Tonight at Poole

Recommended Posts

Well first of all what a great atmosphere! A capacity crowd, decked out in Union Jacks and thousands of airhorns. A wall of sound.

The track. Again excellent with more brilliant racing.

By the way I hear that the stands on third and forth bends are remaining for the end of the season. So great viewing on the bends now as well.

Team GB. Proud to be a Brit. Neil and the boys did themselves proud man for man. I am sure Middlo will pop in here tomorrow to see what the fans thought and man for man we are proud of the effort Team GB put out. (except Vincent Vega)

I havent seen a TV replay of heat 25 but from the grandstand it looked like Hans Just let both Sweden and GB through to battle it out, staying out of the way. He didn't want to know.

Totally gutted after heat 25. But after a few mins I was just proud our guys did so well.

Now the future, and it's time to worry. British Speedway Promoters Association must act NOW. There are no youngsters coming throuogh so where will we be in 5 years time? Trying to qualify alongside Hungary and Italy?

A plan needs to be put in place now. A youth policy like Sweden and Denmark have, otherwise we will never be in a position to get close for the foreseeable future.

I thought what Andersen did was a disgrace, any bad feelings between Scotty and Hans will surely emerge on Thursday at Foxhall, can't wait.

And who was the dickhead with a red flash on his camera.....................

Think it was Hans ................. father ;)

Now back at the hotel, what an awesome day, brilliant meeting, brilliant atmosphere.....truly amazing.

We set off early for this and arrived in Poole at just before midday, checked into our rooms and decided to go and look around the town and find something to eat. We also thought it would be a good idea to see how long it took us to get to the stadium from our hotel.....and discovered people queueing already (this was at 2pm) so joined at the end.We were kept entertained by the various riders and others (well the girls in my husbands case) and time passed quickly. We were finally let into the stadium (while hubby was having the British flag painted onto his bald head) and made a mad dash to the 1st corner....unfortunately it was already occupied,so we moved and ended up on the home straight in front of the grandstand where we had great views all through the meeting. The meeting itself was simply amazing, the noise, the crowd, the atmosphere......a night I won't forget.

Oh and WELL DONE TEAM GB

I will be watching the recording with great interest, not only to try to spot us in the the crowd, but also to see what happened in heat 25.

You were more prominent than the ref and Hans Anderson mate and Shovlars attempts to say all seats were full on temporary grandstands-must have been a mass rush to the loo as the camera panned around-counted 95 empty seats :D --was very quick but mid screen.

Must admit I would have to agee with Steve Shovlar (for once), on our various walks around the stadium there didn't seem to be any spaces left....the place was heaving.....and I mean with people not with anything else.

I have to agree with Steve - the place was packed and you couldnt have got any more people in. Was glad to see that Poole have got a new tannoy although I would suspect that Eastbourne and Arean will be taking it back again as it looked suspisciously like ours.

As to the viewing, I queued from around 2pm to get my place on the first bend and wasnt happy that they let people from the back of the queue in under the grandstand, that wasnt very clever. I did get my place on the first bend though, and a case of sunstroke to go with it.

I would have to say that despite the track being poor there was some great racing, maybe the blue line wasnt that much of a problem.

I think the Poole promotion do a very good job on the whole, certainly Ive never seen such high profile advertising around the town of Eastbourne. I would say that some of the posters are a little out of date (Rickarrdson, Current World Champ, riding for Poole  ), but at least they were there. A scoreboard would have been nice to keep a check on things as I like to check Ive got the programme right but I dont know where they could put it.

Last suggestion would be rather than having the seats on the bends why not put raised standing platforms in the whole way round the bend, charge a bit more than standing at the fence but get a lot more people in. Everyones a winner?

Blimey richtea, you must have been in the same bit of queue as me...we started queuing at 2pm and we were also annoyed that they let people in the other way.....we did get a small spot on the first bend but youngest son found it very difficult to cope with the people coming and going into the temp stands so we moved and found our patch in front of the grandstand on the home straight

Also since getting home (a mere 30 mins ago) I have been told several times I was on TV....drinking and before anyone says that it's not unusual, it was a plain cup of tea, all I had all day alcoholic was one bottle of beer while we were waiting to get into the stadium, the rest was shared cups of tea with hubby and lots and lots of water.

We were also made a little famous at the stadium, my youngest son had got through to the final of the limbo dancing and myself and my 3 sons had trekked all the way round to the pits area for him to go on the centre green to take part, only for some confusion with the limbo dancers telling him to come with them and the lady judge, or whoever she was, saying no his name is not on the list, result, no son on centre green but an apology from the woman and the offer of a prize anyway (a free T shirt). On the way back, eldest and middle sons took off at a run while I followed on in a more leisurely manner with youngest son, we arrive back at our spot, eldest son is there but middle son is nowhere to be seen. Quick trek around the stadium in the hope of spotting him, no luck, so a now very concerned and getting extremely stressed me had to inform a steward of said missing middle son. Well the stadium management and police were informed and an announcement was arranged to be put out in the stadium when all of a sudden, middle son comes tearing round the corner in tears.........resulting in a very relieved mum and son..........about 5 minutes after he had been found, the announcement went out in the stadium that a little boy had gone missing

Eldest son also solved the problem of seating, he managed to grab a spot on one of the concrete walls at the front of the granstand and spent half of the meeting looking very relaxed and comfortable, while we were getting dusty, dirty and very very tired......all in all, a brillliant weekend.

We ended up letting a couple of small kids in front of us because they just couldnt see otherwise, one of them who got his ticket a couple of days before, had to pay adult price as they had "sold out" of child tickets.

Comments like that annoy me. The camerman was just doing his job. Since BSI took charge of SGP and SWC events they have decided to ban photographers on the centre green because it looks messy and not good on TV slow mo's. The media try to cover these events in the best way they can, despite restrictions put on them by the event organisers, so that you, Joe Public, can get as much coverage as possible. I believe there was a thread on this very forum a few days ago about speedway not getting enough coverage, so give the guy a break. If it wasn't him it would have been someone else. These things happen at all tracks now and again. Has anyone ever watched a race from the pits at Wolverhampton? If so, you will know that quite often as cars leave the stadium from the third/fourth bend, you see their red break lights in the distance. Just another example. At the end of the day. Scott may have seen a red light but maybe he should have waited to see a red flag also before he stopped. He made a mistake and lived to regret it. Lets not be bad losers and just be proud that team GB rode so well. It was just not good enough unfortunately.

That's absolutely awful that they had to do that. I don't see why children have to pay the same as adults. It was bad enough at Cardiff having to pay £40 for a 7 year old. He enjoyed it yes, but it's a bit expensive.
