Star Lady
We got a touch bored last night watching the first half of the meeting, so were discussing why have Palm Trees. We decided that as the rules are a bit woolly to say the least, or not well publicised....take your pick, the Palm Trees are there in case two teams tie for first place or for the last qualifying place. In that event the team that goes thro will be the team that can propel one of the palm trees the furthest. If it happens our money is on the Aussies. The Danes would fall back on their Viking past and hurl the palm tree like a javelin, and the Czechs would throw one like a dart. The Italians whichever method they used would end up with their palm tree going behind them. With the inventive Neil Street and Phil Crump in their pits, the Aussies would commandeer Shane Parkers' testimonial thong and use it as a catapault Just to be serious for a second, what does happen in the event of two teams tying? Gemini
Just to be serious for a second, what does happen in the event of two teams tying? Yes, what indeed? I hope something positive has been sorted out because wasn't that the cause of all the trouble with the American team in 2002(?) when they had tied with another country to go through to the final? My memory is terrible so I can't remember all the details, but I can recall Greg Hancock getting very upset and he is normally pretty laid back. Loved your little story by the way SL. 21st century heathen
The team with the most race wins goes through. (I think)
Kevin Meynell
Just to be serious for a second, what does happen in the event of two teams tying? A runoff. The problem in previous years was that there were three groups, but only five teams could go into the Last Chance. Therefore, there had to be a tiebreak method to separate teams between groups, even though they hadn't ridden against each other. This season, it's two from each qualifying group to the last chance, and the top two from that into the Final, so there isn't an issue anymore. Star Lady
Cheers Kevin, would still rather see The Palm Trees launched tho Glad you enjoyed it Gemini, you know me, I refuse to take much in speedway seriously anymore There was much more banter last night too, including remarks after one of the commentators said an Italian had a Big Willy.....well that's what we thought he said anyway
Gemini
So which rider was that? Daniele, Simone or Andrea?
Star Lady
We missed the name Gemini. At the time we were laughing because Vickis friend was telling us how her Mum had spotted a certain rider removing his dentures on Sky the evening before. None of us had spotted it and it did shatter a few illlusions I can tell you Mr Millard then assured us that the Danes could "pull it off" which just sent us into another round of raucous hilarity The entertainment in front of our TV is far classier than that provided by BSI, as you can tell Edited August 4, 2004 by Star Lady
Gemini
At the time we were laughing because Vickis friend was telling us how her Mum had spotted a certain rider removing his dentures on Sky the evening before. I must pay more attention as I missed this. Come on...give us a clue when, or I will have to watch the whole lot over again. Surely not Nicki? Star Lady
I didn't see it myself so not sure when it was, seem to remember Sue saying he was talking to a Swede. Couple of clues the rider in question is one of my favs and has a superb rear view (which cannot be false ) he also has a brilliant smile, (which doesn't quite have the same effect now) and he is not Danish but has Lynn connections. Gemini
Damn! That means I am going to have to watch the whole lot again tomorrow to find out. So this is Monday night, someone talking to a Swedish rider, with a nice bum. Well that narrows it down a bit. Err....Shane Parker? Although personally I've never seen his bum, but I understand he is quite partial to showing it when the occasion arises.
