sandman
taking off of a very similar thread, i wonder where are a lot of the retired speedway racers? what did they do after they quit racing? work in a factory, drive race cars, go back to normal lives or struck it rich in business ventures? plumbers, electricians, lorry drivers? i would love to know what some of my own personal heroes from days gone by are doing now... speedway can be a cruel mistress to dance with... Cliv Clav
Graham Miles is a comedian now, spoke to him for a bit and he's a really nice guy. He has a great job, introducing some very nice and some VERY talented strippers onto the stage in between his routines! Lucky devil . Colin White, for anyone who didn't know, is the man behind CW Racing Products. He makes the race suits and bike livery of many riders and teams, including Arena Essex, Loram, Crump, Nicholls, Richardson etc. Edited August 27, 2004 by Cliv Clav
SuzieQ
I must admit I often wonder what some of the old Poole guys are up to these days! I know Pete Smith is still running Verwood Motors and Middlo is running the family business in Sturminster Marshall, aswell as being Poole and Team GB Team Manager etc. I saw Kevin Smith at Poole last year, he came down for Boycey's Testimonial but not too sure what he is doing now, get to see Steve Schofield occasionally at Poole (much to his fear! bless him, still remembers me mugging him every week to buy the drinks in the club). Eric Broadbelt come down to Poole a few times during the season but not too sure what he is doing at home nowadays! It would be great to have a real Poole Speedway Reunion, not just the ones from the 50's and 60's that we tend to have at Poole (not that I have anything against Ken Middleditch, Brian Crutcher, Ove Fundin etc) but it would be great to see all the guys from the 70's, 80's and 90's again too. What did happen to David Biles, Ali Stevens, Mike Curuso, Scott Autrey (tho I do kept reasonably up to date on him from his old mate over here), Dickie May, Ron Preston etc.....? Oh well that has stated me reminicing for the afternoon instead of getting on with work!

shazzybird
I thought exactly the same Steve, when I saw Jim at the VSRA for the first time I didn't think he'd changed one bit from when I was a kid and he was riding.

Tigerblade
Hi Jim McMillan (my dad) in now chief machine examiner for the country and works every week at the Coventry Bees. Lou Hi Lou, I remember your dad racing, Wolverhampton and Belle Vue mainly. He was big pals with Doug Wyer and Reg Wilson in the 70's and he wrote a brilliant full page tribute article in Reg's testimonial programme about one of the trips to Kuwait. I remember when Jim rode for us in the 80's,before we had a bar in Hyde Road we would shuffle off to the Aces pub,Jim,Peter Ravn and Andy Smith were there nearly every week, we'd all have a few pints then stand around in the car park for ages afterwards chatting. As far as I know still living in Folkestone 3. Last I heard he was up the line Middlesborough way but not 100% sure I heard Rob Tilbury was involved in a dubious industry, I wondered if it was true. He's probably earning good money, and thoroughly enjoying it though
