  1. Isn't the aim to reward those in the NHS and not profit from them ? I would hope that the oft quoted wonderful BSF community, if they saw a NHS newcomer at a match, would actually buy them a drink / meal as a personal thank you and not rely on them buying their own; whoever gets the profits..
  2. Have volume up as high as possible (11 maybe; #Spinal Tap) and listen to the crowd.
  3. Maybe this one. For those watching in black and white, Joe Screen is in the blue helmet.
  4. Total empathy. We are always happy to take in other events, rather than sit and sulk, and had already seen basketball, ice hockey and a Red Bull training match in Salzburg, plus several Classical and Rock gigs with previous abandonments at St Johann. With thanks to Iris 123 for the link, many things were already cancelled or restricted, I couldn't even get tickets for a Bayern League match owing to a limit on attendances to 1000, and one classical concert with a capacity limit of 99 in a huge hall would not give a decent atmosphere. With no current indication of there being no similar restrictions on bars, restaurants and museums etc. and a 4 a.m. departure for a very early flight from Gatwick in the morning it seemed a long way to go for possibly one amateur football match on Saturday and no eats or drinks afterwards, so we will staying at home. We booked through BA hols and it is impossible to get through on their phone lines at present and they don't allow you to cancel on line. I've told the hotel we won't be going but, like you, insurance is not looking good. Hope we still get our Avios . Sincerest best wishes that you are more fortunate with Heerenveen.
  5. Many thanks for the link. I feared the worse with Linz playing behind closed doors on Thursday and got a message from RB this morning advising that the Austrian FA were making a decision, on events likely to attract in excess of 1,000. I would assume the intimacy of the various concert halls in the city would mean them closing too, and the bars and restaurants. Looking like 4 days of Austrian TV, with sandwiches Update; Self restriction at the Mirabel Palace means only 99 people are allowed to watch each concert. there. until further notice. Seriously considering taking the hit and writing off any losses.
  6. Just received my Email confirming. Oh well, Red Bull v Rapid Wien on Sunday and SAK 1914 v FC Pinzgau Saalfelden on Saturday here we come. and another Mozart Concert or two, thrown in. Time to do the remaining breweries too. Third visit to Salzburg for Ice Speedway and third time it's been called off with two thaws at St. Johann seemingly avoided this time, with the security of an artificial track. At least we saw shale stuff at Pocking on our first visit. Ironically we forewent the Polish event because of the clash with Mothering Sunday, that'll teach us. Still brown stuff happens so happy to get on with life. Salzburg is too nice a city to be miserable in.
  7. Can't stand the bloke, but what a great signing for us. . There goes the new Ferrari as I'll be spending my Euros burning up the miles on the M1 every Thursday instead, to cheer him on.. Now if only we could only get Ty Wolfinden in the side too. Go Nicki.
  8. Pleased to see the humour bypass operation was a success.
  9. Different programme, different channel but why start a new thread, I say? Barry Briggs was a Pointless answer on a TV quiz with a similar name this evening. Richard Osman referring to him as a speedway rider. I wonder if anyone on this forum may have heard of him.
  10. Totally side-tracking, as this thread seems to be sticking far too closely to the OP for comfort, for the BSF,. One of the question setters for The Chase, and others quiz shows; notably The Weakest Link and 15-1, is a friend of mine. Although he has never seen a live meeting he is a big fan of speedway and even had an action photo of Franky Zorn on his board when at the BBC in London. He is therefore prone to throw the occasional speedway question into these shows, although they are hardly likely to test the average fan; such as how many laps to a heat, how many brakes, how many riders in a race, in what sport is Tai Woffinden a World Champion etc.? As he says he is happy to give plugs to something he enjoys. PS Please send a PM if you know the answers to the above questions as I am really struggling. with a couple.
  11. Will ultimately link with the site Iris123 has pointed to but I got details from Jasper Iwena's Facebook page . Poster and comments (including Bart Schapp and Lukas Hutla) should hopefully be visible using the link below. https://www.facebook.com/ArenaLodowa/photos/a.118984902010414/489756224933278/?type=3&theater
  12. Equally guilty., I'm assuming there must be something akin to British Counties with it being in the "county" of Lodz. Seems I may need to bite the bullet and use Ryanair. as the obvious route to Wuts.
  13. Pedant alert. . About 60 km from city of Lodz in town of Tomaszów Mazowieck. An impressive indoor arena. Definitely on the radar.
  14. Loads at Sheffield on Sunday; as usual. One guy on the apex of the 3rd and 4th bends, who looks like he has a penchant towards home made meat and potato pies (yum) went the full length f the centre green to assist in repairing the air fence on bend 2 after Rasmus Jensen hit it. Once sorted the riders were put on 2 minutes for the rerum as he was tidying up, but he still legged it back across one of the biggest centre greens in British speedway to be in position before tapes up. And was raking as soon as the riders had left the track after that and each heat. Well done that man. Excellent commitment to the cause.
