Guest Sir Lunchalot
Very provisional !!!! Rumour has it that Labrador (Gold Coast) have opted out but the last "unofficial" list I saw was Wed 29th December - Gosford (NSW) Sat 1st January - Labrador (Qld) Wed 5th January - Gillman (SA) Sat 8th January - Mildura (Vic) If I was a rider I would be a bit miffed having to get from the Gold Coast to Gillman and get ready to race in four days as it's the best part of a two day drive. You are in Melbourne aren't you ? Check out http://www.ssrav.org.au/index.htm and pop up to Broadford and say hello once the season gets going in October. BrizHeathen
Any idea why Labrador pulled out Lunchy? Costs being a factor no doubt. Shame if true it was a good night last time and nice to put faces to a few names.
Guest Sir Lunchalot
Unconfirmed that Labrador has officially pulled out but certainly costs are an issue. In fact in subsequently reading an article from a speedway newsletter I get it says "a very strong rumour going around is that two of the clubs that had put up their hands to hold a round of the Australian Solo Championship have pulled the pin". I would be guessing at the other one. Must admit I enjoyed meeting "the lads" in the back row of the stand at Labrador and it was very good to put faces to names. The funny thing was I kept bumping into one or two of them for the rest of the summer !!
Ozyace
I have just e-mailed Rod Colqhoun with our query fellas, hope to get an answer shortly. No matter what i'll be there, well Mildura and Gosford for sure.
Ozyace
Okey dokey - more rumours' Gosford - Dec 29 NEWCASTLE - Jan 1 Gillman - Jan 5 Mildura - Jan 8 Although still a bit up in the air it makes a lot more sense for not only the riders and mechanics but for the fans aswell. I'm all in favour of the above dates even if i have to miss the Perth Cup. Hope to see as many forumer's again. Lunchy can you email me please. Stats
Latest News! A meeting in Adelaide with the Commission, Promoters and MA today confirmed the dates for the Australian Solo Speedway Championships. Gosford – 29th December, 2004 Newcastle – 1st January, 2005 Gillman – 5th January 2005 Mildura – 8th January 2005 The meeting was to discuss the running of the event and included discussions on Sponsorship, TV coverage, prize money, posters and programming from the Tracks point of view. Other issues include, the riders, promotion by the riders, dirt deflectors, travel and freight of machinery. “It was a positive meeting about lifting the profile of our sport and I think we are slowly getting there” said Gillman’s representative Dave Parker.“ ”There is a vast improvement over last year for the riders already, with the four meetings over in a short space of time, and MA have a few other carrots to get our best riders to compete again this year”. The next step by MA will be to secure riders for the Title and give the tracks some idea on who will compete. (who knows, we may see the World number 1 & 2 racing this year in Australia)
BrizHeathen
As expected no Queensland Round which is unfortunate. However good to see just a couple of days between the rounds in NSW and down South (SA/Vic). A couple of worthwhile trips in the making. Guest Sir Lunchalot
Indeed BrizHeathen. If I can manage it I will be doing the Gosford round, staying up that way till the Saturday for the Newcastle round, back home on the Sunday, very quick visit over to Adelaide leaving late on the Wednesday afternoon for the Gillman round and back home on the last plane, then up to Mildura on the Saturday. I am told the Newcastle venue is an excellent one and am looking forward to seeing it in operation. See you there ?
poona
G'day fellas, good to hear the venues & dates are confirmed. I'm looking forward to another road trip south but I havn't been to gilmore, if anyone could help me out with any accomadation details not too far from the track (& the tracks address) I'd be rapt. Hope to catch up & put a few away with you fellas.
Guest Sir Lunchalot
Poona, the address of the track is Heini Becker Park, Wilkins Rd, Gillman. Click on the link http://www.arta.com.au/samaps/adelaide/adkey20.html and click on map Q7 for the detail. It's about the only thing on the north side of Wilkins Rd. It's right out in the northern suburbs near the port and as for local accomodation I have no idea !! At this stage I plan to make a flying visit but during the meeting I would be available for a quick one. As an aside it will be interesting to see how Gillman copes with a round of the Oz titles, it has no permanent grandstands but has a huge dirt bank all the way round the track which gives pretty good viewing but I've only seen it with smaller crowds. I have to say though that the parking and vehicle access inside the track grounds itself at Gillman is nothing short of awful, although there would be plenty of overflow parking available on the street outside. I'm working in the Middle East until mid September. I'd certainly like to do at least one speedway trip during the summer though, possibly the Southern rounds due to my Mrs not being too happy with me being away during the New Year and an earlier non speedway trip to Sydney on my return to OZ.
