I'm Going To Cardiff!

Recommended Posts

Cardiff is a bit of a shock to the system - SOOO many people and so much noise. Look out for wonderful crazy Polish fans. Life or Death for them and the international fans really boost the whole event.

Cardiff gets swamped with speedway fans and its rowdy in a kind of mums and dads way but very happy and positive.

I think this is cos every one supposrts a cross section of riders - your national reps, riders from your team (past and present) and your personal faves. Makes the crowd very balanced. Poice look very bored and puzzled by the whole thing - no fights!

Will see what I can do about that then :P (thats a joke before anyone says anything)

Being serious again, what is the parking situation as I will be driving? How early do I need to get there to be able to get parked?

You / LT found a good spot the other year Steve ...

They certainly did :approve: either side of me

Yes I remember that

Someone let you down with a ticket at the last minute - but luckily you had a good friend :) .

Gem, Joanne, & I were sitting infront of FD, Steve Turner & Phil ....

who had their own unique way of ensuring we kept refreshed throughout the meeting

We're going Cardiif Bay in the morning this year and then into Cardiff at about 2pm, get tickets and then chill. Then the main event!

To answer the parking question there is plenty of parking on the University ground about 5 minutes outside Cardiff. As long as you get there before 3.30pm, you will have plenty of time.

Looking forward to my 4th cardiff GP,although driving i have no parking worries, booked into guest house in nearby rumney! (£1 and less than 10 mins on the bus to cardiff centre !),that way we can also enjoy the post meeting entertainment too!,and break up the journey home,by stopping off at newport of course!,a weekend to remember and look forward to,cheap too really B&B for £20,so much better without the dreaded drive home after a long day,as we found out last year-roll on june 11,and COME ON GREG!!!!

The Poles are great, have a chat with them, even if you speak no Polish and they speak no English, everyone in Cardiff that day understand GOLLOB CHAMPION :D Sadly they didn't understand "Kujawa crap" until they realised who Iw as refering to and taught me to say Kujawa the proper way. They were sat in front of us in the stadium and we had a good laugh with them thanks to some international sign language and pointing at programmes :D

If you talk to the police and the stadium stewards they are confussed, they love GP weekend too as it a party/carnival atmosphere with all speedway fans being "one" rather than British, Polish, Swede, Newport fans, Swindon fans, Edinburgh fans etc.

Just park on the opposite side of the city centre from the stadium, we managed to park in there at about 3.30 a few years back, plenty of spaces. As other have said, the university or even down the road and get a bus. I know some people park in Newport (2 car parks opposite the station) and get the train down to Cardiff. The train back to Newport is also buzzing as it's full of speedway fans.

Get into Cardiff before lunch time if you can and you'll have no problem parking. I'd still advise parking the other side of the city centre, means a 10-20 minute walk (20 minutes if you have someone who walks at my mum pace) after the meeting but atleast you won't get stuck in as much traffic getting out of the car park and then Cardiff itself. Also worth trying to avoid the motorway too, it tends to get clogged up going towards Newpor but if you're not a local it's probably safer to stick to the motorway.

Just ordered my tickets for the Gp this year (my first ever time)and i Cant wait :) After saying that I was going to go up by myself my fiancee anounced that she would also like to go aswell as she really enjoyed her one trip to see the trelawny tigers before they stopped racing.Im amazed as i didnt think she was that into the speedway after only one meeting. Also means it wont be such a boring drive up from Cornwall as i Wont be on my own,Also thanks for putting the places to park on here it will be quite helpfull.See you all there :D
