Under 16's At Buxton Sunday --any Results?
Main Man replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Thanks. -
Good contest and some impressive showings from the young 'uns. Point for Dave T on Shane Waldron is that this was his first competitive rides since breaking his shoulder pre-season ( 7 months out) and he had just a few laps round Rye House prior to it. He seized his best engine in the first race then rode steadily getting more into as the meeting went on and did better than his dad expected. Given a few more outings he'll be back in the swing of things --but great to see him back in action. Josh was in a class of his own again but Tim Webster, who rode for me at Buxton last Sunday for Clwb Caerfyrddin , impressed with 8 out of 9 losing out only to Josh. Jay Pickard has come on a bundle and the more rides he gets the better he becomes and it was good to see former Cradley rider Justin Walker and his dad John in Jay' s corner. Ben Taylor lopst his paid max with a snapped chain in his last ride as the under 15's took the honours against their "older" rivals the Under 16's !! Great stuff --and nice to see Steve Piper back in George's corner and as usual there with a new joke or two !! If you haven't seen these young 'uns in action yet do so --you'll be very impressed with them and the standard of racing. Well done to Peter Oakes for what he has done in getting these lads regular and competitive rides.

Just spoken to Ollie and Shaggs and John is in good spirits and sends his best to all his fans in the UK. Will not know the full outcome of the op for a few days but he will let me know then I can post . Fingers and everything else crossed for him!!
-
Had e-mail from down under today with latest news. John had his op and is out of hospital (good news) and it was a success. Dr's are not sure at this stage what percentage of his sight he will have in that eye. Will update as I get more news and thanks to my friends down under for the news and the new phone no's for the Olivers. Laurence ps Thanks for numbers!!
-
Cheers Bryn . Pass on my best to Ben Barker too after the nasty crash at Stoke last night mate. Cheers. Laurence
-
Thanks Malcolm. Also to those down under trying to make contact for me. My fingers are crossed (and everything else) for Shaggs and that good news will be forthcoming. I have watched his progress from day 1 in the UK and tracked him, finally signing him for Kings Lynn when I stayed with them two winters ago, then his unfortunate accident at Coventry when he shattered his elbow riding for the Starlets (and on max that night too!!), then not coming back this year , this news comes as a great shock and I am sure the big speedway family out there will join with me in wishing John all the best.

The Russians And The Germans
Main Man replied to 21st century heathen's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Having met some of these young German lads during the World U-21 quarter and semi-finals at Pardubice and Lonigo whilst looking after Chris Kerr, they are a good bunch of lads with a lot of potential. Full marks to them for their efforts despite not getting , as expected, many points. They will have all gained from the experience and this will stand the Germans in good stead for the years to come. They could have had the likes of Robbie Kessler, Stefan Katt, Steffen Mell etc , riding but in all honesty they would not have gone much nearer the tough opposition they were up against in the Swedes, Poles and Aussies. Good forward thinking by the German Federation to give the kids a chance. Christian Hefenbrook amd Mattius Schultz have impressed me this year and I would think that they will be given their chance in Britain in the very near future joining Martin @ Coventry and Thomas at Kings Lynn in the el and pl. -

I'll check it again --but that what Peter Oakes has in the Whos who book and I'll just have to archive the file on him to check but I'm sure it's correct as he was 19 when he rode for me at KL.
