Footage of the meeting is on the History of speedway video (the boom years), dont forget George also had an interest at the Tamworth Hounds speedway club, some breif details of this are available on the Tamworth page on the Brummies website :)

Many moons ago it was said that George whilst in the Tyneside area, went down to Whitley Bay, which was a sppedway venue then, and did a few circuits. The exact site of the speedway track, which is still visible in parts, is at the Rockliffe Rugby Union Club ground.

The Video was produced by Action Video Services and was marketed by the Speedway Star Video section .....,Contact them.

The History of Speedway was a good series.

Formby, like Vera Lynn, did a lot of traveling in WW2 to entertain the troops. As a kid I remember his song "Leaning on the lamppost"

The pendant in me won't let that one go. It was Leaning on a Lamp-post. Whoops, I'm showing my age.

I know. I'll get my coat. :D

Glad you are a pendant and not a pedant !!! Unless you are pending of course :)

You could have ended that with "touché, I think".
