keepturningleft
I noticed that after Pederson crashed out in the semi's, messrs Tatum and Millard apparently didn't know exactly what had happened to him. They seemed to respond only to the same pictures we were seeing. If they were really commentating from a position in the stadium, clearly they would have seen what happend. Does this mean that the commentators are not really there in the stadium as we are led to believe, but are in fact tucked away in a studio in London somewhere? Lioness
Did someone not giev it away last year that they were in fact merely in another studio in the UK? Might be my mind playing tricks on me again but I seem to remember something about it
Rico
The commentators as far as I am aware are never at any of the GPs outside the UK. The commentary is done in a room at the Sky Sports studio in Teddington. This usually results in passes and incidents going un-noticed if missed on the live cameras. Worst recent one springing to mind was Walasek at Wroclaw - they had to wait until the replay before realising that he had hit the airfence after the race. Clearly it is not considered worth the expense of sending Mr Millard and his partner in crime abroad. Rico
The Grim Reaper
So you see, it isn't Arfur's fault that he gets things wrong now & again. Anyway, people have been saying he's not all there for a long time.
maggie
SO Tony Millard, not really there................................!
SCB
Sometimes he gets things wrong for not being there but saying Oh and rider X has justed passed Rider A when we can all see it's rider Y passing rider A, Millard has no excuses then. He's done quite well tonight though on the Swindon vs Peterborough meeting.
strongbad
It's sometimes the case that the co-commentator has a meeting to get to, and therefore probably wouldn't be able to fly out to the GPs. I remember one such occasion when Kelvin Tatum was in the commentary box, having ridden earlier that day in a meeting himself, and so wouldn't have had time to fly out. A sure fire indication that the commentators stay well and truly in the country. Edited June 29, 2004 by strongbad
GeneralMelchett
I think you'll find that in most sports commentry is studio based and unless the meeting is a premiership match or based locally. The British GP is obviosuly live in house but the others are in the studio. All you have to do is watch football highlights to appreciate that the BBC or Sky or ITV wouldn't and couldn't afford to send commentry teams to 46 football matches EVERY week! yet they all have commentry on the highlights the Italia football prgramme ex channel 4 and now on Europsort was ALWAYS studio based commentry with the lucky James Richardson swanning it around Italian Cities for the programme I remember a few years ago on the BBC FA Cup highlights somebody doing the commentry fluffed their lines and a "oh ######" was clearly heard
Adder
Half the time the commentary on the Elite League matches seem to based onlooking at the pictures only as well. I assumed that Muppet Millard and his sidekick were sat in the Sky Sports production van out the back with the programme director.

It seems as though most of the time, Muppet Millard is at another track watching another meeting!
Gemini
Half the time the commentary on the Elite League matches seem to based onlooking at the pictures only as well. Makes sense doesn't it that they should be commentating on what we are actually seeing on the screen? Makes Tony's mistakes seem even more pathetic though.
