    The track record at Monmore in 1972 began at 63.4, set the previous year by Ole Olsen. A sign of how times change was the Midland Riders Championship qualifying rounds. In the Monmore event heat 20 saw Olsen beat Barry Briggs by about half a lap as he set a new record of 62.0 seconds. A new record seemed to be his ambition as he rode full on for four laps. If memory serves, it stood until 1975.

    I have read the news item on the BSPA site and it seems that Lambert is a guest for Musielak. Sheffield are 'monitoring' Tai's progress on Sunday and Lawson is standing by to guest. Drew Kemp stands in for Claus Vissing. Admittedly though, the news item is badly written and is less than clear.

    Sad news. A rarity in sport, a competitor that did not divide opinion. He was respected and admired by all. I was lucky to see him throughout his long and illustrious career. One of the great guys.
