Rye House V Workington 13/8/12
bolly replied to cityrebel's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Weather forecast looking better today, just a chance of showers at about 5.00pm other than that dry and cloudy. Maybe we will still get a meeting tonight )) -
Quite agree Montie, funding in the wrong hands is just like pouring money down the drain. The funding and backing has to go into a structured system of training and support. Better coaching and more time from all clubs to bring on young british riders, with maybe some club owned and maintained equipment for first year riders ? Maybe something along the lines of a small allocation of of the sky money could be in a pot and shared pro-rata to any clubs that can prove they provide junior training schools, 2nd half academy level races and can show marked improvement of regular users of their facilities. Beginner - academy rider - NL - PL - EL. I am sure some sort of incentive formula could be worked out by the BSPA or whoever
-
As Shadders states I make no claims for any of these riders although I think that most developed an honed their skills on our smaller more technical track. The point I was trying to make was that Len has always tried to keep as many British riders in his teams, mostly young riders on their way up. And as a totally personal view I always thought of just us and Sheffield being comprised of a majority of British riders in the PL over the past few years. As again this year 6 out of 7 of our initially declared PL riders were British which from memory is 2 more than any other PL team ??
-
This being a Rye House thread I know Scunthorpe are bringing on many young British riders, but we have had our fair share of British talent passing through our teams both NL and PL at the Rye. Over the past few years I have watched to name a few; Kennett Woffinden King Roynon Boxall Garrity Mear Haines Plus numerous British riders around the NL Which I dont think is too bad for a little trick track in the a*se end of Hoddesdon.

As far as I am aware it was because they can get tinnies at the supermarket at the same price as us and put 100% mark up and sell them to the idiots who forget to buy there own, Plus you dont need anybody to clean the pipes or change the barrel if you are just handing over a tinnie. But when I went to school, 20% of something was still better than 100% of nothing ?
-
Reducing the bar to an off licence this year didn't help. Since they removed all draught beer and decent barman, we all go into the Rye Pub or the Labour Club down the road, before and after the meeting. Also we buy tinnies at the supermarket, so we have no need to go in the bar at all. A couple of years ago, the long bar would be quite busy after every meeting and most of the riders would be in there for at least a short while, which all goes towards creating a club atmosphere. I am told now that only thing that moves in the bar after meetings is the tumbleweed )))

Ricky Kling to cover for three matches over the weekend ? Actually, may well strengthen us, but I dont know how he rides Berwick, Edinburgh and Newcastle ?

From Rye website today. Finally, the application for Tyson Nelson’s visa continues to drag on. Processing of the application has unfortunately been delayed by a backlog of work due to the Olympics and pending industrial action by all UK border agency staff. As a result, no news is not good news. Next weeks thrilling instalment of the Tyson Nelson, will he, wont he story to be published. As soon as they can think it up

“Unfortunately, although Jason Garrity rode through the pain barrier for an important 4 points, he had to pull out because his broken thumb was swelling up. It is now doubtful whether he will ride again this year, as he will have to have it re-set in plaster.” Taken from Craig Saul's report of last nights match on http://www.ryehouse.co/default.aspx Craig Saul's report from last night at Plymouth states that Jason Garrity aggravated the thumb injury last night and may not ride again this season. I know he is young and enthusiastic but maybe a bit to impetuous and returned to early from injury, which now may end his season.

Throwing an engine onto your hand and breaking your thumb and fingers is a bit of a drastic way of getting out of riding two raiders meetings next weekend !!! Jason Garrity

Called off on BSPA site (( -
http://www.home.ryehouse.co/index.htm Just for those of you who are still using the BSPA link to the Herts Mercury copy of the Rockets site. The above link should get you to the similar looking site, but is much more regularly updated by Craig.

On the latest issue of greensheet averages Lukes average has gone up to 5.57, so if allowed Nelson can slot in direct for Luke on his 5.33 ave. But I think that this depends on whether Anders was signed as a direct replacement for Nelson or if he was taken on as a non nominated rider whose average fitted. We shall wait to see !!! Get well soon Luke, but I know how long these things take to heal as my son broke and had his femur pinned in March and is still not walking without a stick. Let nature take its course and hopefully we will see you and Chris available for team places next season.
-
Ok, I am not the best at these things but from what I can make out with current averages, new ones should be out any day now. Tyson if put back into the side has to replace Mellgen on a straight like for like exchange if team is not re-declared. If team is redeclared without Luke then Rye have 6.47 to replace him with so Nelson slots in and still a point to spare !!! I am sure this looks too easy and I have missed something. Gjedde 8.97 Frampton 7.44 Mellgren 5.69 Hawkins 5.31 Bunyan 5.04 Garrity 3.94 Nelson 5.33
-
So reading the Mercury article what do you reckon ?? I wouldnt be suprised if Charlie (must be expensive) Gjedde gets booted out, Frampton to No.1 Mellgren to 3, Nelson to 5, Bowen and Hawkins as 2nd strings with Bunny and Garrity at 6 and 7. I cant see who else he can drop ?

