Travelling From The North Or The Midlands?

Recommended Posts

I went to the Millenium Stadium on Sunday, and on the journey back one of our party noticed a sign saying the M50 will be closed on Sunday (12th June) from 7am - 7pm at junction 2.

Therefore, those stopping over may have to find an alternative route back on Sunday rather than cutting through Monmouth.

I'll check this out on one of the relevant sites, but if anyone else has heard this or lives that way could you confirm whether this is the case or whether this person was mistaken maybe.

Right, seems it might have been partly true as I found this off a government website...

M50 24 hour lane one closure & 40mph speed limit with full closure (M5 J8-J2) daily (07:00-19:00) on 12 & 13 February for carriageway repairs and renewal of roadmarkings.

So by reading that I think it's just one lane closed, so if you had planned to be somewhere on Sunday and you're coming back that way, might be a bit wiser to leave a bit earlier.

Sorry, just noticed that it says February, but the website says that was when the roadworks started and it says they are "on going" with no end date as yet!

The M50 WILL be closed. All you have to do is stick to the M4 and go over the bridge (it's ok, we don't charge you to get out, after all, we want to get rid of you) and then follow the signs for "M5 North(Midlands)". It's Junction 20 once over the bridge. It adds about 5-10 minutes/5-10 miles to the journey time/distance, you eventually pass the point where the M50 joins the M5.

Worst news is that the M50 is closed southbound on Saturday!

From what I can tell, the link you posted says it is closed Eastbound (going away from Cardiff) on the 11th June and Westbound (going towards Cardiff) on the 12th June.

If thats right it should be perfect for travelling to and from the G.P. (although I stand to be corrected).

We came back from Cardiff on Sunday Diesel and noticed the sign saying the road was closed coming back towards the midlands if you like. There was no mention of the road towards Cardiff being closed at all

I agree Diesel, don't get me wrong. But i'm only reporting on what I saw last Sunday.

It only affects the first 2 junctions, so you could always carry on down the m5 to Gloucester and then turn off that onto the a40 along to Ross on Wye and pick up the M50 again there... Or you could just go over the bridge and pay the toll.

I saw last Sunday that the M50 will be closed on 11th towards Cardiff and on the 12th Northbound.

Luckily I'm travelling the day before, but returning early Monday morning from Newport, does anybody know if the M50 will still be closed or have roadworks? Need to assess what time I need to leave as will be at Work in the Midlands on the Monday morning.
