xDx
The difference was Floppy DID touch Trick, albeit not that hard. It was enough to throw Tony off line, he would have got no points anyway so he might as well have laid it down. He's certainly not the first rider to do it and he's deinately not the last.Hans Andersen on the other hand went down of his own accord, Grumpy didn't get within six inches of him, and then to roll around on the track like he did was disgusting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. avenger
I can't really see the distinction that you are trying to make between someone who decides to fall off when they are passed and slightly touched, but not enough to actually cause them to fall off, and someone who decides to fall off when they are passed and not touched. Cheating is cheating, Anderson and Rickardsson both cheated and both were rewarded for it by the referee.
home straight
Rickardsson didn't cheat, at worst it was gamesmanship, Floppy agreed that he hit him and should have been excluded.
pirate paul
Tony had his leg taken, even Norris admitted that much. Yes a rider of Tonys calibre probably could have stayed on, but in that situation any rider has the right to lay it down as far as I am concerned. Andersen is a cheat, end of. He even admitted it when interviewed.
Subedei
but the first two were a case of going down far too easily and what should have been all 4 back. If the 2nd was a case of going down too easily, then the referee was right. After all, it was Crump that went down.

You can dress it up how you like, Rickardsson chose to take a dive. I want to see speedway where riders are racing hard and fairly, I don't want to get to a situation where we have pampered nancy boys lobbing themselves on the floor when they think they can get an advantage, a la football. You are on another planet.
home straight
Nobody is dressing anything up at all, Floppy hit Rickardsson who went down, Floppy was rightly excluded, get over it.
avenger
So you reckon Rickardsson is a nancy boy who doesn't race hard and fair? You are on another planet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm well, on my planet 'I don't want to get to a situation' means that it's not something that's currently the case. YMMV. Rickardsson last night saw a situation where he could gain an advantage by infringing certainly the spirit of the rules. That he was rewarded for doing so sets a worrying precident. It was clear from Anderson's post-race interview that he had noted the referee's decision in that case when deciding to fall off in his heat, I'm sure more and more riders will follow suit in future if the situation is not addressed. Trees
Tony had his leg taken, even Norris admitted that much. I also got the impression in Dave's interview that he wanted to say that he thought Tony didn't need to fall, he resisted well!

alia_kel_aderon
I heard an overwhelming amount of booing for Rickardson too! Then again, I was laughing at Crump the entire evening so maybe I heard wrong! EDITED: Sorry, not the entire evening because he only featured in half of it!!!! Star Lady
Not seen the TV or read the rest of this thread yet but IMO the Ref was appalling, he spoilt the whole evening and has more or less knackered the series for the rest of the year. All refs make bad decisions, but he wasn't even consistent. Arrogant git EDIT now read the rest of the thread and Tony R was roundly booed on the 4th bend with quite a few people making "dive" gestures every time he came round. I personally thought his reception at the end, once he won the meeting was very muted, certainly 50% of the people near me on the 4th bend did not applaud etc. Edited June 12, 2005 by Star Lady
Leg Trailer
The referee was appalling but rumour on the street is that he stepped in at the last minute to replace the original referee who was, lets us just say, excluded from the meet. Shall not elaborate any further as what I heard could be quite libellous if incorrect.