Raiders Vdudley Sat 16th June ..after Rockets At 6pm Rye
bolly replied to waco's topic in National League Speedway
I agree with Shadders but not always his choice of words )) Adam and Tai were reserves in the Rye 2007 team both starting the season at reserve, since then we know that Adam has had more than his fair share of accidents and injuries but when he has ridden he has doubled or trebled up so experience is not that vastly different. I am sure that if Len had named Tai as No.1 in the Raiders squad this year (if a way could be found), the Dudley fans would have been among the first to shout that the NL wasn't a league for riders with elite league positions and on the edge of the GB team. Adam is no longer a mere youngster learning his way in the sport, nor is he a 'has been' who rides as he will never get a ride at a higher level. He is a rider that I personally like and should be close to or nearing the peak of his career, which is Premier heat leader or above. It a bit like getting Wayne Rooney to play for your sunday morning pub league football team )) Stop moaning and bring on more young british talent to become the Tai or Adam of tomorrow, as had been already said Richie Worral is on his way up and I doubt if he will be in NL next year as he has improved so much and so quickly in such a short space of time. Lets make room for more of this. -

Raiders Team - Garrity, Morley, Sargeant and Chessell. Garrity replaces Mason after his BIG crash at Rye on Monday, His crash was very reminiscent of Tommy Allens crash a few years ago when he he almost made it to the patio steps. Good to see him walk away from it, but obviously very shaken up. Suprised to see Chessell in place of Hazleden, Luke has come on well this season, but I think that I would have still preferred to take Shane as he can be as fast as anyone on his day. Looks a struggle to get out of qualifying let alone win this meeting, with Stoke and Dudley looking good in Group A and Mildenhall looking very classy from Group B. Whatever happens I hope that the Raiders prove me wrong and win And that all the riders have an enjoyable and SAFE meeting. If the Raiders dont win then maybe the Rye House old boys will do well (IOW) -
Happy Days Chris Now what sort of downer can you put on the news that Rye House will stage the semi-final of British Speedway Championships. Should be a good smattering of EL riders (Maybe Tai, Eddie, Danny and Robbo) plus some PL heatleaders Leigh Lanham, David Howe and Jordan. I dont think that Robbo has ridden on the track since the new shale was layed which gives better grip and more useable outside line around turn 2 ? Should be a good meeting.

Doh, caught out again )) It was Black and not Fox. Sorry to worry any friends and relatives of Aaron Fox. When I say interval, it was a gap between heat 14 and Final Race. But on the positive side Len said that Dylan Black was concious and talking to paramedics after crash and only went to Hospital as a precaution.
-
Meeting abandoned, cant say I'm to upset, I was sooooooooooo cold tonight. Ben Morley had engine problem and appeared to lose power on 4th bend. Aaron Fox ploughed into him. Ben walked back to pits nursing a bad back and Fox spent about 30 mins on track being looked at by paramedics. It appears Fox was knocked out and requires to be checked out at Hospital. County ambulance not available for at least 30 mins so track ambulance to take him. Len asked for show of hands to see if spectators wanted to wait for ambulance to return but by 6 hands to 2 hands it was decided by all the spectators to finish meeting and go home to warm up. PS. Steve Boxall out on track during interval doing some practice laps. Anybody got any ideas where he's going to now ???
-
Big Dave I agree with you. I was just illustrating that as Rye were so far below the 42.50 limit that Mellgren could come into to the team for virtually anybody.
-
I think as the original Rye team were declared virtually 2 points below the limit, we could redeclare with Mellgren replacing either Hawkins or Bowen and Gjedde replacing Neath and still be well within the 42.50 limit. In fact although my maths might not be all that, but at a quick tot up Mellgren could even come in place of Bunyan and we would still be inside the limit ???

BREAKING NEWS Carol Kirkwood (BBC weather girl) has just been sacked by the BBC and Len Silver will replace her He will stand in front of a magnetic map of the UK and stick on blue/red/white or yellow motorbike helmets depending on whether its rideable weather or not ? Then he will toss a 2 pound coin to see where the newsreaders sit on the sofa and throw the coin into the studio audience Love him or hate him he appears to have an uncanny knack of knowing if the weather will allow meeting to go ahead.
