Gp Of Sweden Eskilstuna 14.5. Wild Cards

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I thought the Swedes might be prevailed upon to include Holta for the Scandinavian Grand Prix, but not the Swedish Grand Prix. This seems very strange. Also thought the Poles might be prevailed upon to give an outing to a Czech or Russian or German rider for the European Grand Prix. But I guess not.

In the absence of a Norwegian GP, there would be almost no other opportunity for an experienced GP rider like Holta to gain a wild card berth, so it would be no surprise if there was heavy pressure to include him. Take your point about the Scandinavian GP, but TV interests don't necessarily follow logic, fairness or reason...

Well the Scandinavian and European grands prix seem the ideal situations for the FIM and BSI to take a more active role in selecting the wild card. The Swedes and Poles are already well represented in the series. In my opinion the 4 Scandinavian nations (Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) should submit a nomination to the FIM, with the wild card decided by drawing lots. The same sort of thing could happen with the European grand prix.

It just seems strange that Holta is included in the Swedish grand prix.

Just a thought, but could it be more to do with selling tickets than anything else.Rather like including Barth in last years Czech GP  Have already seen a rumour that a German rider will be included at Lonigo

Not saying i think it will happen, just that this is the sort of scenario that we can look forward to.It isn't about getting the best 16 riders in the world in each GP.Not even about getting the best 16 riders for a particular track but trying to maximise profits and exposure. If they think Holta will help tickets sell better than another Swedish rider then......same goes for every GP.The same could possibly happen at other tracks,if they think the tickets have already sold as well as they might in Italy they could just possibly try and boost sales by announcing a wild card from a neighbouring country. As i said on another thread,in the future i can see Gollob being used in just the same way to boost sales even though he hadn't really deserved a place by his form. Not saying it's right or wrong, just the way i see this closed shop thing working
