  1. I was hoping to use a 'guest Australasian' at 7 but unfortunately he now can't do it so ...... will move Jake Anderson to 7 , leave no. 2 blank and the reserves will cover those rides and have R/R at 4. But the 5 man Anzacs are out for victory despite the set-backs --so get yourselves over to the Island tonight if you can to witness a determined down under performance !!
  2. With it all square at 1-1 it's off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow for the third test. Australasia travel without the unavailable Jade Mudgway, Todd Kurtz, Hugh Skidmore and Ryan Sedgmen whilst Shelby Rutherford is forced out after wrecking his bike on Saturday. Grant Tregoning , after blowing two engines at Kings Lynn on Saturday in the superb Anzac victory , has kindly been lent a motor to take his place. I am trying to sort out a replacement for Shelby whilst we will again use R/R for Ryan who is still in Poland. Team : 1. Justin Sedgmen 2. Jake Anderson 3. Grant Tregoning © 4. R/R 5. Andrew Aldridge 6. Dakota North 7. ???????? Let's hope we gave 15 great heats of racing and attract a good crowd to watch the lads race.
  3. Add Justin Sedgmen to that line -up. At moment it's : 1. Justin Sedgmen 2. Jake Anderson 3. Grant Tregoning 4. 5. Andrew Aldridge 6. 7. Shelby Rutherford Hope to have last two sorted asap.

  7. SOUTH WALES ARGUS WELSH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP: The Newport Speedway management have assembled a diverse range of riders with an international flavour to contest the 21st staging of the South Wales Argus Welsh Open Championship at Queensway Meadows on Sunday afternoon. The first race is at 1pm to accomodate the thousands of speedway fans from home and abroad who stay over in South Wales following the British Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff the previous evening. Much interest will be paid to two unknown 19-year-old Swedish riders Jonas Andersson and Andreas Westlund who - like many successful Scandinavian imports to British Speedway before - are showcasing their talents in the hope of landing a contract. It does give the Newport management an opportunity to take a very close look as the club weighs up its options for the rest of the Premier League season. Also making a special trip from their homeland to compete are Lubos Tomicek of the Czech Republic and Krzysztof Stojanowski from Poland. Tomicek rode for the Lakeside Hammers in the Elite League until last season while 'Stoj' as he is affectionately known rode for the Isle of Wight Islanders in the Premier League. Both will be keen to remind clubs of their pedigree and ability. Past winners of an event first held 45 years ago at the former Somerton Park Stadium in Newport include thrice victor David Howe of the Scunthorpe Scorpions and Great Britain while Newport Wasp veteran Paul Fry would be a popular choice among home fans to mount the top step of the rostrum again. Also among the favourites to take the title will be Kevin Doolan of the Workington Comets and Australia who won the Prince of Wales individual tournament at the Newport circuit on March 15th. Other leading candidates who have finished in the top three in recent seasons are Leigh Lanham recently released by the Ipswich Witches and seeking a new team plus the Sheffield Tigers skipper Ricky Ashworth. Both are British. Besides Paul Fry the Newport representation in a competitive field will also involve Mark Lemon and Jordan Frampton of the Wasps plus Grant Tregoning of the Newport Hornets. The meeting will be held on the traditional World Championship formula for 20 heats with all riders neeting each once in five starts over at least all four gate positions. The top four scorers will then contest a 'Winner takes all' Grand Final as the 21st heat. RIDERS IN DRAW ORDER AND BY NATION: 1. Paul Fry (GB) 2. Jonas Andersson (Sweden) 3. Mark Lemon (Australia) 4. Emil Kramer (Sweden) 5. Leigh Lanham (GB) 6. Krzysztof Stojanowski (Poland) 7. Andreas Westlund (Sweden) 8. Jordan Frampton (GB) 9. Grant Tregoning (New Zealand) 10. Ricky Ashworth (GB) 11. Kevin Doolan (Australia) 12. Ty Proctor (Australia) 13. Ryan Fisher (USA) 14. David Howe (GB) 15. Chris Schramm (GB) 16. Lubos Tomicek (Czech Republic). Admission: Adults £15 Concessions £12 Children aged 5 to 16 - £5 Children under five go free. With a large crowd expected Newport fans are advised to arrive early to retain their favourite viewing position in the stadium. The turnstiles will open at 11.30am Further club details on: www.newportwasps.co.uk plus further updates on the club hotline: 09068 664676(calls charged at 60p per minute). Raceday office number is 01633 278998.
