  1. Im sure i heard Gary Guglemi passed away a couple of years ago, not 100 percent sure mind!!!Bloody good rider though.
  2. Great interview with Gunder the wonder. Fantastic rider and sportsman, still remember that race in 85 when he blasted around Shoey and Lance King to force the run off. Legend is a word often overused in my view, however thats definatley not the case with Erik, a true speedway legend.
  3. Its a great article, worthy of a true legend. Being too young i never got to see the mighty atom at hyde road, but ive been imformed many times by my dad that he was quite simply awesome. Britians greatest speedway rider, yeah you better believe it..The sad thing is, some of our current side dont deserve to wear our famous jacket.
  4. I have to agree the one off final had all the excitment, plus the whole qualifying rounds(thats when the british final actually counted for something!!). Of course you got the odd shock result(Muller 83)but that added to the whole appeal. I guess the gp is much fairer, however if your good enough you would win in either format, look at Nielsen second two years on the bounce then champion in 86/87. The major problem for me with the gp, is seeing the same bloody riders each series!!I understand its given speedway a wider audience with sky, but i suspect its also been detramental to british league speedway also. One thing is certain the gp is here to stay, thats for sure!!!
  5. Just actually watched Mullers last ride in 83 on you tube, and the guy totally cuts the corner off!!!Ive never heard it mentioned before either, always though Muller was treated a little unfair, but after seeing that im not to sure. 3 finals for Kenny isnt that bad, as his career was sadly short. Shawn Moran only made 3, and he rode top tier speedway for over a decade, now thats a joke really!!!
  6. Cool cannot wait, Mitch was a great little rider, he could race on any type of track big or small, sure i remember him winning a commonwealth final at bradford, or was it an overseas!!!oh well he was bloody good, hard as nails also..
  7. First meeting 1982 BV VS CRADLEY ko cup 2nd leg, we lost on aggregate, oh well at least it got me ready for future dissapointments Carnt remember much of the meeting as i was only 7 at the time!!!
  8. The 80s were my fav decade, as i first went to Hyde road with the old man in 82. Loads of top stars, Morton, Morans, Gundersen, Nielsen, oh and a guy called Carter. Im oviously biased but i have lots of great memories, my dad always says the 70s PC was just awesome, pitty by 82 he was on the way down really, fantastic at BV though, oh man could we do with Super Mort and PC now!!!
  9. I have to disagree MAUGERACE, ive viewed it myself and believe Kenny ran out of track, but due to his shear determination/single mindedness he refused to back off the throttle, no contact with Penhalls bike either, dont get me wrong as a 7 yr old at the time Kenny was one of my favs and i wish hed have backed off the throttle and tried to cut back, sadly his chance had gone, for ever!!!
  10. Both are outstanding publications, however i read backtrack as the 80s were my first era into speedway.
  11. The riders clearly have to take responsibillity for last nights poor show, Middlo cannot ride for them at the end of the day. I agree its time for a change, Middlos had his chance, lets give Havvy a crack at it, at the very least the riders would give him respect, plus i reckon hed motivate them(maybe give them a kick up the ar*e!!!)With the lack of world class current British riders, the only chance of us winning the world cup in the next few years would be if the final was at coventry.Sadly we just havent got a crop of 4/5 world class riders, you can ultimatley only use whats at your disposal.
  12. Just finished it. Great read, Kenny really had a tough upbringing(oviously i make no excuse for his selfish final act though). As a rider he was terrific, i first started going to the speedway in 82 and remember KC winning the BLRC, he was awesome!!Couldnt believe he was only 25, what a terrible waste, not just to speedway but more importantly his children. It is however, clearly a sad story in which the authour tells it like it was.
  13. Yes i remember Andy Buck he looked huge!!!But then again i was only about eight and a bit of a short ar** for my age!!He was really nice though, he even signed my cap at Peterborough(oh happy days!!).
