Really? KO Cup have NEVER featured in the averages of any of the British Leagues. Only League matches count in all three Leagues this year! ATB Dave

Coventry Storm V Kent Friday 14th June --7.30 Start Not 8pm

A frustrating start to the meeting with so many re-starts but the race between Jacobs and Boxall in heat 15 was really 'top drawer' stuff and I doubt you would see a better duel at any other level of the sport. Well done boys! ATB Dave -
Colin has asked me to correct the above. He was there purely to pass on a parcel to Mark Lemon, and was not there in any other capacity whatsoever. ATB Dave

Ahhh..Happy Days as the Coventry correspondent for 'The Mail'. I got 'volunteered' for the job by my mother who had complained to Tony Mac about the lack of Coventry coverage. I think a lot of us preferred the Mail to the Star as it seemed to have a stronger editorial package, particularly when Alex Alexander took over. So much that it was banned from sale for a while at a couple of tracks. Working for The Mail gave me the chance at photography from the centre green. My first opportunity coming at the World Cup Final at Bradford, marred by the horrific crash which resulted in the injuries that sadly ended Erik Gundersen's career. There I had my first lessons in positioning myself for Speedway photography from none other than Alf Weedon. I will always remember his very first words to me.... "Oy mate! Get outa my f***ing shot!" It was only after seeing the blurred print-outs of my efforts that I realised how good the photographers were in those days! I can recall my pride in seeing my name in print for the first time in The Mail as a 'by-line' and also my first ever face-to-face rider interview, with Gary Guglielmi. Along with that, I fondly remember interviews that I did with Nigel Boocock, Charles Ochiltree, Ole Olsen and Hans Nielsen, who I visited in his British home. Hans and Suzanne were so welcoming and I was shown around Hans' Trophy Room. That one room seemed bigger than my house! Rick Miller and John Jorgensen were always happy to give up their time for interviews too. Ahhh...Happy days indeed.

Ivan got a lot of stick from the British fans at Wembley in the 1969 World Final. Having already secured the title with 12 points from his four outings, he was 'beaten' by Soren Sjosten (his Belle Vue team-mate) in his last ride. Nigel Boocock had 10 points, and had Mauger relegated Sjosten to second place, Boocock and Sjosten would have had a run-off for third place along with Hasse Holmqvist. My mum wrote to Ivan after the event to remonstrate with him and Ivan went up in our estimation when he took the time, despite his busy schedule, to reply to her. (Wish we had kept the letter! ) And when he pointed out that Nigel would have probably done the same thing if it had been Booey and Rick France in that situation, we had to grudgingly agree. Although she doesn't go to Speedway much now, my wife's proudest memory is from Booey's Testimaonial, when she looked after Ivan's gold Speedway bike which was on display at Brandon. Have a long and happy retirement, Ivan. ATB Dave

Bringing the PL Averages broadly into line with the EL Averages, the PL Green Sheets (Rolling Averages) will only have 2013 PL Matches added to them. The number of effective RA Matches (Currently 38) will gradually be reduced throughout the season, so that by September the majority of riders’ averages will consist of PL Matches only. Issues from the BSPA, effective from the 1st of the month, will be reduced to:- May: 35 meetings June: 32 meetings July: 29 meetings August: 26 meetings September: 24 meetings. ATB Dave

Brandonapolis 15th March 2013

There are at least a couple of companies that I know of currently active in investigating the costing and production of covers for tracks. The main problem being that there is no standard shape/size/width to a Speedway track, so each track would have to have it's own unique set of covers manufactured. But at least it shows that the option for covers has not been discounted by promoters. Maybe a Covers Benefit meeting at tracks would help the finances. (similar to the Air Fence funding) ATB Dave -

Pardon my technical ignorance, but wasn't one of the benefits of titanium supposed to be that, although more expensive to buy, the titanium parts lasted longer. Giving a financial saving over a season. Is this true or just a bit of 'spin' put about by those that wanted to use titanium? ATB Dave

Anyone can buy the licence to use the logo/artwork. There are plenty of teams in the sports world using exactly the same Logo (with or without edited team names). Have they all stolen copyright or just bought the licence? ATB Dave

Press Release received at 3:10 pm. TONIGHT'S World Under-21 Speedway Final at Coventry's Brandon Stadium will start on-time at 7.45pm. Early afternoon rain has now cleared the stadium, and the track is in good condition after the scheduled midday practice session was cancelled as a precautionary measure. British Speedway chairman Alex Harkess said: “We’ve had rain, but that has now stopped and the track had been prepared with that in mind. “We have a better weather forecast for the rest of the day, so the meeting goes ahead and we look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium to support these talented youngsters.” ATB Dave
