How was your GP day??

Recommended Posts

Fiveone and I arrived in Cardiff yesterday at about 12:30. We had a wonder around the town for a bit, as we had to pick up a few things. When I came out of the toilet I saw Rabbit chatting to my dad, which was cool. She was then heading off to Sams Bar. So we headed in that direction shortly after. I met up with loads of forum members which I hadn't met, and some of the members I had met previously. It was great! Cheers to the people who bought me a drink. It was really nice of you.

After a while Fiveone, Matt and I went to get something to eat before looking at the merchandise stands. Soon after that, we headed back to the POW where we met more forum members and the ones from Sams Bar. Although I can hardly remember it that much... icon_smile_blush.gif

The GP was great. The atmosphere was fantastic and I loved it. I didn't expect Greg to win, but good on him. B) . Well deserved.

Edward Kennet was sat about a row below us, waving his arms around in the air and cheering for particular riders.

So yeah, a great day out. prplbiggrin.gif

Nice meeting up with you guys off the forum, you're a great bunch.

I hope I didn't get any pictures taken!

First ever GP...and loved it! atmosphere was amazing. We left at 10:30 and got to cardiff at about 1. After spending a good hour of trying to find the park and ride, we finally got to the stadium.

Welldone greg on winning it.

After getting lost on the way back we got well aquainted with the M4 to swindon  managing to turn round at salisbury.

Still great night though!

Me, girlfriend, mum, dad, cousin, girlfriend rolled in on Friday. Stayed at the Thistle hotel, enjoyed a few bevvies out on Friday. Saturday shopped a bit and went and browsed the speedway collectors fair. Met Crump, Rickardson, Pedersen outside were they were signing autographs (is there any other sport where this would happen?) Then the main event............WOW!

What a superb evening's entertainment and the best Cardiff experience yet. Fair enough, at £40, it's not cheap, but it was worth every penny. For 3 and a half hours it was absolutely rivetting stuff. The atmosphere was superb, the stadium looked great, the fans waved thousands of flags and tooted thousands of horns. (Even now it gives me goosebumps just typing this!)

The racing was brilliant and the presentation was superb. Loved the "grease lightning" firework show at the climax, what did others think? BSI get some grief at times from people on here, but my god, this puts memories of Bradford, Norden, Vojens well in the shade. Speedway has moved on, thank god for that!

The day didn't start off as I had hoped, had a raging headache when I woke up, and then the thought of driving from London to Cardiff sent me back to sleep again!

Eventually got going at 11am, round about the time I originally wanted to get there.

Drove straight to the Bay area picking up a few Dons stragglers on the way and had a rather nice pub lunch…yeap I was there by 1pm.

Got to the Prince of Wales at 4pm but spent half an hour trying to find someone I recognised, then out of the blue I spotted London Witch who then had the honour of introducing me to so many forum peeps.

The highlight of the day was walking up to pammie, who was trying to focus on who I was, then the look on her face and the scream when she realised it was me.

Hooked up with shazzybird Joanne and addy and strolled off to the Stadium.

Once there….my god is all I can say, the whole evening was one big spectacle, from Tony Hadley (so true!) right through to the fireworks and Steve Turner’s face at the end (that was priceless  ).

Just amazing, the best British GP yet, but all you lot just made it for me too, and to think I nearly didn’t get there. B)

Now lets get one thing straight. I believe Dave Norris (I remember being a near lone voice supporter when he was picked for last years SWC) is some kind of superstar. I support Eastbourne and Dave really and have done since my first meeting just 2 years ago. So it clouds my judgement I admit, but for me he stole the whole show. When he won heat 2 I thought the roof would come off, when he beat Rickardsson I think it probably did.

Just wait till you hear the commentary when Norris beat Rickardsson.Nigel Pearson was going beserk , so much he sounded just like a Dalek :o Agreed though David Norris was a Hero last night.

Very bizarre weekend. Arrived friday evening nice meal / drinks with friends etc.

