SCB
It seems both countries would love the chance to watch there on countries riding in an international meeting so why don't the promoters get together and arrange a Wales vs Scotland series? If the two Scotish and Welsh teams were to arrange a series would people attend? Phil Morris Tony Atkin Glenn Cuningham Tom Brown Jamie Westacott Darren Hatton Darren Pugh Nick Mallett vs James Grieves Ross Brady Kevin Little Blair Scott Derek Sneddon David McAllan William Lawson Barry Campbell/Sean Stoddart 8 riders each? YES, use the proper test match format then! Edited August 30, 2004 by SCB
JT
Why not have a home international three team tournament? 4 riders and two reserves on each team and make the England team U21 to give the English youngsters experience against the Welsh and Scottish 'seniors'?! The teams would then be: England U21 1.Edward Kennet 2.Daniel King 3.Ritchie Hawkins 4.James Wright R.Tommy Allen R.Steve Boxhall Scotland 1.James Grieves 2.Ross Brady 3.Kevin Little 4.Blair Scott R.David McAllan R.Derek Sneddon Wales 1.Phil Morris 2.Glenn Cunningham (Has actually rode for England in a test match) 3.Tony Atkin 4.Tom Brown R.Jamie Westacott R.Darren Hatton In my opinion that would be an excellent meeting with pretty evenly matched teams! SCB
Why have 3 teams? Speedway is a 2 team event, or a 4TT. 3TT are crap and don't work well as the one team can team ride the other 2 out but the two teams with only one rider each are hardly likely to team ride, so it's a joke. Guest Namibian
Very true SCB! Don't make it a 3TT - do it right and make it team versus team, and use the traditional Test Match formula with 8 man teams (6 plus 2 reserves) over the 18 heats. This is the only way to give the Welsh and Scottish National teams the credit and attention their international comebacks deserve. A 3TT or 4TT will never be regarded as meaningful as a proper International Test Match. There is no need the get the English involved in everything - they don't need the Welsh and Scottish riders for 'their' Team GB, so Wales and Scotland could and should go their very own way here at premier league level and start off without the English. There is no problem if England U-21 would like to join in and race their own separate international matches against Wales and Scotland, but each on its own please. And there is also no problems for any other international teams below the SWC / Elite League level to come and send their teams for these matche at PL/CL level. For visiting team from overseas or from the continent such as the Young Americans next spring or possibly others such as for example Holland, Norway, France, New Zealand, South Africa etc. who are too weak to race against the Team GB or a full England team at Elite League level, teams like Scotland and Wales would be great opponents. Imagine what kind of variety such touring teams could provide, and there could always be the odd gem to be discovered amongst the riders from these visiting teams.
