  1. Poor you Gambo.. I bet Mr Roberts dragged you in there kicking and screaming didn't he? :D

Yep...I really wanted to watch the fireworks! :D ...But what happened on the final bend of the final lap of the final race must have outshone any of the pyrotechnics that followed the presentation!

It's a blooming long haul from level 6 Press area, right round the stadium to the Press Conference and we only just arrived in time. Well worth the slog through the bowels of the stadium though, and quite an emotional Press Conference it was too!

  2. What a night!  :D

But Bomber - jeez what a star! Rode like a man possessed and I defy any sporting spectacle to out-do that noise when he won the Final. Credit as others have said to Crump and Hancock for their actions on the podium. Great to see.

    Well done Bomber!!!

For those of us fortunate enough to be in the Press Conference it was also great to see both Jason & Greg acknowledging and praising Chris as a true & worthy winner, also Crumpy leading a round of applause for the British GP Champion.

    Nice one Jason.

  3. Confused me too, have they changed the rules in regards the pick of gates in the final?

The last few years they were done in order of points socred in

qualifying heats but last night they seemed to be done on semi final

position with Andersen having second pick?

The Rule has been changed this year.

Snipped from The Rule Book: (Which is available for download on the FIM Web Site)

    http://www.fim.ch/en/default.asp?item=30#

077.8.1 Individual Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Format

Riders' gate positions for The Big Final (Heat 23) will be chosen by the

participating riders prior to the Heat in the order of their finishing place in the

Semi-Finals, the two winners have first and second choice. The two second

placed riders have third and fourth choice. The draw order of the two

winners and the two second placed riders shall be determined by their total

race points scored, including the points they scored in the Semi-Finals.

The rider with the highest number of points having the first choice, and

    so on.

  4. They do leave the roof open, a but any way.  They definatly did in 2002 (the season Sullivan won) as the rain was getting on the track on the straight.  I'm guessing they'd prefer to keep the noise in as much as possible yet have to open it a little to let the fumes out.

I believe that for "Health & Safety" reasons the roof is not allowed to be moved (opened or closed) whilst the public are in the stadium, and so a decision on 'open' or 'closed' has to be made before 5:00 pm.

  5. Why are we paying £27(?)?  Yesterday I went to the Wales Rally GB stage in the same stadium and it cost £20 for me and my dad to get in and we got a programme.  We coudl have also take in 4 kids nder the age of 16 too for no extra cost.  The bottom tier was unused, the middle tier was full and the top tier was probably as full as for the speedway.  So there were not as many people there.

So less people paying less and it was still profitable?  Then on top of that, today, people could go in for the presentation/to see the car in parc ferme FREE OF CHARGE!

We are clearly being ripped off if they can charge £10 for a World rally stage!

Whilst I'm not trying to justify the £27:00 figure, don't forget that when comparing the the price of tickets for Speedway at the Stadiumn, BSI have to rent the stadium for around a week, plus pay the costs of staff and materials for laying the track, and clearing it all away afterwards.

  6. surely in this competition a runoff is the only answer

Because of the fact that points also decide which semi-final you are in, you could then end up with two or three run-off's, just to decide which riders go in which semi-final!

Tonight, for example, you would also have needed a run-off between the four riders who finished on 9 points, to decide which semi-final they went in.

  7. NEW FORMAT AND ‘YELLOW JERSEY’ FOR

2005 FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX SERIES

THE new-look world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series kick-starts this weekend with the world’s top 16 riders lining up for round one - the FIM Dominet Bank European Speedway Grand Prix – that takes place at the Olympic Stadium, Wroclaw on Saturday (30th April).

The 2005 Series sees a number of changes to the competition with a new format and the SGP Series’ own ‘yellow jersey’.

Sixteen qualified riders will contest each Grand Prix (GP) rather than 24, as in previous seasons. Under the new format, each rider will compete against every other rider in at least one race of the 23 heats. Each rider will also start from each gate position at least once.

The current leader of the world championship at each GP will wear a distinctive yellow race jacket. Therefore, for the first round in Wroclaw Jason Crump will be the first rider to wear the exclusive jacket. Whoever wins on Saturday night will be the leader of the GP Series and will don the jacket for the second round – the FIM Swedish Speedway Grand Prix - in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

After 20 heats, the top 8 riders will progress to the semi-finals, with the first semi-final featuring 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th placed points scoring riders, while the second semi-final will feature the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th placed riders. The riders will pick their own preferred starting gate positions, with the highest scorers taking first pick with following choices made in descending points scoring order.

The first and second placed riders in each semi-final will progress to the Final, with the same process will be applied to choosing gate position.

The winning rider will be awarded 25 Grand Prix points, second will receive 20, third 18 and 4th 16. All other riders will be awarded the number of race points that they accumulated up to and including Heat 20.

    The full rider line up and draw is;

    2. (4) Leigh Adams (Australia)