Spent most of saturday shopping at some Tesco superstore for such luxury items as sea salt and canned tomatoes. Back to hotel knackered and total dewildered, then made strange decision to sail from Mermaid Quay to City Quay , which is right next to the stadium. Skipper didn't tell us that we would be sailing to every port in Wales to pick up passengers/cargoes of bute, silks, spices etc. Dis embarked at City Quay & got into Stadium just as some fat, sweaty bloke was belting out "Delilah", glad I missed that. Had great seats on turn 1 until heat 12 then decided to visit friend's hospitality box and get well and truely hopitalised.

Returned to hotel on boat (strangely without picking upcontraband cargo or illegal immigrants), staight into bar for more hopitalisation and great banter with some Aces fans.

Best Cardiff G.P so far without a doubt. Decent track, great racing and the good guys winning. Not to mention hearing great news about Matej and Kasper returning to the fold.

Back home Sunday for diner of salt and tinned tomatoes.

Oh yes, bumped into Johnno at stadium, he appeared to be wearing swimwear or something??Bizarre.

Set of from sunny Wycombe about 830 yesterday, drove down with Cute Welshy arriving in Wales (Glynneath) about 1115. Got the bus then train into Cardiff arriving around 230ish. Had a little wander around Cardiff before spottin Gemini, Summit & Pawprint of which I introduced to Cute Welshy. Nice to meet you again Gem & Co. We made our way to the POW about 4ish where we sat upstairs having a quiet drink  before taking a slow walk towards the stadium & meetin up with the family after they had arived on the Oxford Coach. Shame we didn't get to meet a few fellow/fellowess websliders tho'

The racing was great, atmosphere superb. Shame the speakers wasn't up to much on the 4th bend,

Was great to see Greg win it with Leigh 2nd. The Brit boys all put up a great show, got a bit of a sore throat from all the cheering of the lads.

Cute Welshy and I made our way back to the station for our train back to Neath where we stayed with her Gran.

Left there about 9ish and got back here about 1200ish.

All in all, a very good weekend, thoroughly enjoyed my 10th Brit GP, :approve: roll on 2005........................... :approve:

My GP day was great when I seen Gollob beating dirty Pedersen fair and square even though Pedersen did try to put him into the air fence a few times.

I decided to go at the last minute and got to Yates' Wine Bar quite close to 5pm.

I didn't get to meet many new forum members which was a shame but someone was telling me they thought a61 was a bit of alright. ;)

I was on the third bend with my Pirate Flag and thought the GP was superb. The track was pretty good and i thought Norris was fantastic.

What a night!

ps. Thanks Martin Palmer for your hospitality.

My day in Cardiff was amazing! I'd never been before but I can say this we're going again next year! I went with my dad and Kirsty, dad wants to sit between the 1st and 2nd bend next year. This year we sat on the first tier on the first bend, underneath a swedish tony rickardsson flag by a couple of crazy Poles. We saw Ryan Fisher and Eric Carrillo. Met up with Laura Fisher, she was wearing a huge swedish flag with Andreas Jonsson on it, evwentually found her when i texted her and told her to hold her flag up. I'm so glad that Lee Richardson was on the rostrum, I think he really deserved that! And Greg Hancock winning was pretty amazing too! Had a very good time and I bought Billy Hamill's book and we went on the BOSS bus, made a couple of friends on there, also got a few old pictures. Kirsty and me are currently indecisive on who gets to have the signed Billy Hamill picture (we got it signed yesterday) because we both really want it and can't think of anyway to decide. Anyway, can't get over how amazing it was, didn't get home until about 3.30 in the morning!

Well, I had a good time at Cardiff, though I was disappointed that Chris Louis didn't win....

Met lots of old friends and found some new Forum members. Though I must have missed out on Nevsy somewhere. Why did no-one introduce us?

Same time next year, Fd?

In the meantime here are a few photos of that momentous occasion: Cardiff 2004

The video is better though x-rated because of Full Throttle's shameless performance in going topless which was (un)fortunately caught on camera.

It was cool to meet some more forum members at Sams Bar and I was well chuffed with the GP result :approve:.

I took some photos, I'll link them if they're any good when they're developed.
