Presenter
Just to congratulate Sam Ermolenko for his performance at Cardiff tonight....making his debut as a stadium announcer and at such a huge event he played a blinder....and got his just reward by having Greg the winner....A great night for the Stars and Stripes..... SCB
He did a very good job, I though he was quite a natural at it. He didn't jabber on but he kept people informed and seemed excited without going OTT.
Guest JY2003
Yeh, he did a great job.
Steve Shovlar
I thout Sam was OK but he really messed up the rider intros. the riders didn't know when to walk and the way he announced it was flat. "The nest rider is Mark Loram blah blah blah (couldn't hear what he was sayng because of airhorns) blah blah...Loram" He should have said "The last British world champ and a rider who loves to battle through from the back. On great form at the moment and ready to set the stadium alight...the one and only MARK LORAM!" (now the airhorns go mad and Loram walks. It's very easy to say "should have said this, should have done that". Not so easy to stand in front of 40,00 people with a mic in hand. Sam you were brilliant. Star Lady
I'm gonna have to agree with Steve on this one. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a complete novice at stadium announcing in sole charge needs seeing to. No offence to Sam, who on Sky does a great job (not my taste but most people like him) However at Cardiff I was so so frustrated, not using a programme, he got the results of the previous heats and commentary of such mixed up with the line ups for the next heat. I had no idea most of the time who was in the heat until thankfully it came up on the big screen. As for the introductions, Steve is spot on, the name of the rider should have been the last 2 words of the intro. I'm not knocking Sam here, just the fool who decided to get him to do the OFFICIAL results announcing and the commentary. Had he just done the commentary fine but sorry we needed a Bryn William/Edwin Overland.....even Nigel Pearson to give us the vital information in a cool calm manner. That's my view anyway. One more think Sam, he is definitely not MY Leigh Richardson
fatface
I wouldn't like to say anything bad about a legend like Sam. So I think I'll just bite my tongue for this topic.
Mark Evans
He should have said "The last British world champ and a rider who loves to battle through from the back. On great form at the moment and ready to set the stadium alight...the one and only MARK LORAM!" (now the airhorns go mad and Loram walks. Correct Mr Shovlar

Concrete Cowboy
I must admit, i thought it strange that Sam said the riders name and then continued to talk about them when it was obvious the Airhorns would drown him out, however that's my only real criticism, not a bad 1st attempt and i'm sure if he gets the chance again next year he will have learned a lot from last night. Dave the Mic
I know Steve gets a lot of grief on this forum But he has it spot on in my opinion.
Lanzilla
I thought the same as Steve and couldn't figure why Sam didn't do the build up first and then the rider's name. Sam did a great job but the intro was ruined by being back to front. Fair and constructive criticism, which i'm sure Sam will put right if he gets the gig next year. lupus
I can only agree that Sam got the rider intros all wrong - but shouldn't someone have briefed him about this before hand?! I notice that he did it RIGHT on the rostrum announcements.........................blah, blah, blah Greg Hancock etc, so perhaps someone told him before then! Obviously I'm biased where Sam is conceerned, but I think he did a pretty good job! He did a good job of getting the crowd behind the riders - especially the Brits - and I liked the way he gave an 'after the race' view of what had occured whilst the rerun was showed on the big screens! I had to laugh at how he described the Brits as 'YOUR Mark Loram, YOUR Lee Richardson etc'!!!!!!!
Chivs
Thought Sam did ok, but im with Shovlar on this one, the presentations were awful.
Guest richtea78
I agree with Steve as well but as Star Lady said its not his fault as he shouldnt have been given the job really, it was just a sop to the fans. IMO I think Kevin Coombes the Eastbourne announcer would have done a better job - ask the Poole fans as they seem to think he does a good job as well. In fact Im sure there are lots of good experiended announcers they could have used.

Standing in front of 40000 people + t.v cameras at cardiff and standing in front of a few hundred peole at Arlington is just a touch more daunting I would say. SCB
Kevin Coombes (he did Brighton?) is good. I liked Sam but I was not listenging to him for heat result, I work that out myself(or ask the official program filler in, Robbo). As I said, he got us all (to use a speedway term) "pumped up". Prehaps he does not a side kick or even needs to be the side kick and Kevin Coombed might be the guy to do it.
Robbo
'The Official Programme Filler In'. Propa bo that quite like it.Shame the p*** heads kept spilling beer over the scorecard eh .
SW17 Racer
Like him, but tried to hard, and having heard Nigel Pearsons commentary today, would rather he did it.
