Brian L
Most us of have probably seen a double-header meeting, but what about a home and away meeting against the same team in the same day. On Good Friday 1978 I saw two fantastic meetings between GBL champs White City and a new-look Hackney side. The first meeting was at White City at 3pm in which White City scraped home 40-38, them I shot off home to have some grub before going to Hackney for the second match at 8pm, Hackney narrowly winning by 39-36. Both matches were not Cup matches, but British League clashes! The unusual scoreline at Hackney resulted from a 0-3 final heat in which Gordon Kennett fell, Finn Thomsen was lapped and Barry Thomas was excluded (silencer?). I have 2 questions on this thread: i) has anyone else seen another home and away clash in the same day other than this one? ii) has anyone seen a heat that ended in 0-0 in which all 4 riders started the race? Midnight_Lady
i) has anyone else seen another home and away clash in the same day other than this one? When the fours rounds used to be on the go the Sunday meeting was first at Glasgow then a fast drive down the road for riders and fans for the evening meeting. Many memories of brilliant fours weekends Sadly missed
iris123
Think it was quite a regular thing on Bank Holidays.Don't want to go through my programme collection to see how many times but remember the Dons meeting Oxford home and away in 75.Lost 34-44 in the afternoon.Dag Lovaas getting a 15 point max. Then later won 42-35.Tommy Jansson getting a max and Briggo getting 11,being beaten only by Dag.Oh ,and the last heat was a 5-0 to the Dons Edited January 13, 2005 by iris123

norbold
Like iris, I can't recall how many specific examples, but I remember seeing home and away Hackney/West Ham Bank Holiday clashes back in the 60s. Gemini
i) has anyone else seen another home and away clash in the same day other than this one? Coventry & Peterborough often had Easter Monday meetings against each other. Around 11.30 am at The Showground and then 7.30pm at Brandon. I suppose that won't happen any more though as it will no doubt be Greyhound Racing at Coventry. ii) has anyone seen a heat that ended in 0-0 in which all 4 riders started the race? Now don't ask me any other details - like when it happened - I just know it did because I was there. One by one the riders got excluded by referee Geoff Dalby, at Brandon, until just Rick Miller was left to ride on his own. Rick decided to pop a few wheelies and was promptly excluded for "not making a bona-fide attempt to race." So 0 - 0 all round. Grachan
Swindon 29 - 49 Cradley in the evening (Crump 15max for Swindon!!) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I remember that. It was great. The way we celebrated Crumpie's maximum you would have thought Swindon had won.
Shalewhale
Ipswich vs Peterborough - Good Friday 2003. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hehehe - I remember that one well! The one I don't want to remember is 2004's Panthers - Bees/Bees - Panthers debacle, which I think was on Easter Monday?. I knew I should have gone to Rye House in the evening instead. Oh wells. Tigerblade
I have done Glasgow (Shawfield) v Newcastle in the afternoon, and the return at Brough Park at 7.30 in the evening. Think it was 1993. I also went to the 1988 World Pairs at Bradford, afternoon start, and then straight to Sheffield for a 7.30 start, that was on a Sunday night. 0 - 0 races, not seen one myself, but didn't that happen at White City, when all four riders in Heat 1 were excluded for 2 minutes, and then the ref subsequently put the 4 reserves on 2 minutes as well and excluded them? Graham
I've done 4 meetings in two days before: May 24 1998 Glasgow v Newcastle May 24 1998 Newcastle 4TT May 25 1998 Stoke v Glasgow May 25 1998 Wolverhampton v Oxford I'd love to see those Glasgow/Newcastle home-and-away meetings brought back, if only to save myself a half days annual leave. Guest cheetahhawk
Did lots of two in one day meetings back in the 70's can't remember any details though but most would have involved Hackneyand Rayleigh and I think one may have been an Eastbourne in the afternoon then Canterbury at night. Also done at least two lots of three meetings in one day. The only one I can really remember was in 1979 when Hackney rode at Reading at 11.00am and then White City at 3pm and back to Wimbledon for the Internationale at 7.30pm. I remember I didn't get to see much of the racing as I was trying to pacify Scorpio as he was only a few months old at the time and didn't like speedway as much as his mad parents did in those days.
