Guest Naz_griff
Anyone know who the riders with Welsh blood are? If Wales have enough riders it would be good to have a tournament between Wales, England and Scotland. Obviously England wouldn't have riders like Scott Nicholls because they would be too good to take part but they could use the under 21 team and then try and get some tv coverage for it for it to boost the knowledge of Speedway in Wales. JT
Phil Morris Tony Atkin - Made in Wales! Tom Brown Jamie Westacott These are the only riders I can think of that are of PL quality (Brown and Westacott are reserves at the most at the moment) and there is always Lord of the Longtrack Nick Mallet. Graig Gough use to be PL quality and was actually a decent prospect but he seems to have gone off the boil since his move to Camarthen and I don't know if he still rides! Guest Naz_griff
What about Darren Pugh and possibly Darren Hatton? Aren't they Welsh? What about other riders in the Premier or even the Elite League who may have Welsh grandparents who would qualify them to ride for Wales? If it's good enough for Rugby and Football, why not Speedway? OK they may not be world beaters, but I think it would do the world of good for the domestic scene. Incidently do any Scottish or Welsh speedway folk support team GB which is basically a team England? My guess is not many.
Guest Arturo
Deano, it surely would benefit Speedway generally to have more competition between the nations of Britain- we'd only have to make sure that the teams were of a similar standard. Also Deano - We (around here) certainly support "Team GB" to some extent (because all the riders are such nice guys, no cheats!!) but they're proud to be representing ENGLAND (quite rightly so) - I think we Welsh (and probably) Scottisch Speedway fans would love to see our own nations represented at international level - it wouldn't matter if we didn't get through the qualifying rounds - taking part would be fantastic!!!!!!!! jill
i would love to see an event like this truth is scotand and wales dont have manyt riders. if it was possible and it did happen as ive got welsh english and scottish parentage i would be spoilt for choice of who to shout for it really gets on my nerves tho when the GB teams gets called england... i know there all english riders but if it was ENGLAND instead of GB who would the welsh and scots shout for... doubt it would be england. at least if a good rider pops up in scotland and wales they could be included in the GB team if it was england they wouldnt get to ride Edited August 22, 2004 by jill
Billabong
I support team England in the world cup! im not scotish or welsh, never been to scotland or wales dont really want to either! im english and the team in the world cup was team england to me

Sorry to have to break the news to you, but it was Team GB (not England). 2 - "Never been to Scotland or Wales" (capital letters please) - "don't really want to either!" - very mature and grown up comments 3 - Yes, the riders were all English and that's fine - England produce the best riders in the UK. Down here in Wales, we supported Team GB, I'm sure the majority did. You have to remember that this is Speedway we are talking about, not football. 4 - You state "im english" -(I think you mean "I'm English") - well thank goodness for that - we wouldn't want you to be Welsh and I'm sure the Scots wouldn't want you either If the teams were seperated into England, Scotland, and Wales, then obviously that would be different, and we would all support our own nations, but until then, I'd assumed that we all supported the one team, called Team GB. At Carmarthen, we have been running in the past a 4 Nations tournament with England, Scotland, Wales and Rest of the World teams made up of PL and CL level riders - hopefully we can do the same again at the end of this season. Billabong, at least you'd be able to support your team then
Billabong
I do know that it isn't a team! lol but i guess it has to be called team GB for poltical correctness, the fine people from wales and scotland need something good in there lives, might as well be an English influence has been for the past 600years!!! SCB
Glenn Cunninghams mum is from Newport Not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing! Welsh rider, AFAIK are, Phil Morris, Tony Atkin, Tom Brown, Jamie Westacott, Darren Pugh, Darren Hatton, Nick Mallett and Russell Barnett (but that last one is streching the term, speedway rider). I think the Gough bros, Graig and David have retired and Graig sticks to mechanicing for Wato these days. Does having a Welsh kid make you Welsh, what about a Welsh wife(I'm sure that does as there's a cyclist who is married to a Welsh girl and is in the process of becoming Welsh)? If so I might be able to get two more Edited August 22, 2004 by SCB

iris123
I was born in England from Scottish parentage and although at various times i have supported both i certainly wouldn`t support a team called Britain.I now support no national team, based mainly on my experience of going to an England v Scotland footie match and finding myself standing shoulder to shoulder with Rangers fans who i have a bit of a dislike of
