sjw ministerofport
Have booked our flight to Wroclaw, and after the help of forum members making our first visit to Poland last year very easy, i just wondered which was the best place to stay in the city. Thanks already for the help with the cheap flight info.
pugwash
Just booked flights for Mrs Pugwash and myself, (Ryanair) Newquay-Stansted-Wroclaw £90 return each, inc taxes etc. Total journey time 5 hours 25 mins, incredible. Have stayed at Hotel Radisson and Hotel H.P Park Plaza previously both first class. IMO Park Plaza the better of the two, but this time round I'm going to try the Art Hotel which is just off the main square. Park Plaza, the Art & City Hotel Bydgoszcz are all part of Polish Prestige Hotels, (www.pph.com.pl) play your cards right and you can get 20 % discount. Wroclaw is a brilliant city, totally different from industrial Bydgoszcz and your'e sure to have a great time no matter where you stay. Hope to see you there. sjw ministerofport
thanks for the info pugwash. We are travelling on 27/4 from Stansted and returning on the 1/5 the flight cost us £45 each thanks to Ricos helpfull info. Do you know whether the stadium is far from the city centre, the reason i ask is because my wife has had a knee replacement and distance at the moment counts in our plans. We will look at the art hotel pricing and availability and may book there, being a sea going man by your signature i'm guessing i will buy you a rum for your help. Rico
The Stadium is around 15/20 minutes out from the town centre by tram, but I'd point out that once you get to the perimeter of the stadium it's still a 5 minute walk to the stadium. I'm not sure if you got a taxi from town (unlikely to cost more than £5) if they'd be allowed to take you farther in to the complex. I'd also point out the ticket collection point is near enough opposite the tram stop.  As for hotels I've stayed at the Radisson SAS and the Mercure Panorama, both within 10 minute easy walk of the main square and shouldn't cost any more than £60 and £45 respectively per room per night.  Heartily recommend Wroclaw as a city, has a lovely main square and lots of things to do and see during the day and an excellent nightlife as well.  Rico
Lucky Star
I stayed at the Orbis Wroclaw Hotel this year and can recommend both this hotel and the city in general. It is a very modern hotel and the views of the city centre from one side of the hotel are awesome. They also do a very good breakfast. Tram no. 17 stops just outside the hotel and runs direct to the Olympic Stadium on the other side of the city. The hotel is handy for the main railway station but it is a 10/15 minute walk to the main square. Â I booked through www.hrs.de which I use for most of my hotel bookings all over Europe. They do online bookings with instant confirmation and unless you plan to arrive after 6pm you do not even need to give your credit card details in advance. Be warned though that most places in Poland only accept the new PIN - type credit cards - they will not accept those with the old magnetic strip on the back. Paragon
We always stay at the Novotel in the south of the city, there is a tram stop about 10 minutes walk away & it goes straight to the stadium. For the Under 21 final last year we booked it 2 days before the date of the meeting & paid £22 for a double room including breakfast on WWW.ACCOR.COM. We paid about £26 for the weekend of the GP last year on the down side we had the room next to Chris Van Stratton so you can't have it all
sjw ministerofport
Thanks again all for your help. We are going to try and go to three or four GPs next year and its good to know that we can get help from the forum members with our travel plans. Joanne
Booked my flight with Ryan Air. Phoned them up this morning and they said I had booked twice. Cancelled the second one  Lucky Star  Was that the Motel or Hotel you stayed in and was there plenty of restaurants etc around there? Lucky Star
Joanne, I stayed in the Orbis Wroclaw Hotel (sorry I didn't realize that Orbis also had a motel in Wroclaw) - the address is: ul. Powstancow Slaskich 7. There are several small restaurants, including a pizza place, under the railway arches which are about 500 metres from the hotel but I can't tell you if they are any good or not as I didn't eat in any of them myself. There are other restaurants on the main road between the hotel and the city centre but the best value food seems to be in the university quarter just the on other side of the city centre. As one would expect the most expensive place to eat is in and around the main square.
Joanne
Thanks Lucky Star. Might just go for that one. Sounds a bit like Prague with their square being expensive or did I have just have my tourist head on (eh Rico )
Gemini
. Cancelled the second one ... You really know how to hurt someone don't you? Pawprint was getting all excited thinking she was at last going away with you again. She can't understand why she's never been asked again following the Aussie trip. I've told her it was probably that little incident with the Dingo that's put you off.
Joanne
Yes but Pawprint would have had to have my name on her passport. She'll be OK in my breathable bag
pugwash
Think that you will find Wroclaw is a lot less expensive than touristy Prague. Expect to pay about £7 for a meal for 2 people (inc 2 small beers) in any of the cafes around the main square. Price also includes free entertainment as the square is full of mime artists, musicians, jugglers, acrobats and unfortunately the inevitable beggar. Also it's a relatively crime free city compered with Prague, Warsaw etc.
Hazzman
Is is easy to get tickets for Wroclaw on the day Or better paying in advance?
Paragon
If you want Grandstand seats you have to get in as early as possible, the Grandstand has an awfull gantry suspended from the roof and if you are too far back you can't see some of the track
f-s-p
We stayed at the Europejski near the train station. Double room for 3 nights was around 90€, with good breakfast. Like the Krystal in Prague, Europejski is a relic from the 70's, but for the occasional speedway traveller who's more interested in the "after speedway" then the wallpapers in the room its the perfect place for the 4 hrs of sleep every night. Also practicly all the trams stop 100m from the hotel entrance and the main square is on a walking distance.  Tip for anyone whos interested, check out "Jahrhundert-halle" in Wroclaw, and the park area surrounding it. They are a couple of miles southeast from the stadium, amazing site. No big surprise that we found it while trying to get to the stadium. I wont admit that we were lost... Joanne
I'm staying in the Best Western Prima after changing my mind at the last minute Not bad really £170 for 3 nights, that is with the flight included and Queen Bed (more room for Pawprint )  I'll be checking out Wroclaw for the World Cup in the summer
Hazzman
Few questions  Is it easy to get standing tickets on the day?  How much did it cost you for the weekend in Wroclaw? Could I have responses off people who DIY made there way there and possibly who drive there. And who did use a tour company, how much was it and what company you travel with?
