Steve Shovlar
Well I finally managed to watch the GP after the wife went ill and I was heading home. Managed to turn around and get back to the stadium before the first race. And what a meeting! After a slow start, racing got better and better, and the climax a fantastic ride by the worlds greatest rider in a wall of death maneovre to take full points. I have read that some think the ref had a stinker. I totally disagree. I think he didn't make a single mistake all night, and applaud him for his consistency. Crump was a joke tonight and had our ggroup in stitches with his desperate antics. Thought he was Nicki Pedersen in disguise at one point! He got what he deserved with three exclusions. The first was the harshest, but the other two were clear cut. Let's be honest. Crumps time as WC is over, and TRick deserves his 6th title. the guy should have won all 4 so far, and even Crump fans have to admit that TRick was robbed of his win in Sweden. Nice to meet so many of the listees and have a chat. Banditsforeva my mate Jason thinks you are a hottie and if you want a date...... shame its the other end of the country! The crowd was the biggest so far, a good 5000 up on last year. Give it a couople more years and we could see a sellout! Some blinding races. Jonsson over TRick, TRick in the final, Norris over Crump, plus many more but I am tired at the mo! To those of you who sat it out, well you missed a real treat. make sure you make the effort next year. Off to bed a very happy chappie! TRICK WORLD CHAMP 2005! Great! Papa Bazarou
Just back - not a bad GP - plenty of re-runs, drama, controversy, and good racing as well. Hats off to Trick - what is he 32 points ahead now ? Start engraving ! This 5 ride format is ideal for him, lets face it Trick to score less than say 8 (cut off point usually) from 5 - it just doesn't happen, so he's going to make semis consistently. Then he has the ability to turn those into final places - If only the final at Eskistuna hadn't have been stopped - then he'd be even further ahead. Silver Bee
Great Night and the track provided some good racing! If only someone had told me Hancock, Pedersen, Adams and floppy weren't going to make the semis I could have won some money. And a big shout to jarek Hampel, fair play to the guy. I don't think the ref did have a really bad meeting, the only 1 he got wrong was the Norris/Rickardsson one. Floppy was on the white line and Rickardsson has tried to swoop across Norris and Norris shouldn't shut off as he wasn't behind at the time. Jason did deserve his exclusions from where I was sat, 3rd 1 the most clear cut one even if he did hit a rut but the other 2 were deserved as well. Nicki Pedersen was up to his usual self with a proper Rammajam on Greg Hancock and I said to Dad before Bjarne's crash exactlly what Nicki would do, and he did! I am not a big Ricardsson fan at all but his ride in the final was stunning, how he didn't come off the bike I'll never know. I thought AJ did well but chose wrongly in the smi, it's extremely difficult to control a race coming off gate 4 and if you miss the start from there you didn't have a hop in hell's chance of making it. Good ride by Floppy to pass Jason as well and Lee Richardson's ride past Nicki Pedersen was top draw, don't see wht generally seems to be wrong with Lee at the moment other than engines but it showed that he can do it when he tries hard enough. I bet Hans Andersen is extremely gutted not to be going home with a silver medal after the hut that Crumpy hit caught him out as well. Nicholls was unlucky but overcoocked it twice in the meeting going into the bends. He was giving 110% as always and was unlucky because the race in prospect between him and Rickardsson was a good one. Greg Hancock rode very well up untill his crash with Mr. Pedersen. Think he must have been out on his spare bike as I imagine his 1st 1 was pretty bent and there was no time to sort out his other one as he was riding in consecutive heats. And just to add, Floppy looked very on the pace tonight but kept choosing the wrong lines and not being anywhere at the 1st corner, would have been very interesting to see what Loram would have done on that track! Was good to meet new people in the Prince of Wales, would maybe have met more if the M50 wasn't shut.
Guest sw7179
Interesting to read that all you lucky lot who were there (not me this year, boo hoo!) thought all of Crumps exckusions were justified. 2 and 3 granted but have a look at the replay again at his first then give me your opinion again, for me it was one of the worst decisions I've seen. Glad you all had a good time though, it's bloody great isnt it. Apart from the British GP the only other one I've been to is in Hamar and that was crap in comparison to the atmosphere in Cardiff. Guest sw7179
Fair enough Silver but apart from you guys in this thread everyone else Ive spoken to is unaminous in their opinion at how bad this decision was. Fair enough that everyone has an opinion but I really felt it would be hard to find anyone agreeing with the ref this time. Hope you had a good time though mate, will you be at Foxhall on Monday? Subedei
I hope it's nothing too serious for Mrs Shovlar and that she's feeling well again very soon.
