air polonia

Recommended Posts

For those who may have taken the gamble on cheapo seats to POLSKI for the GP events...sorry but AIR POLONIA has gone WHIZZO..BUST..BANG

In my opinion this is the 2nd of many this year...so be very, very careful

Some of the stories we get of hotels losing payments, double bookings, excess payments etc..from those who have quite rightly exercised their use of the "net"...just be careful...you are not covered.

We pay a lot if money for protection of your money...it is money wel invested in my opinion

Any problems you can always ring JAMEs EASTER (01473) 217838l

Mr spiegal

There should be a cull among airlines - the over-capacity is ridiculous but hard-headed governments have a tendancy to go all dewy-eyed where airlines are concerned. I think the first bankruptcy this year was an Italian low-cost airline and I understand the Italian government are considering a rescue operation. It remains to be seen whether the Polish government will do likewise.

Personally, I always fly on national carriers - Czech Airlines offer a great service from Edinburgh to Prague.

For one who takes an interest in aviation and a frequent flyer through work (UK domestic) , it does not surprise me. - 3 low cost operators Wizz, SkyEurope and Airpolonia.com all competing - its cut-throat and an airline operating with just 3 big aircraft will have to be smart to survive.

We did try airpolonia.com this year for the Bydgoszcz GP, and whilst the loadings were good - full in fact no doubt swelled by the many Speedway fans, the service was prompt so you couldn't fault it there.

One thing to note was that whilst Airpolonia.com had 2 relatively smart looking 737-400's with nice colours and interior as depicted on their web site, they were also operating a 3rd plane - all white apart from the wording, a 737-300.

It is this aircraft that we had the pleasure of flying out and back on to Poznan for the GP, but to be honest it was knackered inside. - I mean rubber type mats under the seats and black gaffa tape bound around each armrest to cover the old ashtrays, not to mention the yellowish interior panelling - it was shabby. SP-KPL for all you plane cranks out there. I know that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but . . . .

A bit of research on the web has shown that it is in fact an old aircraft ex-United Airlines (USA - shuttle service) who had the aircraft for 14 years - now leased through a leasing company. During its life with UA it has no doubt performed many rotations - hence the airframe was probably nearing its life, thus they off-loaded it.

Then there is the approach and landings  which many have reported about on here, they will live on in our memories !

Still it looks like Ryanair and Easyjet are spreading their wings into Poland now, so at least they have (apart from a few older birds) a relatively new fleet.

Air Polonia may have gone bust at the end of last year but a new airline called Centralwings started flights from Gatwick to Warsaw (and Cracow) this week. This new airline is owned by the Polish national airline, LOT, so it is likely to remain in business a bit longer than Air Polonia! The flights are operated in conjunction with the German airline Germanwings and fares start at under £8 plus taxes one way.

Sounds like another interesting option for those living in the South of England who want to travel to Poland this summer. The website is at www20.centralwings.com

Also you can save on the taxes, if you're prepared to parachute out over Warsaw.

This could be a good option if you're staying at a skyscraper hotel such as the Marriot. With a bit of nifty parachute handling you can land directly on the hotel roof and save more money on the "gangster" taxi fare from the airport. :)
