A message from Jamie & Scott Courtney. There can be no hiding from the fact that 2023 has been our toughest season on track in recent memory. An almost constant flow of injuries throughout both the Bullets and Bandits sides have contributed to a lack of consistency on track and whenever there has been a glimmer of hope it has been swiftly followed by another heavy blow. As a club, the wellbeing of our community and riders is top priority and to see so many lads from both of our sides get severely banged up really does have an effect on the morale of everyone involved with Berwick Speedway. A sporadic fixture list, inconsistent weather, lack of rider availability and probably the toughest economic climate to run a Speedway club ever, has led us to ask ourselves all of the big questions…… The reality is that Berwick Speedway has always been more than just a team that enters a league year in year out. Berwick Speedway is bigger and more valuable to the sport than we are all probably feeling right now. The club has always shown great resilience through the toughest of times since the Taylor family founded Berwick Speedway back in 1968 and it’s time to dig deep once again! Moving forward we are delighted to announce that we will be leaning on our strength and resilience to bounce back from adversity and we will walk into 2024 with our heads held high. As per every year, plans for the following season both within the club and at BSP level begin around July/August time and 2023 has provided us with our most challenging season on track but we are ready to regroup, rebuild, recharge and go again. Bringing the fans, sponsors and supporters of Berwick Speedway the best possible version of the club in 2024 is our top priority and we are well underway with plans to improve in all areas we can. On Saturday September the 16th we will mark the end of a short but explosive era for the Berwick Bullets. After 3 seasons of competing in the National League, the club will be taking a break from that level of competition. The Bullets have been almost entirely self funded by the club owners and after an incredibly demanding season on and off the track, your promotion have made the decision to channel their attention towards the Bandits and a revamped youth system. The Bullets brand will continue at youth level and will be associated with the purpose built Grant Henderson Tankers training academy at Duns. We look forward to our remaining fixtures and will continue to do our very best for the club in 2023 and beyond!

To be fair there`s plenty to go on, poor performance last night at Leicester then turns up today only to retire then fail to make his second ride, then pulls out. Lets see how he goes tomorrow, if he turns up.

I have no doubt that had Howarth really wanted to be in this meeting he would've got something together today.
-
It is such a shame that certain riders don`t see this meeting as something worth winning.

The Championship fixtures this season have been a shambles.

Weather Play Offs top and bottom
screm replied to HGould's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Thanks to a Plymouth rain off our season has actually gone into September which is an achievement in itself. -
Craig Cook was a very decent rider about three stone ago, sadly he`s a shadow of the rider he used to be.

As a Berwick fan, could someone explain the concept of play offs, it not something I am familiar with. -
Your are correct I was wrong, still don't see why Basso cant get back from Poland to Redcar for tomorrow.
-
Josh Pickering is riding in Poland tomorrow for Gniezno in their home match with Pila, the same meeting that Sam Masters is riding in. It does seem odd that the BSPL would schedule what should be a meeting that the Championship riders would want to ride in for a weekend where the Polish play offs were taking place.
-
Basso not in the Bydgoszcz team today.

The Bullets last home match against Belle Vue will take place on Saturday September 16th. It is very likely that this will be the last track action for 2023, so could the last person out switch off the lights and lock up.

To be honest just about everything is within the rules these days.

As Berwick were the Championship club who gave Rory a way back into speedway you would think he would make himself available for as many meetings as possible to represent Berwick, anyway thanks Rory, at least you can be bothered with the CLRC, or you can at the minute.
-
Could he not have holidayed in Oxford, very nice at this time of the year.
-
Berwick once again leading the way with riderless captains. Great to see the Bullets copying the Bandits in away meetings, great to see.
-
Looks like Rory Schlein is guesting in the double header meeting at Edinburgh this Friday.

Leon Flint and Jye Etheridge has been selected to ride in the Championship Pairs at Oxford.

Peterborough v Sheffield - 21st Aug

I haven't been to Peterborough all that many times, Premier League 4`s a few times plus one league match, but it would be a crying shame to lose the EoES.
