  1. There were 88 on the back straight. I counted them during the tractor racing. Thankfully.
  2. That's about the time it goes, there's normally enough fuel in the engine for about two laps. He didn't make the gate so well, which on that track was all important. He was a lot faster than most riders, but couldn't get around them due to the single racing line available.
  3. It wasn't prepared well tonight. Was smooth, but not enough water. Entirely understandable, due to adverse weather possibility. Sometimes you can't prepare a good track for perfectly good reasons.
  4. Just got back. Was an interesting meeting that Workington developed an early lead which Newcastle threatened to overhaul, but never quite managed. Newcastle top 4 were very good. Despite it looking suspiciously like Lambert forgot to open his fuel in his first ride. What stood out was that in 11 rides, the Newcastle reserves failed to beat a Workington rider. No real overtaking after the first bend. Largely I think because the narrow straights mean there is only a single place to enter the bends. Which cannot be helped because of the rugby pitch. Travelling to and from tbe track, the Weather ranged from bright sunshine, high winds, rain and snow. Down to zero degrees at one point.
  5. True, although the way the sport is run is the issue. Last Newcastle away meeting - 2 guests This away meeting - 1 guest and 1 R/R In the middle of the season this can be possibly expected with injuries and the like, but for the first couple of matches I would hope that each team is full strength. Without wishing to take the thread (which admittedly I started) off track, the decision to allow riders to ride for two teams is just utter nonsense. It was done to try and paper over the cracks of the elite league not being able to offer mid to lower average'd riders enough meetings to make a living.
  6. Curse the internet and it's ever changing content. It makes fools of all of us!
  7. Thanks Steve - are we going to use R/R for Tero and get a guest for Kus? Only two days away, normally somebody else would have gotten here first
  8. I might make my way to this one, but it is a 300 mile round trip. Anybody got the team news? I don't want to go and watch a premier league select ride against Workington.
  9. Don't get to many matches, but saw an entertaining meeting. Not sure about the no 7's. Could be a lot of accidents caused by riders whose courage outweighs their skill or track craft.
  10. Have you ever thought about grammar or punctuation? All the statements you have made are blindingly obvious to anybody entering speedway as a sponsor / backer / promoter. Your opinion is clearly at odds with what brought Darly into the sport in the first place. But he has put his money where his mouth is and if he has decided to place his time elsewhere I for one, am happy to let him do so. I have spoken to Daryl personally and he was passionate about Newcastle, that is all I ask from a speedway promoter.
  11. So when do we get a result from the BSPA over Matej Kus then? Has anybody seen George with large brown envelopes in the recent past?
  12. Glue the barbed wire to the road whilst inserted inside aforementioned cat. It's going nowhere.
  13. The Northumbrians don't export their "barbed wire out of cat" music pieces. The Jocks send them everywhere. Northumbrian pipes are also not (thankfully) particularly numerous. I'm bored of all this Matej Kus nonsense and wanted to bring something really important into the debate.
  14. Sounds about right. Does anybody want a musical instrument that sounds like a cat having barbed wire pulled out of its backside? That'll be the Jocks then...
  15. Since Pakistan has only existed since 1947 I find that unlikely.
  16. I don't live in the NorthEast anymore, so get to very few meetings (the odd away meeting), but follow most of the matches on the excellent live service on the Newcastle Website. I've noticed that recently (i.e. the last five years or so), meetings take a lot longer than they used to back in around 2001 when I last went every week. Usually, back then the meeting started at 6:30 and would finish around 8:15 if there had not been an unusual number of hold-ups. Obviously sometimes it went on much later. I think this is down to track preparation. Back in time, the track was prepared for a fifteen heat meeting - was very wet at the start (gaters paradise) and then got better for the racing brigade as the meeting progressed. At the moment, the track is prepared as well as it can be, which is obviously designed to give better and more enjoyable racing, but does mean that the tractors are out re-doing the track every four heats. There was also no 'sun' breaks. Or meeting interval (who thought that would be a good idea?), so I suspect this is the main reason for the additional time, which to me is simply wasted time. Just my thoughts - your views may vary.
  17. Does that mean a rider getting onto a new bike because of mechanical problems with the original bike would be excluded?
  18. Josh definitely hit the fence. Your view being on ground level would have been obscured. When you say the best man won, I assume you mean the person who got the best gate in ht 23 won?
  19. So when you say nobody else saw it, you mean apart from the updates and the half dozen people on here who also saw it. Obviously. I was stood about five yards from the fence that he hit.
  20. Just to correct that statement - stead _did_ put Josh into the fence. I.e. there was contact.
  21. The foot rest got caught in the wheel, which is why both bikes stopped and they both fell off. Disgraceful scenes afterwards in the pits though. Where was stadium security?
  22. If you can't hit somebody over the head with a rulebook then I despair for this world Especially when the Speedway rulebook is such a good one for pulling obscure, pointless and mind numbingly inane rules out of it to prove your point. This is especially satsifying against the Jocks. Do Berwick count as Jocks or not? Are you getting a vote for the Scottish independence?
