Star Lady
You're at it again Steve, don't forget the beautiful scenery of the Peak District is just a stones throw from Sheffield, Doubt Steve would think the scenery of the Peak District was worth anything.....it's free Having just come back from a week there, I know where I would rather be and that's Sheffield, Dovedale, Monsal Head et al. You can stuff the bars and expensive shops in Poole where the sun don't shine
Guest martyn_k11
should have been in the midlands easier to get to and in a central location. lovely big stadium at cov and peterborough they would have been perfect venues. then again they only went to poole and eastbourne so it looked like there was a big crowd in there poxy little stadiums. but they will learn and have it at decent tracks next time its in england
Steve Shovlar
There was an amazing 5 pages of speedway in Saturdays Bournemouth Echo! Well done to the Echo for doing such a brilliant spread. It had interviews, pictures, complete rider profiles and pictures of every rider taking part, and great interviews with Middlo, Olsen and Matt Ford. Could'nt beleive just how much coverage the paper gave to the event! Interesting to read what Matt Ford said about the prices. He said when you consider that Wimbledon rode in the Conference leage last week and it cost £11 to watch it, with no stars and only 15 heats, how is watching a World Cup Final with all the worlds top stars expensive for only £25, when you also get a further 10 heats? He said there will be tickets available on the day to the playoff and the final, so if you are thinking of coming to support Team GB, your country needs you cheering them on at the stadium, not sitting at home where your shouting will not be heard. COME ON TEAM GB!
SCB
Someone should tell Matt Ford that the SWC final is in Poole not Wimbeldon and Wimbeldon is the biggest rip off in speedway, so don't go comparing with them.
KevH
Sheffield to Peterborough is roughly the same distance Poole is from Eastbourne. Who are you trying to kid?
SuzieQ
The Official Poole site has a couple of pictures of the temporary seating going up at Poole on the 3rd/4th bends (scroll down the homapage and then click on the images for larger shots). Looks quite good - from what I've heard the stands going up on the 1st and 2nd bends will be bigger still and are due up in the next day or so. Well, judging by these pictures I can't see many people complaining of not being able to see the racing! Still not sure where I will be once I have finished selling programmes mind! Steve Shovlar
Sheffield to Peterborough is roughly the same distance Poole is from Eastbourne. Who are you trying to kid? Yes you are right. Peterbourough is only 90 miles from Sheffield, while Poole is 117 from Eastbourne, making this years meetings more spread out.

I think the problem will be for those of us who are standing - it doesnt look good for them and I am now beginning to worry as to where I will be standing
Guest richtea78
What they dont show on the Poole website at the moment is turn 2 stand as well Turn 2 I found this completly by accident while playing with the file names. I dont know why they dont show it as it shows a lot of standing room and might create a better impression
rabbit
Expect those pics will go up today Richtea. As for worrying about the standing having seen where those stands are on the 3rd/4th turns, there is still plenty of standing space with pretty much the whole of the 4th turn free and like you said loads of space on the 1st bend. crazysue
What ever my reservations and horror at paying those ticket prices, I am actually really looking forward to this now, and that picture of the 1st bend does put my mind at ease a little......now all we have to do is decide what time to leave here on Saturday morning......and hope that Team GB make it to the final. SNoB147
I have a ticket that says Grandstand *d* block b can anyone tell me where i'm sitting ? Also is there any truth that the GB team will be on a boat on Friday for the fireworks (just a rumour I heard) Great performance tonight and good luck for the final
FlyinRyan
Plain stupid holding it at a 'stadium' that has such minimal facilities. The whole idea was to run these meetings at smaller stadiums, to get an excited crowd create a party atmosphere. Rather large queues and packed terraces than a Sky camera panning around a grandstand with many empty seats. For once I actually agree with Steve, a bigger crowd will look good on TV. However, Poole is not the place to hold it and an awful lot of first timers to Poole (especially those with standing tickets) are going to be mightily hacked off when they get there and find their vantage points are truly awful. These people won't be keen to go again to the SWC, making it harder to get a crowd next time. They should have held the final at Peterborough like they did last time, everyone got a great view albeit a little wet if they weren't in the grandstand. FlyinRyan
Sheffield to Peterborough is roughly the same distance Poole is from Eastbourne. Why on earth go to such dismal places when the event can be held in nice places like Poole and Estbourne? Why don't you just go ahead and insult several thousand people Steve. You are so unbelievably arrogant.
Steve Shovlar
Ok I went down to Poole yesterday morning. First of all I spoke to Mike Golding and he said he has a few tickets left for the grandstand, just in front of the starting gate. Benfield do not have any grandstand tickets left. If you want one you will have to contact the speedway office and collect them I guess. Now I took a couple of pics of the new grandstands and they look great. They were building the stand on the first bend at the time I took the pics. I guess there will be standing on the forth bend and along the main straight in front of the grandstand. I suggest that fans with standing tickets get there extremely early as viewing will be limited. I would guess that if there are empty stand seats and there is a crush for standing, fans could be allowed into the empty seats, buut that's only my speculation. With GB now through to the final, the place will be completely full.
shazzybird
It's certainly looking good down at Poole can't wait to get there
crazysue
When you say to arrive early Steve, what sort of time do you have in mind. We are trying to work out what time to leave here on Saturday morning (although we are also looking at doing part of the drive on the Friday night and staying at services on the M3). Although I can't see my lot being able to cope with standing still for hours on end (I would be forced to break my promise to Tabby3 and get drunk to put up with it)....maybe I should have the gone the disabled ticket route. Steve Shovlar
Well if you are standing I would suggest you are there at 4 pm. The gates open at 5 and I can see very long queues snaking around the car park and up the road by then. I don't have an answer for the long time standing I am afraid. Perhaps it might be worth investing in those small "tripod" fold up chairs that cost about a fiver. Certainly normal fold up chairs will no be allowed inside the stadium. It might be worth bring a small box to sit on then stand on for a better view when racing starts. Just hope these thunderstorms have cleared away by Saturday and its good weather!
