bucket
I believe the final chequered flag fell upon him sometime in the last couple of years. Edited May 26, 2005 by bucket
norbold
Yes, sadly Trevor is no longer with us. He was an excellent rider. Rode for Wembley and Bristol amongst others as well as the teams you mention. He was the first Provincial League Riders' champion in 1960. I saw his attempt to retain the title at Harringay in 1961. With one ride each, both Trevor and Reg Reeves were unbeaten on 12 points. In a race I shall never forget, Trevor shot off in to the lead and led by "miles". Then, on the 4th bend of the 4th lap, his chain came off, leaving Reg Reeves a very lucky winner of the championship. As a New Zealander himself, he was partly responsible for introducing Ronnie Moore and Barry Briggs to this country and to Wimbledon as well as another kiwi, Geoff Mardon, who once finsihed third in the World Championship. Trevor also organised tours of South Africa and helped popularise the sport there. A great character and a great rider.
BriG
Thanks for your posts, sad to hear that he's passed on, sounds a real entertainer. My friend is really interested to know if Trevor has any living relatives in England. If any one has any info we'd be obliged. Regards Brian
Tsunami
Read somewhere that he was pulled up for speeding after living here for years. After the cop had finished, Trevor told he was just a visitor to England and the cop let him off.
Ian
Trevor Redmond - an amazing character. In addition to riding for a number of clubs, TR (as he was known) promoted at Neath, St Austell and Glasgow White City. For the latter two he was actually rider/promoter. Trevor was always good for bizarre interval attractions. I remember him appearing in a Kruschev mask during a Britain-Overseas test at Meadowbank in 1962, I think. After White City reopened in 1964 he and Ian Hoskins used to produce wonderful theatre on the centre green during Monarchs/Tigers matches. Oh for a few more like those two! Got around a bit did Trev!
iris123
Was also involved in the short-lived Wembley Lions return in the 70's wasn't he?
norbold
Yes. It was Trev and Bernard Cottrell who revived the Lions in 1970 and became joint promoters.
oxford duke
His son Lee rode for Sheffield in 2001 I think, but never came back to England after breaking his leg.
