Britians Chances?

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda new to this game, always watched Speedway on the TV before but never really had much of a chance to get to meetings and really get into it until recently when I've managed to get across the bridge to Cardiff for the GP and to Berwick where my girlfriend comes from.

So at this level of the game how well are Britain respected? My old man was well into Speedway in his younger days and still is to some extent, he used to watch the Bristol Bulldogs when they were about and tells me that the British team is only a shadow of what it has been in the past, says we're all too old now.

I want to know what you more experienced supporters out there think of our chances this summer, im looking forward to some top flight action either way but to see our boys come off on top would be great.

Anyway, I'm off to watch the Rovers' so look forward to running my eyes over some of your views in the morning.

Cheers

Same as in most sports that we have half a chance in. i.e. if we perform to our full potential, sprinkled with a bit of luck, we can we it. I reckon though, we'll cock it right up and have no luck  Coupled with the fact that the Aussies and possibly the Danes and Swedes also have better teams than us, it will be tough

With the likes of Nicholls, Loram and Norris we have three top class riders. After that we're struggling although nicknote Richardson can be good on his day.

Unfortunately whereas we have 3, maybe 4 good riders other teams like Sweden, Denmark and Poland have 5 World class riders and then squad members who on there days could match any of our boys. Then of course there's always the Aussies with Crump, Adams and Sullivan and although I don't think they'll win, it will probably be them who puts the final nail in the British coffin.

We'll struggle to make the final.

Sweden will will retain their title.

Sweden will will retain their title.

I have to agree, Sweden look stronger this year then they did last eyar at full strength and they won it without the World Number 1 (at the time! TRick). I think it's there's this season.

That said, I believe Team GB can push them very hard, infact, I think they can push them more than Australia who have always beent he favourites for the last 4 or 5 years as they seem to have become quite weak, losing Todd Wiltshire to retirement and just not having that 5th man could be bad for them, having no 5th man cost them in the end last season. The pressures on Adam Sheilds and Johno there, if they do the business, maybe but I'm more conident of Screen and half fit Rico doing more than them two. Prahaps that hope more than anything.

The Danes are strong all the way through, they have a WC, a GP threat(Pedersen 2) and a couple of good young 'un's who raise there game for the international scene(Puk and Bjerre), Hans Andersen is mean(in more way that one ;)) opposition as well.

Basically, Sweden, Team GB, Denmark/Aus(either way around, theyre too similar) will be the top 3(4). But that said, Denmark and Aus could win it, it's IMO the closest SWC final ever, I'm really looking forward to it.

I still think that Sweden and Denmark will go straight to the final, with Australia and Poland coming through the race off at Poole.

If Poland mess up then GB are in with a chance but with Gollob, Hampel and Protasiewicz I can't see them messing up. Then of course with The Dryml brothers also in the meeting they could spoil the GB party even more.

Result of the Final.....

1. Sweden

2. Poland

3. Denmark

William Hill have us at 5/1 4th faves. (behind Aus, Den, Swe)

In the three years since the new format WTC started we've had terrible luck with injuries. Again our boys are carrying injuries, but seem to be coping quite well. Lee is suffering, and probably shouldn't ride. At his best he's a great rider, and we really do need him.

Rider for rider it's hard to chose between GB, Aus, and Swe. On paper the Danes look inexperienced but seem to be able to pull it all together, and rise to the occassion.

Considering the tracks being used I think we have our best ever chance. Although there's no great home advantage, as most of the riders ride over here full time, I think we have an edge. David is virtually unbeatable at Eastie, especially this year. Mark and Joe have plenty of experience there, and Scott rides well on any track. Deano is always an option. He rode there for many years, and knows the lines. Lee may struggle badly on the tight turns. I genuinely believe we can win there.

At Poole, if we're there, we have Mark, Scott, and Lee as ex-riders, David is flying everywhere, and Joe seems to have suddenly found some form. Despite the typical British attitude towards sport we do have a good chance this year. (and at 5/1 I'll have a couple of quid)

Give us a bit of dirt though please. Our riders are not the sharpest or most consistant gaters, but boy can they race. Poole in particular has to have some dirt on it for us to stand a chance though. If it's slick then I fancy the fast starting Danes to do something a bit special. Hard to believe that Nicki is probably the oldest, and most experienced, rider in the Danes team, at 26?

Win or Lose I'll be cheering on TEAM GB :approve:

We got through to the finals last years theres nothing in theory stopping us doing it again this year. This is going to be my first WTC ever, hoping I'm going to bring a bit of luck with me.
