  1. I'm Happy to help answer any questions you guys may have but here are a few points which need explaining. Does anyone know of any other youth Motor sport where they do not have to pay an entry free to the British Championships? Grass track, Moto X, Road Racing, Go Karts etc. to be able to do this the BSPA pay over the course of a season over £7000 to finance the British Youth Championships and British Youth Training days, this covers Medical, Insurance etc. the £20 oil voucher wingnut mentions was in fact £800 split with Trophies and £50 , £30, £20 for top 3 in each class to spend on spares, this was kindly sponsored by Wessex Marina. All riders at the final round also received £15 worth of lubricants. Each rider who raced in the British Youth Championship will receive a small amount of help from the BSPA for each round attended (again this is not provided in any other youth Mororsport as far as i know.) Of course a pot of money would be great to set up an Academy etc and Myself and Neil are trying to achieve this but the BSPA are only 25 business men and firstly they all have to balance the books at there own tracks before spending out. Lastly £10000 seems crazy money to race in 6 meetings (thats GP kind of money) anyone could buy a second hand 500cc bike and kit for £1500 easy, use if for the 6 British Championship rounds and have no major outlay apart from Fuel and Oil for the bike and Fuel for the van, and if you found the sport was not for you then sell the bike back for the same kind of money you bought it for, now thats an easy and low cost way of racing in a 6 round British Championship. Each rider also keeps there race jackets which are kindly Sponsored by Friends of Speedway Magazine. Kind Regards Phil

  14. BRITISH Speedway’s future stars take to the track this coming Sunday when the British Youth Championships begin at Newport (3.00pm, practice 2.30pm). The series, previously known as the Under-15 Championship, is run under the control of GB Under-21 managers Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher, and is open to any British rider under the age of 16. There are three classes catered for, with a British Championship at 500cc and 250cc levels, and a 125cc support class. There will be a total of six rounds counting towards the Championships, with further events being staged at Buxton, Plymouth, Isle of Wight, Sittingbourne and Stoke during the season. The meetings also have some great pedigree where former Great Britain international Martin Dugard’s son Kelsey will compete in the 250cc series and Kean Dicken (son of Edinburgh star, Lee) will take part in the 125cc support class. The response for entries this season has been exceptional. Under-21 boss Phil Morris enthused: “We’ve had twice the number that has ever turned out for any of these meetings in the past, so things are definitely going in the right direction. “The word has spread with what we’re trying to do with the youngsters and we’ve had lads coming across from other motorsports like grasstrack to give speedway a go. “There has been no entry fee to enter, so all they have had to do is get a bike, register with us and away they go. With all other youth motorsport you have to pay an entry fee. “It should be an exciting series of meetings and the experience all the lads will gain should prove invaluable. “The wide variety of different sized and shaped tracks will help improve their development as riders and also their knowledge of bike set-ups.” 500cc BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP Adam Portwood, Cameron Hoskins, Tyler Govier, Jack Jones, Andrew Ross, Nathan Stoneman, David Abraham, Adam Kirby, Michael Neale, Jack Kingston, Sean Phillips 250cc BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP Max Clegg, Nathan Greaves, Connor Mountain, Reece Downes, Kelsey Dugard, Josh Bailey, Zach Wajtknecht, Josh Bates, Mitchell Jacks 125cc SUPPORT CLASS Tom Brennan, Jack Collins, Kenny Bowdery, Anders Rowe, Kieran Vaughan, Kyle Bickley, William O Keefe, Lewis Whitmore, Henry Atkins, Luke Woodhull, Ben Woodhull, Jack P Blackburn, Kean Dicken, Macauley Leek, Saul Bulley

  18. BULLS V DUDLEY - SUNDAY, @ Birmingham Perry Barr. Saturday April 30, 2011 THERE'S a mouthwatering local speedway derby at Perry barr on Sunday night - and admission prices have been slashed. The Birmingham Bulls face Dudley Heathens, who rode some of their home meetings at Birmingham last season, in a one-off challenge at 6.30pm. Plenty of Heathens fans are set to make the short trip for the meeting with admission just a tenner for adults. Bulls boss Phil Morris said: "Dudley were the success story of the National League last season and this will be a real test for my boys. "But I have put a competitive team together within the 40-point limit which applies to the National League and I hope Birmingham fans come along and anjoy the meeting." The meeting will be supporting Troop Aid, a locally based charity which does tremendous work supporting injured British troops when they arrive home from active service. The charity will have collectors at entry points to the Stadium from when the turnstiles open (5.15pm), right up until the start time of 6.30pm. All collection buckets will be clearly marked with the Troop Aid logo. BIRMINGHAM: Jack Hargreaves, Jake Knight, Steve Worrall, Mark Baseby, Paul Starke, Stefan Nielson, Lewis Blackbird. HEATHENS: Jon Armstrong, Richard Franklin, Tom Perry, Ashley Morris, Byron Bekker, Darryl Ritchings, Luke Chessell
  19. BRITISH Speedway Youth bosses will be staging a Training Day at Buxton later this month. The event will take place at the National League venue on Wednesday April 27, from 10am – 3pm. It will be provided free-of-charge by the BSPA to any riders who own their own bike and equipment. It is open to youngsters aged 16-or-under. Former World Individual Speedway Champion Gary Havelock will be in attendance to pass on his vast knowledge, along with the Young Lions management team Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher. Morris said: “This is a great opportunity to get some quality track time with experienced riders giving out welcome advice.” Riders are asked to confirm attendance by emailing younglionsspeedway@hotmail.co.uk Further good news on the youth front sees a total of 42 riders already signed up to take part in the six-round British Youth Championship later this year. This is double the number of entries received last season. Morris commented: “It’s great to see the numbers increase by one-hundred-per-cent. This really makes all the hard work that Neil and I are doing to try and get the feel- good factor back in British Speedway, worth it.” There are couple of amendments to the originally published British Youth Championship. The event at Sittingbourne on Sunday September 11 now has a 12pm start-time and the Stoke round has been brought forward a day to Saturday September 24 (7pm). BRITISH YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE Newport – Sunday May 15, 3pm Buxton – Sunday June 12, 3pm Plymouth – Saturday August 6, 1pm Isle of Wight – Thursday August 18, 7pm Sittingbourne – Sunday September 11, 12pm Stoke – Saturday September 24, 7pm

  21. SOME of Britain’s brightest young talent will take to the Perry Barr track next Thursday when the Birmingham Bulls host the American Touring Team. With the senior Brummies side taking a week off it gives supporters a chance to watch the nation’s future stars in competitive action. The America side will be on a tour of the UK which sees them also visiting a number of National League tracks. They will also be tracking some emerging youngsters, combined with a selection of more experienced riders such as former Brummies favourite Shawn McConnell. The Bulls team will be managed by Great Britain Under-21 boss Phil Morris and the popular Welshman is eagerly looking forward to what promises to be an exciting night of action. He said: “As team manager I have picked a young British team of riders and I have great confidence that the 1-7 is very strong. I’m sure they will provide great entertainment and we’re all looking forward to it. “These are the guys of the future and I hope the fans turn out in large numbers to support the lads in this exciting fixture. “I'm also personally looking forward to the task of Team Manager and hope we can end with a deserved victory. “I loved my time racing for the Brummies, so I was very proud to be asked to organise and manage the Birmingham Bulls. “This fits in well with my other speedway commitments, such as looking after under-21 speedway and also being involved with Neil Middleditch in the Team GB set-up.” BULLS: Jack Hargreaves Tom Perry Tim Webster Brendon Johnson Paul Starke Ben Reade Darryl Ritchings.
