Custom House Kid
Sure he's a great rider, but it might have been a totally different outcome if he'd been (rightly) excluded in his first ride instead of Norris.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I doubt it! Guest sw7179
TR is a class above this year. His speed is phenomenal and he looks all the quicker for the fact that his naib challengers are falling by the wayside. Adams, the Grand Prix hoodoo continiues, Crump, pressure of being Champ maybe, Nikki P, hot and cold as usual. And other pretenders like Hans, AJ et al havent moved forward either. Only injury can stop him and no-one wants that

neil_L
love him or hate you to credit him. He's simply the best. I just can't recall a rider who can go 80-90 % through a meeting and like push a button when it's needed to 100% and take home th bacon. That last race first bend was truely awsome. Adams, Gollob, sullivan, Hancock ... to me they have perhaps had their best yrs and some of "racer" instincts have wained somehat into "grafter" status. Adams especially just seems to look so phased and he just can't raise his game to that required at this level. I only see one GP a yr on TV and last night was an excellent advert for the sport. shaky
King Tony a legend he is incredible if only he won in sweden he would of been the first rider to win four on the trot, that would of been a record but the real record will come end of season when lifts the crown for the 5th time and after that could he beat Maugers record next year it would be like Lance Armstrong winning the tour 6 on the trot could he do it again next month what a athlete. False dawn
Love him or hate him, you can't argue with real class. Trick is the best and he will carry on winning unless the others raise their game. How often does he cruise through the early heats apparently not working that hard? But when it comes to the crunch, having done the work, there's only one race worth winning. If you weren't sure that Tony was working to this principle last night, watch again that first bend in the final. Full out commitment and real joy in victory. He hasn't lost his appetite for winning; some others need to go back to the drawing board. And don't get upset with TR, it ain't his fault he knows how to win. It's like Ole used to say in times past, "The more I win, the more they'll boo me". Of course, Ole had the answer, "The louder you boo, the faster I'll go". shaky
He's already been champ 5 times. He's going for Mauger's record this year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He will equal it this year not beat it how can he break it when some else has has already won it six times if he wins seven champs then he will break it,its just like someone equaling some else's track record they wont beat or break it until they have gone faster. Subedei
but the real record will come end of season when [he] lifts the crown for the 5th time Okay, Shaky, I'll quote only the relevant point of your first post. This'll be his 6th.

alia_kel_aderon
Tony Rickardson is pure class. His final ride was awesome and it was edge of the seat stuff. I think Crump's first exclusion was harsh but the other two were deserved - and I dislike the guy anyway. I'm putting money on Hampel being a future World Champion for definate! I also like the new layout for the GPs. So many times Crump has come third or fourth when it doesn't matter so much and then pulled it out in an elimination heat, when it matters, to come first by a massive margin! This way he can't be lazy throughout the first part of the meeting. He has to score points. I think he hates the fact he has to perform from the off and can't cruise a couple of heats to get used to the track. Wish Scotty made the final. Pity he spun the bike! shazzybird
Having seen Briggo and Mauger in there pomp, have to say Tony is the best rider I have ever had the privilege to watch!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My dad and I had this conversation on the way home this morning, all those years ago when Ivan Mauger was the best thing since sliced bread people inc. us would say "My god they'll never be a rider as good as him, well not in our lifetime anyway" and now we have Tony Rickardsson and others will be saying the same about him. The argument over who is better who is best who is the greatest has been spoken about so many times yet both riders are the best in the world both have different styles of riding yet share the same guts and determination it takes to be World Champion. TRick was out of this world yesterday to ride (hmmmmm can't say boards as times change ) the airfence and stay on!!!!!!! Even my Uncle apparently was riding the airbike up on the 3rd tier at that point.
Subedei
yet share the same guts and determination it takes to be World Champion. And professionalism. Neither Mauger or Rickardsson leaves anything to chance. You can argue this and you can argue that. But they were both great champions and Rickardsson still is. You start to wonder how many more years he has in the tank. And by saying that, I mean that TR can ride on for a good few years yet, if he wants. keepturningleft
Personally, I hope TRick does equal Mauger's record as it could/should generate some decent publicity. I am also becoming more and more convinced that TRick may well be the greatest rider ever. Watched the Swedish GP the night before Cardiff and revelled again in that race when he stormed through from last place to first. I can't remember Ivan Mauger coming from last to first in any race in his entire career let alone in a world championship meeting of this calibre. TRick is the only rider who can raise his game with relentless consistency when it really matters. That compares him with Mauger certainly, but TRick is far more of an all rounder and a true racer. bellevueace
TR is going great this season good luck to him, but if this GP system had been in place when Mauger was at the top of the tree his title successes would have been in double figures, for consistancy Mauger was awesome, dont forget he had to go through lots of difficult one off qualifying rounds in some cases only the top four progresseing to the next round, then come world final night you couldnt afford one slip not the luxury of being world champ without winning a round which is possible now and has been done, remember Mauger having an 11 point plus average for five consecutive years i think it was, cant see that happening again, and look who he was riding against to achieve it, as for never passing anyone i remember at belle vue one time he forgot to turn on his fuel and was passed on the back straight by the three other riders, he turned on the fuel gave chase and won the race, not often from the back i grant you that but he wasnt often at the back to start with, theres his record of league wins with teams he rode for, his long track and WTC succsesses espeacally when riding for GB, TR is a great rider but better than Mauger i dont think so.
