Channel 4 GP Coverage, Sunday 4th July

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys, I know there's a post somewhere detailing when each GP will be shown on Channel 4, but I just cant find it. Ever since Cardiff I've been keeping an eye on the tv schedules for channel 4's coverage of the British G.P. and every week its been World Rally or Cricket or Friends repeats.

But this Sunday it lists Speedway Grand Prix, I thought it finally might be the Cardiff coverage, but according to the TV guide in Nuts magazine its actually the highlights from Parken :o

Can anybody let me know whether this weekends highlights are from Cardiff or Parken and, if the Cardiff highlights have been shown, when were they?

Thanks and my apologies again.

I'm afraid you have missed the Cardiff one because as Nevsy has said it was shown at the unearthly hour of 3.45am on June 23rd. This week's coverage is the Danish G.P.

Looks like Channel 4 have just about given up on Speedway as at one time they used to show the highlights at 11am on the Saturday following a G.P. with a repeat during the week. Now they've got rid of the best presenter - Julia Bradbury - and the sport is relegated to either 7am or the middle of the night.

Subject to change......

GP3 Wroclaw....Sunday 6th June at 7.30am.

GP4 Cardiff....23rd June at 3.45am.

GP5 Copenhagen....Sunday 4th July at 7am.

GP6 Gothenburg....Sunday 29th August at 7.30am.

GP7 Krsko....Sunday 12th September at 7am.

GP8 Bydgoszcz....Sunday 26th September at 7.30am.

GP9 Hamar....Sunday 10th October at 7.am.

All I can say is thats a downright disgrace, 3.45AM?

If only the Beeb would buy the rights to it, at least then there'd be the chance of it being shown on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Channel 4 are only interested in a bunch of idiots locked in a house 24/7, that and yet more repeats of Friends

Same as me Liontamer. I don't normally know when it's on, but caught one accidentally in the middle of the night and it's not half as entertaining without her. She was a really good presenter and had a good rapport with the riders. I saw her presenting some car racing the other day. Be interesting to know if they see this as a step up or a step down in her career!

I enjoyed last years coverage of the GPs by Channel 4, but this year, without Julia Bradbury they are boring & seem to be scheduled all over the place, so I haven't bothered.

Nor me. I always used to record these to keep because they were a bit different to the Sky broadcasts, but I don't even bother watching any more after seeing the first one.

Channel 4 GP programme is repeated on Thurs night / Friday morning at 3.35am.

Definitely not so good without the lovely Julia though...

I agree, the coverage is a whole lot poorer thanks to Julia's absence, for somebody who had never seen speedway before she presented the show with enthusiasm and plenty of personality, as well as striking up a seemingly brilliant rapport with the riders, some more than others, not mentioning any names Mr.Sullivan

I'm not a complete expert in this area, but it strikes me that Channel 4 use speedway merely as a way of proving that they are servicing minorities to OfCom (or whoever it is that governs them these days).

I expect the ratings are not great, because essentially its a repeat (SKY has already shown the GP) and the scheduling means it is on incredibly early and not even in a regular slot.

I don't think C4 have given it a real opportunity. I think they should at least give it a go on Saturday afternoons or a 6pm midweek slot.

BTW - I too thought Julia Bradbury was great B)
