Ochilltrees

Out of interest I was wondering what happened to the Ochilltrees since departing from Coventry 3 or 4 yrs ago. Wonder if they ever make an appearence at Coventry. Generally they did a very good job in keeping speedway and stocks at the Brandon stadium for so many yrs.

Sorry Hazzman, Leicester was before my time. Generally I thought the Ochilltrees did a good job some things I thought were not done so well. In particular they had an admissions policy of charging 15 yrs full adult price which was crazy. The meeting presentation was 50yrs out of date as well which was pretty embarrasing to younger fans. The new promotion have more exciting ideas and there appears to be more young people through the gates these days.

Perhaps you can tell us what the Ochilltrees did to Leicester for us not so oldies.

The answer's in the fact that Leicester are no longer in existence. I expect the Ochilltrees are enjoying the fortune that Barretts handed them when they sold Blackbird Road for housing. That's one reason why you'll be lucky to see me handing my hard earned cash over to anyone associated with Coventry Speedway.

Do they still use that awful marching music, play the national anthem and does the first aiders still salute whilst it's being played.

You really must pay a visit to Brandon as it is entirely different now. Great music and tunes for all the riders. Disco after the meeting in the downstairs bar. It has improved 100% this season. Stand near a loudspeaker and you can clear your ears and sinuses out for the next 12 months. :D

Coalville greyhound Track can be added to the B*****s list. I am afraid it is not only this company, its just that this particular company has found this area <sports> very lucrative. What it comes down to is the landowner has a choice; Take a comparatively small annual rental income 20/30,000 pounds for his 4/8 acres or take a bulk payment running into millions and live a life of luxury at wherever he chooses to live. The sports concerned have the options to purchase these sites most probably but dont have the cash to compete, what needs to be done is to make these sites multi use, perhaps bring in fitness clubs/Casinos etc on long term leases, bring in say a Mcdonalds/Burger King on long leases, invite a developer to put up an Office block or even an appartment block maybe, in other words play the developers at there own game, but there again you are asking our current "promoters" to run a business when for the most part they cannot even run the sport, just look at how they allowed Benfield to take on the GP,s. Failing that no planning permission should be granted to develop a sports site without a replacement being put in place.