  8. Grant is included in the line-up to allow the Newport promotion the opportunity to assess him at this level for the 2010 season. He is not allowed to compete at PL or EL level on the visa he has but can be included in open meetings --as he was in the International 4's earlier in the season.

  13. Looks like a morning start on Friday ---Cardiff first to pick up my key at my cousins (just round the corner from the Stadium!!) , change and head back to Newport for our National League encounter between the Hornets and Scunthorpe (7pm start). Back to Cardiff to meet up with friends over a glass of water or two. 17. Well done to one and all. Wish I could have been in two places at the same time but with the Wasps on a northern tour had to miss out on the 3rd round on Saturday. Congratulations to Ashley on his win in the 500's and Robert in the 250's ==== but well done to one and all who took part and it is a great pity not all the lads completed the meeting. I spoke to Daryl Ritchings dad tonight and he is battered and bruised but after a short rest will be back on his bike and giving it his all. I cannot believe someone has had a go at Adam Kirby's dad , Paul, for being proud and celebrating Adam's riding . I know them well and gave Adam his first rides at Mildenhall last year and he progressed so much in a short space of time ...well done Adam. I heard that they were all ready and waiting to get out on track for each race ---well trained these lads are already!! I have tried to run second halves at most Newport meetings this year and will continue to do so and the 250 lads and under 15's will always be welcome to take part ----they all need track time and as many laps as possible along with help, guidance and encouragement and like Malcolm says even if we are still there at midnight bringing on young British talent it is worth it. Roll on round 4 on July 25th at Buxton !!
  18. To get back to the topic --- added to the list of riders are two young Swedes , Jonas Andersson (19) + Robert Henderson (21) and Edinburgh / Swindon's Ryan Fisher. Full line-up to follow asap.
  19. Good luck to the two Hornets , Shelby Rutherford and the new IOW track record holder Grant Tregoning at Redcar tonight. FEEL THE STING!!!
  20. He broke his scaphoid at Newport a short while back. He is due to have the plaster off this Friday and will be back in action asap. He was not contesting the Under 15 championships this year and is looking forward to August when he reaches the grand old age of 15 and is eligible to ride in the National League. He has been riding Academy matches and in second halves at various tracks.
  21. Newport Mavericks are looking to run Academy matches as much as possible and will hopefully be sending a side to Mildenhall on June 21st.
  22. I will unfortunately miss round 3 at Weymouth on Saturday as I am away on the northern tour with Newport at Workington --I wish all the boys all the best and hope that the way we have run the first two rounds will continue for round 3 without me there to get you lined up one race before you are due out!! current standings : 250cc : Jt 1st : Brendan Freemantle & Robert Lambert 34 pts 3rd : Nathan Stoneman 26 pts 4th : Reece Downes 24 pts 5th : Jack Cornes & Adam Portwood 22pts 7th : Tyler Govier 16 pts 8th : Jack Jones 15 pts 9th : Steven Archer 14 pts 10th : Daniel Sibson 9 pts 500 cc : 1st : Josh Dingle 34 pts 2nd : Kyle Howarth 30 pts 3rd : Darryl Ritchings 27 pts 4th : Daniel I'Anson 24 pts 5th : Tom Stokes 23 pts 6th : Ashley Morris 21 pts 7th : Jack Butler & Adam Kirby & Cameron Hoskins 17 pts Line-up at Weymouth : 250's : 15 Reece DOWNES 9 Daniel SIBSON 13 Nathan STONEMAN 2 Jack CORNES 3 Brandon FREEMANTLE 5 Robert LAMBERT 1 Adam PORTWOOD 7 Steven ARCHER 11 Jack JONES 500's : 10 Daniel I'ANSON 14 Cameron HOSKINS 6 Darryl RITCHINGS 8 Ashley MORRIS 17 Kyle HOWARTH 20 Jack BUTLER 16 Adam KIRBY 4 Josh DINGLE 19 Tom STOKES Both sections have semi-finals and finals this time. 23. No not at all. I have been waiting --and still am --for Allen Trump to sort things out for publishing it . We do need to update a chapter or two but all is ready --and has been for well over 2 years!! The wait will be worth it!!
  24. Will --been working on that today. Some confirmations held up as riders waiting to hear off their Polish clubs if they are needed that day as there is a full league programme scheduled. I hope to finalise things in next day or so. On another matter Will can you contact me about having a Newport v Cradley academy match. Thanks
