Bryn
The SSRAV staged their latest meeting at Broadford last Sunday and there was a full days racing involving no less than seven categories ranging from junior sidecars to vintage solos and sidecars to the main solo event. And all those classes were preceeded by a full programme of junior racing on the well appointed junior circuit. But the main event of the day, the senior 500cc solos saw Mildura-based Ashley Jones head the 13 man field by dropping just one point from his four rides. Ash is very much hoping for a second crack at racing in the UK in the not-too-distant future and certainly his current form would suggest that he is worth gambling on. His dropped point came in his third ride when he lifted at the start and, whilst he managed to weave his way through to second place, he simply could not catch race leader Jason Stewart. Stewart claimed the runners up spot with a total of 10 points, being beaten by Karlis Ezergailis in his first ride and Ash Jones in his third. Ezergailis and Matt Jones tied for third place on nine points apiece. The race of the day was undoubtedly heat 6 when Ezergailis led briefly only to be challenged by Stewart exiting the second bend and as the two moved wide as they battled for supremacy, meeting winner Jones took full advantage by nipping inside the pair of them to take the lead and, ultimately, the three points for the win. Scorers (four rides each): Ashley Jones 11 Jason Stewart 10 Karlis Ezergailis 9 Matt Jones 9 Corey Dore 8 Tyron Procter 8 Reece Farr 6 Quintin Byrne 5 Paul Bogdanowicz 3 Sam Dore 2 Matt Windsor 2 Aaron Evans 2 Travis Fenton 1 There was much interest in the Classic sidecar class especially with three 1000cc Vincent outfits on show. Former Aussie Champ Ken Walker set the crowd alight when he brought out his 1000cc supercharged Vincent outfit for four laps after the official business had been concluded - wow the roar from the straight through exhaust was something else believe me!
