Dave the Mic
What a fantastic story! Welcome to the wonderful world of speedway Warleyone, I am so pleased for you that you made the trip to Cardiff & that you & your good lady had the time of your lives! As you have probably guessed from the threads on this forum, most people who went did so too! Whichever of the tracks mentioned in this thread you choose to visit, you will find that, by and large, speedway fans up & down the country are the best sports fans there are. Wherever you go, you will make friends as speedway folka are always willing to "chew the fat" & if you are ever stuck for info or need some help on something, someone nearby will be only too happy to help. I have been lucky enough to travel the length & breadth of the country (& Europe too) watching this great sport of ours & have never been short of people to talk to at the various tracks I have visited, whether cheering on the home side, or the opposition. If you ever get to Somerset - which is a great race track - even if the facilities are pretty spartan, let me know! Your point about the sport becoming addictive is pretty much on the money too! Hope you have a healthy bank balance! Edited June 15, 2004 by Dave the Mic
Dave the Mic
By the way, if you are over in East Anglia, there are also tracks @ Ipswich (Elite League) & Mildenhall (Conference) too. Wherever you go, enjoy!
Guest Warleyone
But not nearly as much £££££££££'s as following a football club and by the look of things far more fun
KevH
But maybe you should just go along to all the tracks you mentioned and see where you like the best? How's that for diplomacy?! Or confidence.
Tigerblade
Hi Warleyone, welcome to the forum and also the world of speedway. I'm glad you had a great time, if you do go to any more places you'll have to come back on and tell us all about it. If you are ever in Sheffield on a Thursday night, come and see the Tigers! ------ Slightly off the topic, Woody-the-bee touched on the matter of publicity, I worked on a campaign group when my team, Sheffield, were closed in 1989 and 1990 and one of the biggest problems we encountered was getting decent publicity. As one of the other committee members said at the time "you can send 'em as much as you want, but you can't make 'em print it!"

Malcolm
but did speedway get a mention? NO! The BBC may be a let down in general, for me though they came through. The Oxford Speedway site commentary was excellent and I listened to it on internet radio here in California. http://www.bbc.co.uk/oxford/features/360/speedway.shtml Did Motor Cycle News give the event any coverage? Greg is front page here in Cycle News. Cycle News does a really good job covering U.S. Speedway and the GP's. http://cyclenews.com Cheers, Malcolm http://xtremesport.org

Gemini
If you get to Coventry don't forget to have a chat with the forum group on the 3rd/4th bend, plus their mascot jammed underneath the chair. And please don't pick between July 10th and 24th because Summit, Pawprint and I will be away.
Guest bikermel76
We saw the GP at Cardiff early one morning on C4 last year, quite by accident. Kept meaning to go along to Wolves and finally did at the start of May - had a great night! Then made the decision to go to the GP for ourselves - WOOHOO! It was ace - also great that when we got back to the hotel in Bristol (Cardiff fully booked by the time we decided - only an hour by bike though - we were parked directly opposite the stadium - you can't beat a bike!!!)and stuck the TV on to find them giving the results! Fanatastic night, shame Mikael Max went almost straight out Never seen such an up-for-it crowd (serves me right for supporting Walsall I suppose )
Hazzman
Im in a very similar sitaution to the Warley One. Being goign Cardiff for two years in a row yet never a normal meeting. I live in the Midlands, Im hoping to try all the midlnads clubs. Hopefully with the gang theres about 10 of us from Leicester and 3 from Mildenhall. (Driving to Leicester to get Mini-Bus). We might go Poole in August and I know the prices are expensive. Thats why we are camping in Dorset instead. In my second year for Cardiff, we brought my brothers mate. He couldnt belive the adrealine rush gave you in Cardiff. After this year, when England lost to France in footy. I werent bothered I already had a brilliant weekend in Cardiff. Still on a high. I know all the celebrities within Speedway and the personalities. I watch all of the Gps and most of the Monday night elite league. Over the summer hopefully I will be going: Sheffield, Wolverhampton, Peterborough (I wanna see Havvy round there), Oxford, Swindon, possibly Stoke and hopefully Poole.