  15. Also doubled up with the United game, but, with Somerset to do next Wednesday, I thought I'd save on driving so came by public transport, from he smoke, this week. With some ludicrous train fares (I've flown to several Eastern European tracks for far less) I chose coach up and train back. Unsure how long roadworks will be on but with the Parkway junction on M1 closed off and 4 lanes down to 1 there, the last two miles took around 40 minutes. To bear in mind if using this route during these works. Total mess up at Bramall Lane with season tickets not working so mega queues at the ticket office to get replacements meant I missed the first 25 minutes. of the game. Luckily the serial mega doomsters on the BSF weren't watching, otherwise all hell would have broken loose. with the end of Premier League football in sight; all Keith Chapman, Poole Pirates and Rob Godfrey's faults. Seeing the number of red and white shirts at Owlerton it seemed many took this double option. Took a bit of time to start the meeting but, with the usual home promotion efficiency, it was over in 90 minutes. In spite of the issues with the trams, with the track dug up at Hillsborough, I was still able to grab a couple of excellent ales in the Sheffield Tap, before my train left; arriving home in the early hours after an 18 hour day. Craig Cook was a bit naughty with his trapping of Danny, as he attempted to pass, in heat 13, ironically having caused his partner to fall in a similar manoeuvre in the initial running, seemingly believing it was a Tiger coming round and not a Giant. So a great day for Sheffield with two victories in just over 3 hours and a great weekend with Wednesday losing too.
  16. Made my first trip to the Island, last night, since they were in the second tier and agree with your assessment, although I have seen him live on several occasions, so knew what to expect. His style actually reminded me of Chris Holder when he raced for the Islanders, which can't be bad for his CV.
  17. Cheers Chris; that is exactly what I was referring to and sympathising with the MDSL riders (and a car load of Reading fans ) who waited for their match to start but with conditions at that stage making it impossible. The irony reference was that the MDL match which followed the NL match I attended last season was also rained off following a similar downpour.
  18. As I was only about 25 miles away during the afternoon, I decided to make this my annual visit to Loomer Road. With the "bad press" Stoke have received on here in the recent past I have usually enjoyed my previous visits, often finding criticism to have been wildly inaccurate or blatantly prejudiced. TBH there are still some matters which need addressing but nothing which can seriously be claimed ruins the sport. And the racing, other than when Joe Lawlor or to a lesser extent Dan Thompson were out, was hardly the most gripping. This no doubt enhanced the evening as I was always looking for Lawlor's next race However full credit must be given to them getting the meeting flowing, although had it been abandoned after heat 14 there could have been no complaints. 85 minutes from the parade to conclusion of heat 15 is pretty good though. With Adam Isherwood pushing off a grateful Leicester rider , whose bike had stalled, the desire throughout was plain to see. As you said Leicester were just too good on the night and with a rider performing well at the top level in their side, the result was never in doubt, but no criticism of any riders from me. I could argue that Connor Coles was unintentionally knocked off as I had the perfect view of the incident, but, a different exclusion, wouldn't have altered the result and no way could the referee have seen the contact from the box. . Sadly, I didn't meet a group of first timers whose evening was ruined by the presenter referring to Plymouth as The Devils and who would never go to speedway again as a result. Simply an unsung group whose aim was to keep things moving and who succeeded. Sympathies to the Development League guys but with the track like a lake at the time there is no way they could have raced. Ironically the same thing happened on my visit last season
  19. Big opportunity for every BSF poster to have their say on the Kartway's Facebook page. Over 280 had posted last time I checked with most POLITELY requesting the inclusion of speedway in any future plans for the stadium. JUST DO IT.
  20. £100 on petrol and £180 on two nights hotel to make this match less hectic than a one day visit, but, hey detritus happens. After the downpour on Saturday with Bolsterstone literally being the top of a waterfall, heading towards S6 and Shiregreen Road outside the Concord Sports Centre being a lake at midday today the timing of the postponement was perfect. No doubt the usual suspects will find something to whinge about (Oh it's started ) but after sweltering in just a polo shirt, above the waist, at Sheffield Club v United PSF on Friday night who would have predicted the sudden and dramatic climatic change?. As usual well done to Tigers promotion for sensible actions in preventing day tripping away (and home) fans from starting their journeys , but at the same time allowing for sufficient preparation should they have been able to trust the weather to look to get the track race fit. As one of their longest distance travelling supporters maybe I should have most to moan about, with a minimum spend of around £150 per home match; when there is a postponement, but, being drop dead gorgeous. I am just happy to get on with life and eschew the miserable. It takes less face muscles. So the bonus of a couple of excellent ales (£2.80 a pint) in the Tool Makers Brewery Tap, getting a box of Hendos to gift to the southern masses and home in time for Poldark for the other half and another Sunday to diarise for the rearranged date. Hope you make it back this season Col; well worth making the trip. As for me I may well look to make the Toolmakers Tap (The Forest) one of my libation stop offs for future matches. That makes it 24 options now.
  21. Funny as it has been showing on Plymouth's Facebook for 4 hours. Seems they are keeping the supporters well informed.
  22. Yes, but you are forgetting the motto of serial posters on the BSF here, " Et nunquam adepto in via bona facta gemitumque dedere cavernae.".
