Does anyone have the complete list of scores from the 1978 European under 21 final won by Finn Jensen in Lonigo??

The Speedway Star is pretty vague, their list of scorers consists of some names i've never heard of (J.Juza, O.Keirjk, B.Rjszild, H.Mananiv, K.Nieuzjsliw, A.Gigoli and J.Romin!!) .

I would be grateful if someone could post the individual scorechart for the meeting if poss.

Cheers

I can do the final points tally's but not individual score charts. Is that any help or do you already have that much?

Guest Sir Lunchalot

Kevin, I've never tried this but if you knew the riders race numbers they wore and they used the traditional 20 heat meeting how close do you think you could get to the heat details ?

It would be easy if the points finished 15,14,13,12,11, ....... etc down to 0 as you would know the top man didn't drop a point, second only dropped a point to the winner, third only dropped a point to the first two riders etc. There also has to be 20 heat winners, 20 second places, 20 thirds and 20 lasts. With the scores the way they were at this meeting (one on 13 and three on 12) it would make it a bit tricky but I reckon if I knew the riders numbers I could get it over 80% right if I fiddled about a bit and providing I stayed calm !!.

Its mind boggling to think that Finn beat a well decent field of riders with the likes of Jolly, Middles, Finch, Jankowski let alone two future world champs in Nielsen & Gundersen :blink::blink:

Bringing this back up to see if you still have this info please, Grachan? Several sources are saying Hans Nielsen finished on 11 and Henryk Olszak 5, but others are quoting 10, with Olszak ending on 6. This would make heat 15 the heat in question. I wondered if you (or anyone) can say definitively for my records?

On his day Finn was better than any of those (bar Erik and hand obviously ). Remember him coming to Hyde Rd in 84, a season where the aces were utterly dominant at home, and racking up a double digit score from reserve. I also remember some pretty rubbish displays!

Finch was always excellent around Hyde Rd and the shay - never saw him on the smaller tracks, assume he was a big track specialist?

But no saying this is the definitive answer.I know on speedway.org they have Nielsen on 10pts......

Wiki also has Hans finishing 5th on his profile,i see. Both Hans and the Lonigo club are on Facebook.Maybe contacting them will provide the answer, although I think the FIM should have all official results on their site,to stop any confusion as we have seen with the recent topic about the 1957 world final......

Yeah, but they seem to be using the article you quoted as their source for his position.

Speedway.org gives: HN 6, HO 6

The Bulgarian website agrees with 10 and 6, but looking at spelling comparisons it was probably taken from speedway.org

Speedweek.com agree with 10 and 6 also, and just to throw a wild card into the equation, Sportowefakty (Przemyslaw Jany) gives HN 11 and HO 6, which doesn't add up mathematically, so I think I can rule that one out. :P

I'm currently posting things all over the place for other results and not having much luck. As you say, it would be nice if there was an official site.

Edit: just looking at the 1979 results I can already see I'm going to have problems there too. That one seems to have even more inconsistencies than the others. So if anyone has an offer as to what the final scores were for the World U21 final in 1979 I'm putting in my plea now...

Thank you, andout, that looks much more like it. Given the SS's rider lineup I'm not convinced they were actually at the same meeting anyway! Quite worrying that out of all available sources not one has the meeting winner's score correct.

Thanks again. I don't suppose you have the 1979 final scores as well, do you (she asks cheekily but hopefully!) as there seem to be several discrepancies on that too?

Are you willing to accept Jensen's score of 14 and Gundersen's 10 at face value or do you have other results to back that up?

Download the file above again - I've added reports from the following weeks' Star that mention Jensen's 13 and Gundersen finishing 5th. The 1986 yearbook page is also attached at the back.
