Guest Aussie Dirtdingo Throttlejockey
Does anyone know the full rider lineup for Mildura meeting this Saturday night where Jason is racing. Perhaps Craig might know from Jane Collier or Brendon Gledhill if possible or perhaps Brynner might know something when he gets down there.........over to you!!!........cheers Anthony <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In answer to my own question: PRESS RELEASE CRUMP TO RIDE AT MILDURA Jason Crump, 2004 World Speedway Champion, is set to race at his original “home†track at Olympic Park, Mildura this Saturday night. Crump is returning to Mildura where he will race against some other Mildura grown talent including his “Belle Vue Aces†team mate, Jason Lyons, Oxford’s Travis McGowan, Exeter’s Mark Lemon and Edinburgh Monarch, Cameron Woodward, all riders being still home based at Olympic Park. Crump has asked to ride at Mildura in recognition of Mildura being the track where his career started. The Crump family has had a very long association with Olympic Park with both Jason and his father Phil, riding, with Phil being the rider who put Mildura and it’s speedway on the International map as well as Jason’s grandfather, Bob, who is still involved at every speedway meeting conducted by the Club as he controls the track entry gate, affectionately known as the “Bob Crump†gate. Bob has been involved since Phil started racing at Mildura more than 35 years ago and with great pride, will open the gate for his “World Champion Grandson†to race on Saturday night. The Olympic Park program will revert to the more traditional format this weekend when we conduct the “Superstars of World Speedwayâ€, with the five riders listed above as the premier division, with a separate and solid grade of solo racing as the support events as well as a strong division of Sidecars from Mildura, Broken Hill and Shepparton to add to the excitement. Mildura’s speedway fans have been elated since Crump took the World Championship for the first time at the Grand Prix of Norway late last year. Crump had been second in the World in each of the three previous Grands Prix seasons but broke through with some powerful performances over the nine Grands Prix of 2004. Crump was first on two occasions and finished second three times to accumulate the top points for the year. Jason Crump is the first Australian to win the Individual World Speedway Championship since Jack Young won consecutively in 1951 and 1952. Crump has been the rider to finally break through to win the World’s major event after Australians have dominated the minor placings for some years and have had great team success in World Team Cup events over recent years. It has been Jason’s grit and focus which has finally allowed him to win, supported by a great team, which includes his father, Phil, as one of the key members. Jason has asked that he be able to pass on some of the skills which he has learned over his years of racing to the Junior members of the Mildura Club when he will conduct a “Coaching clinic†for the young riders on Friday night 14th January at 6:00pm. Jason, in a magnificent gesture has asked that the Mildura Club make a donation to it’s Junior division equal to what it would pay him to ride at the Saturday meeting. Mildura Club is delighted to accept Jason’s generous offer, on both accounts and congratulates him for recognizing that the Junior track at Olympic Park was where he commenced his career and where he was assisted by many Club volunteers in providing the facilities and coaching which gave him his opportunity. Prior to the Evening Coaching session, Jason will also have his time taken as he is recognized by the Mayor, Councillors and citizens of Mildura Rural City Council when the Council will host a “Civic Reception†in Jason’s honour at the Mildura Motor Cycle Clubrooms late on Friday afternoon. The Club and Jason’s family are delighted at the civic honour, as it is the second time the Crump’s have been feted this way. Mildura Shire and Mildura City jointly hosted a civic reception for Phil on the occasion of his “Testimonial “ meeting in February 1990. Jason’s Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Nephews and nieces along with the President, Committee and Members of Mildura Motor Cycle Club as well as Jason’s Ma nager, Neil Bird and traveling companions will be the guests of the Council at the reception. The reception is a further demonstration of the importance of speedway as a key “Sunraysia†sport and the status with which the Council give the Mildura Club and the sport as speedway continues to flourish at the riverside venue, bringing large and significant meetings and many visitors to Mildura each year. Jason will fly out of Australia on 18th January and is delighted that Mildura Club was able to re-schedule some meetings to allow him to ride and coach as his way of saying thank-you to speedway riders and fans in Mildura and to join him in celebrating his success. A large crowd is expected to be at Olympic Park for the historic occasion, with patrons keen to see Jason’s preparation, focus and riding ability at first hand. Fans at Mildura will get a great chance to watch Crump in the top grade of racing as well as having the opportunity to talk with him before and after the meeting. Jason will have his full kit of “World Number 1†memorabilia exclusively at Mildura and will take time for autograph sessions for Olympic Park patrons. Gates will open at Olympic Park at 5:00pm with Practice from 6:00pm. Junior racing will commence at 7:00pm with Seniors to follow at 8:00pm. Olympic Park, straight out Eleventh Street West. Olympic Park provides a Full Catering service and advises that there can be NO BYO by law. ends…………… for further information contact Brendon Gledhill Event Director MMCC
