Conkers
I need to know who was the youngest World Champion in either Speedway or Longtrack/ Grasstrack. I know Craven and Collins were both 22 when they won the Individual World Championship, but has anyone ever won it aged 20 or younger? I don't include the U-21 Championships for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance - this info is quite urgently required.
Guest Steve Dixon
Was Ronnie Moore 20 when he won in 1959?
norbold
I think you mean 1954. He was 21.

Guest Jim Blanchard
Peter Craven was born on the 21st June 1934 and he won the title at Wembley on the 15th of September 1955. So that makes him 21 also, not 22. So he and Ronnie were both 21 not sure of the months difference for the two. But how old was Mike Lee when he won it though? Edit: According to the author of Peter Craven; "The wizard of balance" Brian Burford, when Craven won it in 1955 he became the youngest then by a few months over Ronnie Moore's win in 1954. Conkers
Speedway used to hold the youngest and Oldest World Champions in any form of Track Sport (Speedway, Grass Track, Long Track, Ice Racing), but in 1995 and 2002 Per-Olof Serenius won the Ice Racing World Title. The first time he was 47 beating Ivan Mauger, then in 2002 he became the oldest by winning it again, aged 54. This weekend, if Nikolai Krasnikov wins the Ice Racing title in Berlin, he will take the youngest World Champion title as he is only 20 and won't be 21 for another few months. I just needed to confirm who was the youngest in case he wins, so I can write the First line of my report, "Nikolai Krasnikov rode into the record books as the Youngest World Champion, aged 20....." - Just watch, Ivan Ivanov will go and win now
Guest Jim Blanchard
I think its Peter Craven a few months younger than Ronnie Moore Ian. Mike Lee was 22 it seems.
Trees
Mike Lee was 22 it seems. Nah he would have been 22 in the December. He was summat like 21 and 268 days
Guest Jim Blanchard
Nah he would have been 22 in the December. He was summat like 21 and 268 days I am not very good at maths but I would have said Mike Lee was nearer 22 than 21 lol. Pete Craven was 21 and about 86 days. mikowhy
What about the youngest rider who get on the rostrum? I think it would be Eddie Jancarz in 1968 - he was 19 as I remember
Guest Steve Dixon
Michael Lee in 1977,would have been about 18?? Ok he didn't finish in the top 3 but was pictured on the rostrum as fourth for some reason...........
mikowhy
Let's add the youngest finalist ever. Did anyone get to the great final being 16 years old? I think it wolud happen only in the one of very early finals because later young lad, beginning his career at the age of 16 - first must get to a first string of his national team - it would take him at least one year.Than in the next year he could have a chance to get to the final. Stop. Not now . Now BSI deicides. No chance of seeing young tallented riders in prospective now Edited March 19, 2005 by mikowhy
