MAGPIE
lol now why doesn't that suprise me f-s-p?!!at least my head isn't pounding anymore! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> is the pounding head from the lech or the atmosphere in the stadium i along with my friend cagey were 1st time visitors to Bydgoszcz and enjoyed every minute of the whole experience. we sat in sector B at the entrance to the 3rd bend amongst the poles who were noisy but enjoyed themselves. this is what speedway is all about, having a great time no matter what your nationality. it would be interesting to hear where everybody else who went sat in the stadium. sward
we sat in sector B at the entrance to the 3rd bend amongst the poles who were noisy but enjoyed themselves. Hey, you must have been near me then! The weekend was totally awesome, the passion from the Polish fans was amazing. Got to see Zielona Gora against Leszno yesterday, terrific racing, crowd of 9,000. According to the locals they usually get a whopping 15,000. The highlight was watching Lee Richardson fight through from the back. During the gp the Polish people were terrific, about 5 of them introduced themselves and shook my hand if a Brit won a race. Gollob is an absolute hero over there. Kristof Cegelski got a tremendous cheer when he rode round on his quad. Overall an amazing weekend i would reccomend to anyone!
Joanne
Not long back from Bydgoszcz myself. Had a great weekend. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric unlike anywhere else, apart from maybe another Polish track Met up with Rico and Henry W, also Kev and Addy at the track who made the GP experience alot better for me . The food tasted good but not agreeing with me now. I had a burger type thing that was mushy (raw like inside), the coffee was too strong as well. Would recommend to anyone who likes speedway to get out there next year. Bydgoszcz is a lovely town, not too sure about Warsaw though. Oh, I forgot, don't go with Air Polonia. The pilots can't fly properly and the airport you fly out of is so small that the flight ends up getting delayed because everyone hasn't been through security yet Edited September 20, 2004 by Joanne
Papa Bazarou
Just got back myself - quick summary more to follow when I get the chance . . Privileged once again to see Lord Tomek strut his stuff (even though he was probably lucky to get a 2nd bite of the cheery in the final) the racing overall though this year being a bit more processional then what we've seen Bydgoszcz serve up previously - Gollobs racing lines though are simply unique. Stadium atmosphere superb - the best of the 3 I've been to - crowd seemed even bigger than before - exiting the 2nd turn you could not move. For those Nikki bashers out there - the Bydgoszcz home fans have also taken him to heart as well - 2 very 'straight to the point banners' were removed by the security staff before the start, each simply they told Nikki in no uncertain terms where to go ! It all stems from a recent league match when Nikki ran I believe 1-1-X-X, the X's involving dumping home riders into the fence - say no more Met fellow forumites - f-s-p (all the way from Finland !), pugwash + other half, starttart, rico, henryw, splatty and all the coventry members, plus Addy at Poznan airport on the return leg ! A superb advert for Polish Extraleague racing at Torun on the Sunday was witnessed by all. Not known as being a Crumpy fan but see him in differnt light after Sunday - one of the best races I've seen in a long time - for those that were there, you'll know what I'm talking about ! A very well presented meeting - quality racing, good shaped & prepared track, committed riders, tidy stadium, passionate fans - English speedway is a distant second - or probably third if you take Sweden into account ! And yes Joanne - AirPolonia - interesting flying techniques - the most bizarre of approaches to Poznan on Friday - left, right, right a bit more, no left again, up a bit, down a bit, left again, ahh quick blip on the throttles so we make the end of the tarmac and don't eat grass and there we are - welcome to Poznan ! Poznan airport itself was fine though - brand new only built last year I think. And as for the landing at Stansted this afternoon - we bounced big time - I fly on a regular basis - it was hairy ! Look out for Papa's webshots - I'll publish them soon. Edited September 20, 2004 by Papa Bazarou
Splatty
Great to meet you Papa as it was with all the other forumers and the other great guys we met - don't suppose you've seen the tape yet? I think they preferred your wigs to ours Bydgoszcz was certainly an experience - we were lucky to be welcomed into the fold just off bend 2 or we could have been standing 3 deep at the top of the terracing. The organisers definitely let in a few thousand too many! The Polish fans were great and certainly know how to enjoy themselves - although having to hold up a 17 stone guy is not an easy matter! A bit sad that we chose the year that the guys rode on concrete but it didn't seem to phase Tomasz which was great. Everything went smoothly for us from start to finish - not a train was missed or a ticket lost - although I wish I had read that phrasebook a bit more - very impressed with Rico's grip on the language! Most of Friday and Saturday nights are pretty hard to remember now but my hangovers in the mornings following will be legendary - and im sure we spent hours putting the speedway world to rights. Won't be one I forget in a hurry and a return in 2005 is definitely on the cards!
