BrizHeathen
Can anyone else remember the Ipswich/John Louis fan who used to play a trumpet or bugle, he always played a tune prior to Tiger Louis's races. I've got a couple of very old videos where you can hear him in the background and I remember seeing him at various venues in the seventies. Hawkeye
I certainly do remember the bugle boy. He used to stand on the middle of the back straight at Foxhall in the 70's. Infact, I took my brother in law to his 1st meeting at the home match vs. Poole the other week and I was telling him all about the bugler then. I seem to remember he disappeared towards the late 70's then re-surfaced in the Sigalos/Cook era in the early eighties. I then moved away from East Anglia and have only recently returned so I don't know if he's still a regular fan.
tigerlouisfan
I know it's been a while since you posted, but I only found the site today! I think the person you're after was known as "Uncle Bulgaria" and used to run the boating lake down at Felixstowe. Hope this was of help
Guest dontforgetoturnleft!!
'Uncle Bulgaria' real name Bruce Harrison was not 'Trumpeter Boy' !! Â Uncle Bulgaria worked for Speedworth at both Stock Cars and Speedway keeping kids behind the, then, metal red and white fence (now the Amco barrier). Â He still lives in Felixstowe, although better to avoid if possible as he seems aversea to showers. Â Anybody remember the Belle Vue counterpart "Soilder Boy". When Ipswich completed the 1984 League/Cup double by beating BV in the KOC final he barracked Billy Sanders on the victory parade. Billy got the truck driver to stop, pulled solider boy on the truck, and it pulled off. It was so funny, with Solider boy keeping shouting 'we'll have them (the trophies) back next year!" tigerlouisfan
Sorry for the mis-information I had spoken to my father regarding the "Trumpeter" and he also informed me I was wrong, but was unable to shed any light on the matter! boxer123
Anyone remember, or has any info on "shotgun donald" who sold photos badges etc around 1960. He wandered round the ground with an ice cream type box hung around his neck. I still have many of the photos I bought from him at 6d each, plus a few of the badges. Â Wonder if hes still about ? Steve Shovlar
There's a picture of The Bugler in the book, "Inside Speedway", John Louis, 1977.
