The problem is that I don't know what "zagrodzenie" is

Dzien dobry Champion

How about we settle on 'pub'. Translating tools can struggle with words with more than one meaning (as can humans :) )

Rico

Would be great but looks like I'm not gonna be at Bydgoszcz GP (studies) :/

How do you pronounce the "thank you" in polish? I had read it from here before the wroclaw gp, tried it a couple of times, usually I got a funny looking smile back! :D

Personally I think polish and checz people are good with their english, and the fact that the security persons at the track dont speak it, is because when they were at school, they were told russian is the language to learn.

Anyway, we are going to bydgosz on friday to sunday, seeing and staying in Torun on sunday, then flying home from Warsaw on monday. Every little detail on getting to the track and back in torun and bydgosz would be greatly appreciated. Especially because I cant speak or read polish, and we got lost on the tram in Wroclaw and missed the practise.

There is an English version available (upper right corner), and there's also "The City Map" icon (somewhere in the middle) :D

From English Phonetically I would suggest 'jenkoo-yeh' would get you by and perhaps slightly less odd smiles :)

Which hotel are you basing yourself in Bydgoszcz ? I'll sort you a map out from your hotel to the track. The track is around 20/30 minute walk from town. I'll see what I can come up with for Torun as well and e-mail them to you via here (won't be till the weekend at the earliest).

The Brda is very close to the station, but about 20-30 mins walk back through the town as Rico says. On the Saturday morning you'll start to see plenty of scarves and flags being banded around.

The taxis are dirt cheap over there, so we often hop in one down to the stadium, BKS Polonia Zuzel normally gets the message across - zuzel is speedway in Polish.

A couple of stories from our visits . .

In 2001, when we got off the train, we were warily greeted by a local - whats going on here we thought, with a bit of broken English and the words Tomek Gollob we established a form of communication at a speedway level, he then burst into raucaus appreciation of one 'Marek Loram' and shook our hands.

The level of English speaking Poles is on the increase. Last year this chap called 'Sebastian' greeted us in the crowd, he had very good English learnt from watching satellite channels - the amazing thing was his Gran (who he hasn't seen) lives in Blackpool !

In 2001 we met another good english speaking fan in the crowd (Michael) and last year we amazingly bumped into him on the crossing right outside the Brda - in fact he hollered me form the other side of the street - we'd not been in touch but he'd remembered my name and what I looked like.

Also last year, our party of 5 crammed into the compartment of the train from Poznan to Bydgoszcz along with 2 elderly Polish ladies ( they had both been speaking Polish whilst waving to departing relatives - one presumes). One of them asked where we were from in very good english - we said England, half expecting them to think we were Aussies or Americans, she laughed I know that, but where in England ? Coventry we replied - well you couldn't pick her up off the floor for about 2 minutes for hers fits of hysterical laughter - yes I know Coventry is not the most inpsirational of places but, her laughter was real - she was also from Coventry (Willenhall in fact) She was on a 2 week visit to see relatives being an ex-pat Pole who moved to the UK as a child.

It's a small world !

Wackie - I don't blame them for having a beer or two but when they are drunk -  You have to draw the line somewhere.Because people end up getting hurt. I know i did coz one pushed me over and broke my phone. We purchased out tickets on press and practice.Their was no rain forecast for the GP day. If their was then we would have purchased seat tickets.I know it's not just a Polish thing but do that have to do it right next to you.I didn't say i wasnt going again. We are going to Prague again because we have discounted tickets in the seating area courtasey of BSI.

Beware of very p*ssed Brits then, there were a few of them around the Grandstand this year too!

yeh, wackie,me being one of em,bloody rain :D nah still a good evening,am looking forward to poland(no rain please)

Map of Torun here.

If you zoom out you can see the railway lines coming in just south of the river - that's where the station is. The link above is a close up of where the speedway stadium is.

To get the above map from scratch, select 'Apator' on the Kluby sportowe dropdown in the top right of the screen you can see the location of the speedway (zuzel).

For Bydgoszcz if you follow the link kindly supplied by Champion and click on the City Map icon.

If you scroll down the page to the links, click on Baseny (swimming pool), then when the page refreshes scroll down again and click the 'Point' beside KS Polonia the map will zoom into show 'Sportowa', the street beside the speedway stadium. You can then zoom out and see where this is in relation to the town centre.

Thanks to Rico and Champion for the maps. Both very useful.

Can someone please confirm the account name that the money order needs to be sent to when paying for tickets?

I have tickets reserved after emailing Bydgoszcz Stadium, but have been unable to confirm the account name with them.

Thanks

Martin

Yes mate the money order form from your bank needs to be filled in with the payment. Bank Pocztowy S.A.- Oddzial w Bygoszczy Pocz Pl P4 and the rather long number after it. This should be on the fax that you were sent.

I don't want to put the number on incase of security, hope it helps.

You can E-mail me at sjw1@blueyonder.co.uk if you need anymore help Martin.

Is any one staying at the Pod Orlem,we are changing hotels from the City hotel because we have been told that even though we have booked quite a while ago that we may have to be sent to another hotel because of the amount of rooms needed for the riders and staff of the GP.

Is the rail station at Warsaw airport or do we need to travel between the airport and the rail station.

Thanks
