Denmark/Slovenia GPs

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice on the above GPs. I want to go to one of them this year, but not sure which. Can I get some advice on the following:

* How to get to both (cheaply)

* Which is the better GP?

* Where is a good place to stay for either?

I know you won't let me down

:D

Hi falcace !

I can't comment on danish GP as I've never been there, but I would strongly recommend you Slovenian GP in Krsko !!! It's always a great meeting with excellent racing and a lot of entertainment on and off the track.

For answers on all of your questions, please visit Slovenian speedway forum where I collected a lof of useful links and other information.

Getting to and around Slovenia :

Once again - come to Krsko for a great night of speedway racing. You won't regret it !!!

I've not been to Krsko (hopefully one day I will - normally good racing) but have been to Copenhagen.

Lots of different airlines go to Copenhagen, BA, SAS from Heathrow, Easyjet from Stansted and then you can throw in Ryanair which flies Stansted to Malmo in Sweden, but it's only a short trip across to Copenhagen. Skyscanner is an excellent site for checking the budget airlines, particularly if you consider going to the north of Italy to get to Slovenia. Easyjet fly direct to Ljublijana from Stansted.

For hotels we used Ibis, of which there are plenty in Copenhagen. Reasonably priced.

As for which one to go to, for racing I'd plump for Krsko, Copenhagen is a wonderful ( :P ) city, with everything you'd expect from a major capital city and the tourism that it brings in. I guess it depends on what you want from your trip. I'd imagine the beer is about 4 times the price of that in Krsko if that makes any difference.

Rico

Think you can normally include another meeting in Denmark if you stay a bit longer than the weekend, which is what i hope to do.Also guess it's not too bad to be situated in Copenhagen if the GP is rained off :o Whereas what are you going to do in Krsko(Tomaz might know the answer).Hope it doesn't happen to either,of course

To be honest I have no idea what to do in Krsko, because I only come to town when there's speedway meeting. Maybe sunnygirl can help us here.

But you have nothing to worry about - slovenian GP will definitely not be rained off. First of all there's not a lot of rain in Slovenia in May and second of all in the last few years we were quite lucky as far as weather goes and the last time the meeting was rained off was in 2002 (I think).

To Rico : you're absolutely right about the beer. If you buy it in a petrol station (close to the stadium) it would only cost you around 0.7 Euros.

Tomaz,do you mean 70 cents for a beer? Can get it cheaper here in Germany in Aldi or one of the other supermarkets.

If so you want to get up here for a meeting and some German beer :D

I've been to Copenhagen but not to Slovenia. The Copenhagen GP can't be rained off because there is a roof. I used Easyjet and www.totalstay.com for accommodation. Best place to stay is near Tivoli but watch out for the red light district.

I suppose the racing would be better in Slovenia though and the scenery is supposed to be lovely there.

Nah, there's nothing better than good old slovenian beer.  :D

I must say, though, that German beer is not so bad either. At least from what I remember when I was in Berlin a couple of weeks ago.

Must be one of Slovenia's best kept secrets ;) As it goes i've only tasted Yugoslavian beer so wouldn't know

Great cafe bars down by the river in Llubjiana. Large beer and a small beer for less than £2. Good stuff too, similar to Polish beer. :P

As for the speedway, the Krsko track is probably the best track on the G.P circuit. Hyde road re-planted in Slovenia.

Hey Pugwash - you were in Ljubljana and you haven't contacted me !?!?!?!?!?!? You should be ashamed of yourself, mate !!!

Beer is usually well below £2. In those kind of bars large beer usually costs around £1, especially if you taste Slovenian brands (Union or Lasko - Union is much better of course :D ).

Tomaz.

Bar "Macek" by the river. Will be there again friday night before the G.P, drinking Union beer. Hope to see you there.

Cheers, Pugwash.

Ok Pugwash, I'll come to Macek on Friday night. Not sure about the time though, as we'll be in Krsko in the afternoon to see the GP practice and I don't know when will we be coming back to Ljubljana. But I'll definitely come to the bar to have a couple of beers with you. :)

Slight change of plan. I'm now staying in Slovenia for a few extra days but up at Mirabor (Hotel Orel), never been to Mirabor before, it seems pretty scenic. Will catch up with you at practice on friday though.

Great to hear that you're coming to Slovenia falcace.  :D :D  :D  Maybe we can arrange to meet somewhere in Krsko (or anywhere else in Slovenia) ?

Sounds good Tomasz. I'll be staying in Llubjiana, could meet for a beer or two in Krsko though. :D Maybe we'll have a Falcon to support as well. B)

That's great. I actually live in Ljubljana, so it would be easier for us to meet here. Where exactly are you staying ?

I'm meeting another forum member on friday night in "Macek" bar by Ljubljanica river, so maybe you can come there ?
