Guest Sir Lunchalot
What a strange day !! It's the second month of Autumn and the forecast top temperature was 32 degrees C (you reading this Bryn !!) followed by a cool change sometime in the afternoon. The hot day caused spectator numbers to be down a little and the track to dry out very quickly so in an effort to get all the racing in before the track dried out completely and before any possible weather change the riders were encouraged to be ready on time and the two minute warning siren went on as soon as the riders had all cleared the finish line in the previous race. Very threatening dark clouds moved in towards the end of the meeting and the last three races were shortened to two laps and run in intermittent drizzling rain but we made it !! The poor commentator didn't know if he was coming or going sometimes !! About 20 minutes after the meeting finished the heavens opened for about 20 minutes and that would have put an end to the meeting so it was a "well done" all round. Riding numbers were a little down but there was some of the best racing seen all year, especially in the 1000cc and 250cc sidecar classes. Full credit to the sidecar brigade as they were extremely competitive throughout. Even the junior sidecars got in on the action with the teenagers putting on a brilliant display on the first lap of their first race when both rocketed out the gate side by side. Highlights were the continual swapping of places & passing amongst the 250's every race they took part in and a near dead heat in the 1000's between Russell/Coleby and Davies/Marshall after an enthralling battle for the entire race. In the box one person thought it was Russell just holding on and the other thinking Davies had pinched it with a last minute surge to the finish. Eventually Davies was given the nod by the referee. Not so exciting in the senior solos with the field depleted a little with the Jones boys and Ezergailis over in the UK and no Cory Gathercole so it meant that Tyron Proctor was generally having things his own way but looking quite quick while he was at it. All the same, overall there was lots of passing and close racing so I went home a happy chappy .