Steve Shovlar
I hope it's nothing too serious for Mrs Shovlar and that she's feeling well again very soon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well she is OK now but it warranted me missing the meeting, leaving Cardiff at 6.pm through the crowds. At 6.30 she rang to say things had changed and so I turned around just before the motorway and got back in time for the meeting. Trouble was I had sold my ticket to a guy for half the face value, so thanks to Jason for getting me another one from a tout (very cheaply!) The ticket I sold to the guy didn't use the seat, so after 12 heats I moved back to the seat I had orginally purchased! Oh well wifey comes first. I had resigned myself to a drive home whilst the meeting took place, so it was a thrill to get there and see it after all.
Subedei
Okay, my thoughts on the riders individual performances: Adams: Dismal. I thought this new tuner was supposed to be the missing link for the fellow? If anything, he's going backwards. Never looked like doing anything. Andersen: A solid GP for the guy. He'll be happy with making the final. Chrzanowski: Didn't disgrace himself and showed the Brits the way home in his final heat. Crump: Didn't see too much of the champ. He can only have completed 8 laps, but he didn't do much the 2 heats he finished. He's looked out of sorts all season, down on power and only luck and will power keeping him afloat. The luck ran out. Was harshly excluded twice and justifiably once. A disaster for the guy. Gollob: Never looked entirely comfortable and had to rely on the charity of Hampel to make the semis. He was in good positions in several races but lost out as the race progressed. Machinery still looks an issue. But he seemed happy with another appearance in the semis. Took a nasty tumble in his semi. Hope he's okay. Hampel: Did I really say he couldn't handle temporary tracks? I think I did. And Hampel shoved that right back in my face. The guy was superb and fully deserved to be runner-up. You've got to think he could've taken Gollob in their last heat, but those Poles stick together and Hampel shepherded Gollob around to a place in the semis. Hancock: Was unlucky to be suckered into the tapes by Lindback in his 2nd race. But was lucky not to get excluded when Crump went down. Swings and roundabouts I suppose. Still, not a good GP for the fellow, failing to make the semis for the 3rd GP running. Jonsson: A huge improvement on the last 2 GPs. I picked him in the GP competition and all through the night I was hopeful of scoring big. But he let me down in the semis. Still, a good showing from a guy who usually performs well at Cardiff. He still has a long way to go before he's a genuine contender. Lindback: Is it nerves, or is it pressure? Once he gets into a race he's always on the pace, but he always looks likely to charge through the tapes at the starts. And he did charge through them in his 1st heat and suckered Hancock into them in his 2nd heat. Made the semis. He'll be happy with that. Nicholls: A good effort from the guy to make the semis. Norris: Unlucky to be excluded in his 1st outing. He did well enough, but never looked like making the semis. B Pedersen: Where'd he come from? Hardly noticed the guy and then, all of a sudden, he's in the semis and then the final. Kept his head while plenty were losing it and kept his poor GP-good GP sequence going. He'll be hoping to break that sequence with his home GP next. A quiet, unassuming, effective performance from a quiet, unassuming and effective rider. N Pedersen: Another eventful GP from Nicki P - aren't they all? Richardson: A couple of good races from the guy and a couple of poor races. Rickardsson: Was lucky to get away with his 1st heat fall. But after that it was business as usual for TR. He was awesome and looks to have that 6th title in the bag. Sullivan: Withdrew after a couple of races. Clearly struggling after his fall in Poland last weekend. Let's hope the fellow is back to full fitness very soon. avenger
I am not a big Ricardsson fan at all but his ride in the final was stunning, how he didn't come off the bike I'll never know. Yeah, especially as he didn't seem to have any problems coming off it in heat 3! I've seen Roberto Pires make more of an effort to stay upright. Sad to see that kind of behaviour coming in to speedway, and being incentivised by referees.

shaky
The ref was right about Norris/Rickardsson incident there was no room for floppy to get through he took tricks leg away he admitted his self on tv he touched him. That was the best gp ive been to my 8th brit gp and one polish gp in Wroclaw this year. What a great advert for our wonderfull sport long may it continue i hope they dont go to Wembley in the future if things go wrong there they wont have us back at Cardiff and its easy to get to. avenger
The ref was right about Norris/Rickardsson incident there was no room for floppy to get through he took tricks leg away he admitted his self on tv he touched him. He was right on the inside line. Are you saying you want a situation where overtaking is effectively outlawed? Of course he touched him, but there were plenty of other situations with way more contact and no action taken. Rickardsson engineered a favourable situation with his dive and the referee fell for the con.
Subedei
As someone has already mentioned, you only need to look at TR in the final to see how easily he went down when Norris dived under him. Twice TR got into terrible shape in the meeting and kept himself upright. And yet a little nudge from Norris sent him sliding gently to the fence. AndyP
Really enjoyed the day, but was spoilt by the ref making the world championship an anti-climax. Excellent crowd with a superb atmosphere. Biggest crowd yet by far. Nice to see so many Reading fans in attendance for a change, and most wearing Racers colours. Also nice to meet up and chat with Gemini and Pawprint.
