Sulli
After lots of posts about who people don't think will get called back, I was just wondering which 5/6 riders (I can't remember how many it is) do you think will get called back for next years GP? Guest richtea78
Its all a bit up in the air till we see who the last 8 are and then we might have an idea of who will get called back. At the moment there are still a lot of points on offer and there is the chance that someone might get injured and miss next 3 GPs so how can anyone say? arnieg
I think that any of the current top 8 who drop out would get a nomination for next year, so assuming that the top 8 are as at present that would leave: Richardson - a must as he is currently 9th so could displace one of the top 8 Andersen - he's won a GP now and is clearly good box office Hampel - has had a good GP season and is still young Nicholls - would be top 10 for certain and probably top 8 but for injury and the fifth seeded spot is up for grabs: Loram - would they seed three Brits - I doubt it Sullivan - has done nothing in his year's GP to merit inclusion Max - ditto Holta - poor GP season, but there is a GP in Norway and his Swedish/Polish league form is good Dryml L - on the strength of 2003 and with an eye on Czech GP and if we are looking for newcomers: Norris - again can't seed to many Brits, not done much outside UK Zagar - an outside bet if he wins under 21 given there is a Slovenian GP
Tactical Sub
Fair summary arnie - I'm biased in favour of Mark but he just doesn't look motivated at the GPs these days. Still can do it - hence the best rider at the SWC with all the GP riders present, riding well in the leagues and still a pleasure to watch but something seems amiss at the GPs. Jenn
what about KB?? 3rd in the GP qualifier and a semi finalist when in as a wild card! If there are only 16 riders in the GP next year..........surely there will be only 4 spots for elected permenant wild cards?? Top 8 from previous year 2 qualifiers 4 permenant wildcards 2 wildcards depending on the GP
Guest richtea78
Bjerre wont get in I dont think because there are already several Danes in it. The real reason wild cards are selected are for TV viewers not ability - countries where its thought there wont be enough interest on TV get a wild card - hence Kaj Laukennens inclusion this year - and I wouldnt be surprised to see him or Joonas picked next year. I would be very surprised to see more than 3 riders from any one country unless they are there via qualification.

Peter S.
Bjerre wont get in I dont think because there are already several Danes in it. Bjerre is 1st reserve, which should give him some rides. And you might be right that we will only have 3 danes in 2005, which should be OK. Work out : 2004 : 4 out of 24 riders, wins 2 out of 6 GP's so far ! 2005 : 3 out of 16 riders, wins ................................. See you Peter
Jenn
4 permenant wildcards2 wildcards depending on the GP I thought it was 5 and 1? It might be........i dont know..........it was just a guess (though 5+1 would be better than 4+2) Richtea........Kaj qualified for the GPs this year on his own merit , not as a wildcard!!!! He qualified via the meeting at Poole, not as a wild card. If memory serves this years permanent seeds are Loram, Richardson, Hampel, Andersen, Pedersen, Max (not too sure about those last 3)
rabbit
Pedersen qualified by right for this year. Think Lukas Dryml might be one of the other permanent wildcards in 2004. Hope that some of the younger up and coming riders like Bjerre, Hampel etc are given the nod. The likes of Max have been there and done it now and haven't set the world alight. Unfortunately as with most things, politics in the form of getting viewers might have more of an influence rather than sheer merit.
salty
Yes, you're right, forgot about Lukas.

KB will have maybe 3 or 4 GP's as a starter, and probably score an average of 8-10 points/GP.
rob
The organisers probably will be trying to spread the riders out evenly between the nations. Taking what Arnie suggested, the current top 8, plus Nicholls, Richardson, Hampel and Bjerre that leaves. Australia 2 Jason Crump & Leigh Adams Poland 3 Tomasz Gollob, Jarek Hampel, and Tomasz the qualifier. GB 2 Lee Richardson & Scott Nicholls Sweden 3 Tony Rickardsson, Andreas Jonsson & Antonio Lindback USA 1 Greg Hancock Denmark 3 Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne Pedersen & Hans N. Andersen (Who'm i missing??) Plus the last seed, which has to be between Ryan Sullivan & Lukas Drmyl IMO. The way they're spread out seems pretty good, not a bad field at all. Guest richtea78
Rob- cant argue with that assesment - last seed will go to Lukas to keep the Czechs interested
SW17 Racer
Is the change in format definite? I think they've got it spot on now. I've been to several GP's and don't miss one on the TV, and I can't see how the new format improves it. Also you get to see more riders and more spoilers. One of the lower placed riders can always pop out and upset things. Will this happen in the new format or are we just going to see the same top 6-8? JT
If the last spot goes to Lukas Dryml then the GP series will shoot iself in the foot, he has done nothing this season to show that he will regain the form he showed the year before this and with the likes of Bjerre and Iversen scoring 13 in one GP, it would mean riders not in the GP series have nothing to go for knowing full well that if they are of a country with other good riders they are handicapped, all because one country no longer has the riders to hold down a GP place, the wildcards should go on how a rider has performed in international meetings(league form has nothing to do with international in my opinion with riders raising their game for international meetings) of the year before in which Dryml or any other Czech rider for that matter have failed to impress! Guest richtea78
JT - you are assuming that the GP is about talent and not TV viewers - thats your mistake
JT
JT - you are assuming that the GP is about talent and not TV viewers - thats your mistake Sadly Richtea your theory may just be correct, I cant imagine Lukas Dreary Dryml attracts many TV viewers though even in his home country, this season he has been one of the most boring riders in the series! FlyinRyan
I think the five nominations will go to: Andersen - won a GP, good value for money and he puts bums on seats Nicholls - Got to have a Brit Richardson - See above Sullivan - One below average season can't be compared to three or four good seasons when he genuinely challenged for the world title Holta - Speedway in Norway is on the up and with the GP in Hamar it is vital to include him
