Brightonbob
Just an idea I wanted to flag up after hearing about the Vojens circus which seemed pretty unfair (rubbish track, floodlight failures, poor crowd and difficult for clubs) Why don't they have the GP qualifier on the weekend of a GP at the same stadium(an indoor one I should think)? Surely it would be a top ticket as either an afternoon meeting or the day prior. It would be a fair crack of the whip for such an enormous prize and worth a double-header ticket. It would also ne more financially viable for clubs, riders and TV to cover as they would already be there. In fact why not get a stadium have the GP qualifier, then GP, then over the next week have the SWC! Now that would be worth a week off work. Just strikes me all those resources could be pooled and speedway could put on a real showcase.
pugwash
G.P qualifiers are now a thing of the past. Gone.
Brightonbob
So how do they do it next year?
pugwash
If your face fits your'e in, it's as simple as that. Top 8 stay in, the rest are out and B.S.I nominate 8 more. 16 riders in total.
Brightonbob
Missed opportunity I reckon. I can understand 8 staying in, 4 wildcards (plus any retirements from the 8) and four qualifiers. That seems fair. How many wildcards this year and who do you think will get them? JT
If this is true then there are plus and minus points. The plus point is riders like Chrzonowski, Drymls etc dont slip through the net the minus point is it doesn't give anything for riders to go for and the favourites will always be picked. I personally prefer the current 24 rider line up with sudden death, the racing is usually brilliant because of it!
NeilWatson
Taken from the FIM regulations for the GPs: • The top 8 riders of the Final Overall Grand Prix Classification of that year shall be directly qualified for the next year’s Grand Prix Series. • The top 2 riders from the Final Classification of the Individual Speedway World Championship Grand Final shall be directly qualified for the next year’s Grand Prix series. The following six riders will become Qualified Reserve riders • To make up the 16 riders for the next year's Speedway Grand Prix Championship, the remaining 6 riders, including up to 1 Wild Card rider, will be decided by the Speedway Grand Prix Promoter and the SGP Commission. Brightonbob
What chance Mark Lorams retirement and Dave Norris's selection I wonder. In a bad fortnight for the money men, Andergoon ruins their showcase and hard work, then manages a fluke win in the next GP to mean they will have to give him a ticket.
