Warsaw GP Saturday 11th May 2024
Trevor replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
As many people as possible should let Eurosport know that messing around with the Speedway coverage upsets a lot of their viewers. If no one seems bothered they will do it again. -
Workington Town Rugby averaged 1000 for their fixtures last season. Workington Reds are attracting 650 this season. It will be interesting to see how the Comets compare.

I really hope that Speedway does return to Coventry. However is there a promoter out there who would take it on? We now have a track at Odsal in Bradford, but without someone who has the financial clout to launch it, nothing can happen.
-
I might be wrong, but wasn't the set up a few years back, a league competition with one home and away for all clubs, and an extra competition for the stand alone clubs who wanted more fixtures?

When will it have lights fitted?

Sheffield vs. Belle Vue Grand Final 2nd Leg 13/10/22

Then they should have it. It just means two sets of local media can have pictures of a team holding a trophy. -
Sheffield vs. Belle Vue Grand Final 2nd Leg 13/10/22

Can I bang the drum for an idea I have had some time. The team that finishes top of the league deserves recognition for that achievement. So they should be given a 'League Winners Shield', although the Play Offs should still decide the overall Champions. It would cost little, but be consolation in a situation such as Sheffield who top the league, but fail in the Play Offs. If a team tops the league and wins the Play Offs, they get two trophies. It happens in Rugby League, and seems to not detract from the Grand Final. -
Sheffield vs. Belle Vue Grand Final 2nd Leg 13/10/22
Trevor replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Congratulations to Belle Vue. It's been sad to see so many moaning about the ref, she was consistent. The incidents in heat one and two, were more or less in the same place, I would have prefered all four back in both, however she choose to exclude, fair enough. She got Heat 11 right too, tough but correct. It was ungracious to see some at Sheffield in their disappointment, lash out at the official. The issue that should be considered for the future was, the one fron the first leg. Wright was injured and BV had to go with only one rider. Surely a team down to five riders should be able to bring in a replacement on a lower average? The five one Sheffield got in Heat 14 brought it closer than it would have been. If a team went down to five in the first few heats, it would ruin it as a match with only three riders in a race. -
Two questions; Has there ever been a Speedway track, closer to the sea? What plans are there, in the short, and long term for spectators?

I remember going to St Austell, in the clay pit. It was a track miles from anywhere, with no public transport, but got a good crowd when I went.

Has Kelv put his heating on yet?
Trevor replied to Happy Hunter's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
My wife has no interest in Speedway, but always says she enjoys having it on, because of the comments from Pearson and Tatum. The banter has made the coverage much more watchable, as Speedway has a unique issue with the long gaps between the action. It not the commentary of the racing that is important, it's what you say between the heats. -
I don't think Speedway should go down the 'adopt a trendy cause month'. Other sports feel compelled to display how virtuous they are, kneel for this, stand for that, wave for the other etc. Where does it end? Colour blind awareness month (No red, green lights) Left, Right, history month, where riders ride clockwise, then anticlockwise in alternate heats. Empathy for loosers month, where the rider finishing last gets four points? Enough of this wokery.

I must congratulate all at Speedway Star on keep going in what must be the most difficult situation over the past year and a half. I love the annual season preview, but was disappointed at no fans view from the clubs. Also no annual predictions. Was that a deliberate omission or just the pressure of the times?

Love the new delivery service much better than Royal Mail, it was on my door mat first thing this morning. Thank you.

I see the Government have said today that if the data allows at the time sports venues can reopen on May 17th. That is with a limit related to the capacity of the venue. I take that as good news for Speedway, as only some of our announced fixtures needing to be rearranged.

I know that very few Speedway stadium are built from scratch. However when new ones do get built, I'm surprised that the pits are always built out of sight behind a stand. Would'nt it provide more interest if the pits were in full view of the public, say on the back straight, or bends 3/4? So the public could see how ready a rider was to meeting the two minutes? Or, if a rider was making a last minute bike switch? Even the extra fun of an occasional bust up! As Speedway by it's nature has gaps between races, there would be added interest if that part of the event was visable. If ever I win the lotto, which I don't buy tickets for, I would build my stadum that way.

I totally understand the need to cut costs. The thinner paper however does cause a more crumpled magazine. Would it be possible from a production point of view, to have the wrap around cover thicker than the inside pages?
-
At the start of the season we switched to set race nights. To bring back the stars, and have full teams racing against each other. The authorities foolishly stopped the return of the big names, by the one eight point rider rule. On the issue of less guests, do you think it has worked? What affect has it had on crowds size, for the clubs that have had to switch race nights?

World Championship Pairs
Trevor replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I often go to Belle Vue, but will give this a miss. Silly prices for an untried new event, and now with Cook dropped, it is even less attractive. -
Such sad news, he was the best rider I have ever seen. The lack of coverage on BBC outlets is shameful, fans should bombard them asking that this true sporting legend's passing is marked.
-
I love the Star, and look forward to Thursday when it comes. I also loved the retro feel of the front cover. My only suggestion for improvement is less of the really long articles and a bit more fan input, such as teams your team loves to beat, tips when coming to your track, rider you love to hate etc.

Best read of the year!

Team suits are a big help to identify which rider is which plus it gives a more professional look. Out of interest which team first went for team suits? I remember Halifax Dukes wore a team suit in the early 70's.

Overall some common sense decisions. My only gripe is Tac Sub in Heat 14 and only one rider over 8 point ave in the Premiership.

The track was the star of the show, after that downpour. Credit to all riders, who have a big cleaning job to do on kevlars and equipment!
