Swedish Championship Final

at Målilla (home of Luxo Stars)

Saturday July 3rd 2004

Attendence: 5127

*-*-*

1 [59.6]: Klingberg, Lindgren, M Karlsson, Jansson.

Some battle between Jansson and Karlsson, otherwise not much action.

2 [59.9]: Aldén, Zetterström, S Andersson, E Andersson.

Splendid first lap by Aldén from gate four. He passed both Zetterström and

Andersson on the outside, the former on bend two and the latter on bend three.

3 [59.4]: Ruud, Davidsson, Nahlin, Ekberg.

Ruud untroubled. Nahlin chased Davidsson to no use.

4 [59.6]: Lindbäck, Johansson, Sedelius (Fn), T Ljung (Fx).

Ljung locked-up on the third bend of lap one, Sedelius came from the back but

was able to avoid Ljung but rode heavily into the fence. Sedelius eventually

came to his feet but retired from the meeting with neck pains.

5 [60.1]: M Karlsson, Nahlin, E Andersson (ELIM), T Ljung (ELIM).

No question about the eliminations here, Andersson and Ljung way back.

6 [60.4]: S Andersson, Jansson, Ekberg (ELIM), Sedelius (N) (ELIM).

Not much drama in this one.

7 [59.8]: Zetterström, Klingberg, Ruud, Johansson.

Klingberg took Ruud wide on the first bends, leaving him to third. Klingberg

were headed for the win but Zetterström swooped the boards for the outside pass

on bend four of lap three.

8 [59.5]: Lindbäck, Lindgren, Davidsson, Aldén.

Lindbäck jumped at the gate so it was called back due to an unsatifactory start.

Re-run from the gate in this heat which included the top four from the U21 final

yesterday.

9 [59.1]: Ruud, Aldén, M Karlsson, Jansson (ELIM).

From the gate.

10 [59.8]: Davidsson, Johansson, S Andersson, Nahlin (ELIM).

Davidsson all the way. Nahlin chased Johansson hard for second but almost rode

into his backwheel and he had to drift wide on lap three, giving Andersson room

for a pass on the inside. Nahlin then tried everything he got but couldn´t avoid

elimination.

--- SWEET SIXTEEN ---

11 [58.5]: Lindbäck, Klingberg, S Andersson, Dannö.

Lindbäck way ahead. Dannö from second to fourth, obviously lacked speed.

12 [58.8]: Rickardsson, Zetterström, M Karlsson, Lindgren.

Biggest fight was for third place but Karlsson kept his head cool and stuck to

the inside to keep Lindgren at the back.

13 [59.5]: Jonsson, P Karlsson, Ruud, Johansson.

Tapes to flag.

14 [60.2]: Max, Aldén, Davidsson, P Ljung (Fx).

Ljung locked-up on bend two, giving Davidsson little room to avoid a collision.

Davidsson suffered most from the crash, injuring his hip and possibly got a mild

concussion since he couldn´t remember which gate he should have in the re-run,

seemed strange anyway.

Easy win for Max in the re-run.

15 [59.0]: Ruud, P Ljung, Lindgren (ELIM), S Andersson (ELIM).

From the gate.

16 [60.0]: Dannö, M Karlsson, Johansson (ELIM), Davidsson (N) (ELIM).

Dannö and Karlsson avoided elimination without much problems, Johansson way off.

17 [59.9]: Lindbäck, Jonsson, Zetterström, Aldén.

Jonsson chased Lindbäck but couldn´t get close enough for a pass.

18 [59.1]: Rickardsson, Max, P Karlsson, Klingberg.

Max put some pressure on Rickardsson on lap one before Rickardsson pulled away

for a huge win.

19 [58.9]: Zetterström, Klingberg, Ruud (ELIM), M Karlsson (ELIM).

Ruud looked good from the gate but went too wide for the grip on bend two so

Klingberg could sneak up on the inside to join Zetterström to the semifinals.

20 [59.5]: P Karlsson, Dannö, P Ljung (ELIM), Aldén (Ef) (ELIM).

Aldén in the backwheel of Dannö for almost three laps before suffering an engine

failure when third.

--- FINALS ---

Semifinal 1 [59.9]: Lindbäck, Max, Zetterström, Dannö.

Max gated but Lindbäck hunted him down and passed him on the inside on bend

three of lap three, Zetterström had some contact for second for a couple of laps

but Dannö wasn´t in it.

Semifinal 2 [59.4]: Rickardsson, Jonsson, P Karlsson, Klingberg.

Rickardsson from the tapes. Jonsson took Klingberg very, very wide on bend two,

leaving him by the fence. Jonsson managed to keep second despite Karlsson trying

the inside line on the first lap, Jonsson then pulled away from Karlsson leaving

him to third.

Final [58.3]: Rickardsson, Lindbäck, Max, Jonsson.

Lindbäck gated from the inside but Rickardsson passed him down the backstraight

of lap one, Lindbäck tried his best to regain the lead but Rickardsson was

simply outstanding today, winning the final in the fastest time of the day!

Jonsson closed in on Max but was half a meter short at the line.

A cloudy day in Målilla, with one small shower, couldn´t ruin the Swedish

championship final. Over five thousand watch Tony Rickardsson take back the

crown from Stefan Dannö who really wasn´t close to defending his title, as

expected though.

Antonio Lindbäck came second for the second day in a row, finishing second in

the junior chamionship on Friday as well. Lindbäck was mighty impressive and

must have secured a place in the starting line-up for the Swedish WTC team in

August.

Mikael Max took his seventh straight podium finish, without ever winning the

title. Tough break.

Aspegren of VMS Elit came back from the dead with a horrible start to the

Where was Daniel Davidsson?

He was missingfrom the Poole team at Oxford on Friday and should have been riding in this meeting - has anyone got any info?

The Swedish U21 Final was held on Friday, he rode in that meeting (finishing fifth) but he didn´t participate in the qualifying rounds for the senior championship, therefore not riding on Saturday.
