Trees
Now that Crumpy has "got the monkey off his back" as Kelv put it, how can Leigh emulate his achievement? If Leigh doesn't win the World Championship before the end of his career it will be a sacrilege. I think he needs someone to rile him up before every race, perhaps his sponsors should pay for someone to go to every GP, stand by the pits and give him major grief He's got everything else in place but that damned bit of ruthlessness. Rickardsson showed in the final at Hamar how ruthless you need to be sometimes to achieve what you want, cutting Leigh up in the process of course!! Bandits4eva
I think Leigh Adams is gonna be one of the best riders never to win a world title meself... he just doesn't seem to have the aggression in my eyes... would love to see him do it as he is just a rider that oozes class but truthfully i cant see it
Rico
I thought Leigh showed a hell of a lot of determination in his semi-final on Saturday and was clearly pumped up to get third place overall. Sadly, as has been mentioned, he was given no chance in the final by tRick. Remarkable stat that Leigh was the only rider who made all 9 semi-finals in 2004 (next best Crump and Nicki P on 8), however he only made 3 finals from that. Gate draws appear to have been another (perhaps psychological) barrier for him. We'll have to see what they've got planned for next years semi-finals but I reckon it will be down to the luck of the draw again, just a hunch. SCB
I think next years format will fall into the hands of Leigh and TRick. Personally i expect them 2 to be battling it out. I don't think Crumpy is the kind of guy to care about the format so he'll be up there too. My tip for the top 3 next season is Crump, Adams, Trick. That said, someone has just said getting to semi-finals is not his problem, it's getting into the final where he has a problem and that won't change. If Nicki rode in 8 semis, how many finals did he ride in? 1 or 2? At least Leigh and Nicki can claim to be the two most consistent riders, after the Dryml brothers! fatface
I don't think it will be sacrilege if Leigh Adams doesn't win it at all. I simply don't think he has ever proved himself to be the best on the world's biggest stage. Yes, he is great in league racing and is always the first name in my fantasy team, but at World Championship level the likes of Rickardsson, Crump, Hancock, Hamill have consistently bettered him. Speedway history is littered with riders who logged up 10-point plus averages in league racing year after year but could never quite be the best of the best when it really mattered - Kelvin Tatum, Chris Morton, Jan Andersson, Bobby Schwartz, Nigel Boocock to name just a few. Sorry, but for me it looks like Leigh will join that list. Edited October 5, 2004 by falcace

Trees
Hamill have consistently bettered him Jeez that'll wind him up for sure. I 100% would NEVER EVER EVER put Hamill in the same category as Leigh. Yes, Hamill HAS got that ruthless streak that Leigh hasn't but apart from that NO competition!! Oh gord the embarrasment, if that don't wind him up nothing will

Until we know exctly hows it's done we can only guess. I'm just assuming it's being done the same was as the GP qualifiers and the U21 Championship. Jive
I 100% would NEVER EVER EVER put Hamill in the same category as Leigh. Course you can't Hamill is one above him having been Individual World Champion
Trees
Humph!!! Born lucky Hamill is the only rider I have seen deliberately knock Leigh off, what a horrible little man!! As for their FIM medals Billy - 1996 World Champion, 1998 World Team Champion, 2nd - World Championship (1997,2000) If that is correct that means he has 4 FIM medals Leigh - 1999, 2001, 2002 World Cup Champion, Under 21 World Champion 1992 So that's four each unless anyone knows different? Perhaps Billy's 2nd places shouldn't count, that means 4 to Leigh and only 2 to Billy and therefore Billy must be only half as good as Leigh ............. great reasoning eh Edited October 5, 2004 by Trees

Furthermore, we can also conveniently overlook Billy's part in USA World Team Cup wins in 90, 92, 93. I don't want to diss our Aussie friend, he's a smashing rider. But on the international stage Billy Hamill's successes are way, way above those of Leigh Adams - and that's a fact. Rico <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As you probably remember, last year Crump & co were always saying that in the long run the draw will make justice, no complaints. This year the s#¤t has landed on tRick, and like the business with the airfence after Wroclaw, tRick has made his opinions heard, and the draw of gates will disappear. Next year the rider will get his rewards of riding well in the prelis. Now this is a reliable source, but then again Rune Holta himself told me after Bydgoz that his season is over, and went on to win the Swedish league a week after... Grachan
No doubt about it, Leigh Adams is a quality rider and has been the best in the EL this year. He's shown he can do it at GP level too, with some GP wins under his belt. There just seems to be something missing when it comes to making the final step to becoming World Champion. For the last few years there has been a feeling that Jason Crump was a World Champion in waiting, but I just don't get that with Leigh. There is no doubt that he is good enough to be World Champion, but I don't think it would be a major shock if he never made it.
Trees
I bow to your superior knowledge re Billy Hamill, I searched for his FIM medal wins and only came up with the ones I quoted .......... lol As you can tell I'm no Hamill historian Bottom line for me is that I do not and never will rate Billy as high in speedway stakes as Leigh ........ full stop. And anyway that makes it 5 - 4 and Leigh is still racing at an international level so could easily pass Billy ......... nurrrrrrrrr
fatface
Fair play to you Trees, that's your opinion. Leigh is lucky to have fans like you.

Guest Jim Blanchard
Well, at least he has now been honoured with one of my paintings Trees. I would like him to get the championship too, he is a darn fine rider. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jim.blanchard/adams.html