JayEmm
Got back yesterday evening after an amazing weekend. Huge thanks to Ballinger for making all the arrangements and acting as tour guide par exellence!!! Thanks to Papa, Jo and John for thier experience and help with everything from buying beer to arranging the most fantastic position in the stadium amonst the Bydgoscz massif. What a day and witnessing Tomek winning his home GP was awesome Seasoned travellers tell me that the racing was not as good as usual as the track had been Olsened but it was still a great meeting from mine and The It Man's point of view. The Poles were wonderful and so enthusiastic. Met some great people and made some new friends, Dawn and Nikki the only thing missing was Janey I'm sure the new arrival will make up for it when he arrives. Hi to the other forum members we were introduced to in the Brda on Friday. The Sunday meeting at Torun was tremendous and I can only echo Papa's sentiments, watching the play off meetings last night was likwe watching paint dry and UK speedway could learn so much from the way the Poles, prepare tracks for racing and organise events. We will be back next year for sure.
Guest Thunder
Hello everybody! What guests from abroad who were in Torun will say about 18 years old Karol Zabik who beat twice Tomasz Gollob on Sunday? Attendance was poor (only 7.000 - during matches against Bydgoszcz and during other important maches there are about 15.000-20.000 spectators with superb atmosphere, Sundays meeting was only for prestige, after 7 straight losses for Torun-no chance for medal). Hope to see you soon in Torun and other polish cities on extraleague matches! Regards
f-s-p
lol now why doesn't that suprise me f-s-p?!!at least my head isn't pounding anymore! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mine either, anymore... Got back to Finland late monday evening, home today afternoon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just like our SAS from Copenhagen friday morning Great to meet you Papa as it was with all the other forumers and the other great guys we met - don't suppose you've seen the tape yet? I think they preferred your wigs to ours <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We started getting the facts straight the minute we came back to Finland, and I was actually a little bit disappointed not (really) seeing our group in it, because Splatty was on it every five minutes with his RH flag, and Papa with his wig. Good for you! It was really nice to meet you all, see you again next year!

Lucky Star
I went to Bydoszcz for the first time last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I travelled up by train from Krakow after watching the Under 21 Final at Wroclaw the previous Saturday. The atmosphere inside the stadium at Bydgoszcz was absolutely brilliant despite the fact that I sat on the back straight just where the smoke bombs went off (and that was not a very pleasant experience!). I sat next to a group of Polish fans from Leszno who were very friendly. One of them spoke perfect English and they really surprised me by clubbing together and buying me a Polish scarf as gift. I wore it with pride that evening and will treasure it forever as a reminder of my first trip to their wonderful country. I also met quite a few British fans over there so greetings especially to Mike and Charlie from Coventry, Martin and Jack from Stoke, Graham and Gary from Rye House, Matt also from Rye House (sorry I didn't spot you inside the Stadium but it was hard enough finding an empty seat let alone finding you!) and all the gang from Arena Essex. I wish I had read the warnings about Air Polonia before I travelled because I think that I had the same pilot as Papa Bazarou on my outward flight - the landing at Warsaw was unusual to say the least. On my return I found out that the Etudia departure lounge is a complete joke! Scott Nicholls and Mark Loram obviously knew the ropes because they checked in just in front of me but then disappeared until just before boarding - presumably they went for something nice to eat and drink in the main terminal whilst I sat drinking lousy coffee from the vending machine in the overcrowded departure lounge. Next time I won't make the same mistake. Overall I had a great holiday in Poland and would thoroughly recommend the place to anyone who has not been there before. The food and drink is very cheap indeed and there are some stunning sights in places like Krakow, Wroclaw and Torun. My day trip to the infamous concentration camp at Auschwitz was a haunting experience and something that I will never forget. OK the racing at both Wroclaw and Bydgoszcz was rather processional but it certainly was an experience not to be missed. I will certainly go back to Poland again next year. TheStartTart
Seems the LECH and / or local strange brew was already taking effect judging by the phonecalls I've received from some unknown hostelry there throughout the evening! Arena-Essex proggie editor Alan Sargent plus King's Lynn's "Big Mick" and two mates have already been waylaid and led astray by IOW fan Sharon! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wrong Bryn, all wrong, I blame it on the Kebab, was fine until then, the LECH had nothing to do with it, the double vodkas after the LECH might have, have to say that neither were as horrific as the MAD DOG on Saturday night for the uninitiated MAD DOG is vodka, tabasco sauce and a splash of juice. Have to say that I have seen parts (which will remain nameless) of a speedway rider (who will remain nameless) that no speedway fan should ever see. Nice to meet up with Rico, Pugwash, Splatty, Papa Bazarou and plenty of others whose names I can't remember. Long live Bydgoszcz and roll on Bydgoszcz 2005

I'll look out for you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As I just said on the phone - how can I answer that when we've spoken on the phone several times since your post this morning Yes, splendid wasn't it ? Quote of the weekend Background: Place: Torun Helios Hotel - 2nd night there (Sunday) Previous night, 60 supporters on the two cities tour plus two coach loads of weekenders stayed at the Helios. Decide to eat at the hotel - request beer with meals. The response from the waiter: "This is a very unusual thing - it has never happened before ... We had speedway fans here last night, and there is no beer left in the hotel ..."
